This is a weekend where no games will be played. I will just be reading Harry Potter. So, if you are not reading Harry Potter, which games will you be playing this weekend?

Well, I'm off to the beach and disconnected to the Internet for a few days. Endless Neverwinter Nights building, as usual. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, maybe. Just in case, I'm hauling along Icewind Dale 2 which I always wanted to finish.

Goin to comic con. Gonna meet Bruce Campbell, Jim Mafood (again), Derrick Hunter, J-Ro, Jackson Public and other awesome people.
Harry Potter here as well. When I'm not tearing through his Sixth Year, I'll be hitting up some Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and a tiny bit o' Warcraft.

I finally found a working snes emu for my xbox, so I've started a game of Final Fantasy 3. (This is also known as FF6, right? I've heard FF6 is the best, and I just want to make sure I'm actually playing the right one.)
Other than that, I'm playing that familiar title "Procrastinate As Long As Possible Before Writing The Research Paper Due Very Soon." It's got a helluva grind to it, and the leveling up can be slow and arduous, but ultimately I may reap the rewards.

Yup, best ever. Might be the best J-RPG ever made. Just to let you know, I think it's pretty much WWII turned into a J-RPG, and I think that's uber bad-ass.
As for me... Well, I've been playing a little Morrowind, pondering the possibility of playing Xenogears again... Might pick up Destroy All Humans for XBOX tomarrow, not sure. Other than that, I'm reading Stephen King's It.

I've heard nothing but bad things about FFIX. Although, most of the people that say these allegations also think FFX sucked. (I kinda do too). The excuse I've heard most often: "If it wasn't called a Final Fantasy game, it would be great."
What are the strong points of FFIX, and what are the weak points?

Like many, I won't be getting in much gaming. Most of my time will be spent reading Harry Potter, driving back and forth from my hometown, and going to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with some friends. Any free time in there will probably go to CoH.

The problem with R&C1 is that once you play the sequels and have a taste of strafe, you can never go back to the first one.

I suggest both sequels. They're great. And you reminded me that I need to pick up X-Men Legends soon, since it's all cheap now.

I think the fear is more that the store won't have ordered enough copies. Obviously, the bigger the store is, the less likely, but I'm sure there's some places where it's happened. Maybe.

Did the midnight line-up at a local independant bookstore for my copy of Harry Potter. Unfortunately I have to work this weekend so I won't get in much reading. I miss my old job where I could bring in books and while away the weekend shifts by reading.
Gamewise: Killer 7 on the Cube, Atelier Iris on the PS2, maybe a bit of WoW (though my office is still unbearably hot) and perhaps some Fire Emblem. I also picked up Katamari Damacy AGAIN as my brother has my copy and is many, many hours away. I figure I'll just donate it to him and buy a new copy and play it again. I can't wait for We Love Katamari!

Sorry, don't mean to seem like I'm trying to derail this topic, but I don't feel like starting a new thread over this.
I loved FFIX. It wasn't as realistic as FFVIII and the story was a lot lighter than the previous entries which is probably what people didn't like about it. For me it was very much a game that was a tip of the hat to those of us who'd been playing since the very first one. A lot of characters and such that harkened back to the earlier 2D style of the FF series.
I think that if you'd started with FFVII as your introduction to the Final Fantasy world(s), you could probably think that FFIX was kind of a let down. As someone who had snuck out to play the first FF on his friends NES way back in the day, it was great.
It had a very swashbuckling adventure feel to it as opposed to the overwrought drama of FFVI-VIII. It wasn't a terribly deep story and the characters weren't near as conflicted, but damn, it was a lot of fun.
FFX was very good too, but it is a lot more in the vein of FFVIII than the other Final Fantasies. By that I mean that it is very character driven as opposed to having a lot of adventure. Again, I loved it but I also loved FFVIII. Both FF's 8 & 10 are the only games, period, to make me cry during the ending. I still get the sniffles when I watch the endings for either game. However, I can definately see why people may not have liked either game, though the changes in FF8 take more time to get used to than the ones they did in FF10.
Ok. Back to the weekend gaming!

I'm going to go over to Jetherik's house and wait outside the door until he comes out to get the mail and then beat him about the head and shoulders with an old boot until he relinquishes his copy of Harry Potter.
Just as Amazon.com said they would in their E-mail, they delayed my copy of Harry Potter. So, that story we posted yesterday where they were saying, "No. No. Everyone will get them on time." was a lie.

OK, I loved FFX. My first RPG and First FF. Awesome stuff. I havent played a FF I didnt like (Im getting into FF:TA). My order went like this. FFX, 7, 8, 4 X-2, 6, and I'm working on 9. IX isn't a bad game, I'm reallying enjoying it. However, I dont like the element of once you hit point X (won't say for spoiler purposes), you may miss things in the game. Same thing in 8. After 9 I may go to 5 (hear its 'ok') or I may get my DS on with a few new games. It depends on the cash flow.
FFX to me had a great story, I really enjoyed it, and just thinking about it makes me want to play it again. FF8 is a game I believe I would enjoy more a 2nd time. I was following a guide and it said to get 30 screws, I spent so much time gather items (got 30 pipes too) that I took a break. And then this one area I wasted time getting items also. Bah.
The FF series is one of my all time favorites, right up there with MGS.
Well...I must do chores so I can make an in game meeting/training session in my clan.
I stopped reading Harry Potter at 4.

Sorry, don't mean to seem like I'm trying to derail this topic, but I don't feel like starting a new thread over this.
Personally, I loved FF9. It was fun, light-hearted and most importantly; it wasn't the boring angst-filled tromp that FF8 was. It harkened back to the old days of Final Fantasy...and it was a hoot. It was a new high-point in the series for me, especially after the huge letdown 8 turned out to be. 6 and 7 will still be my favorites, but 9 isn't far behind.
FF10, however, was horrid.
I hated every minute of it.
It was about as linear as you could possibly get, with only a few points at which you could freely explore. The plot was weak and I loathed all of the characters. Each and every single one of them. If it hadn't been called a Final Fantasy game, I doubt anybody would have even bothered with it; the only reason people bought into it in the first place was because of the "Final Fantasy" moniker...without it, the game would have gotten raked over the coals.
As for my reading...
I'll be perusing the various Werewolf: The Forsaken books. I have a game to run, after all!
Besides, I'm not much of a Potter fan...

You should try working in a state or county prison. I've got friends who work for county here in Arizona and the pay is really good. If you get on the graveyard shift then mostly what you do is spend the night watching inmates sleep.

Ok, I just got back from seeing the Fantastic Four and for all the whining and complaining from various comic book readers I don't see the big deal. It wasn't true to the comic but what Marvel adapation has been? Really. Spider-Man, Blade, X-Men, Daredevil, Punisher and Hulk weren't. I didn't see Elektra, so I can only imagine that was. Each had their flaws and their strengths as did F.F. I thought they did a good job with the movie. If you read any of the F.F. from the mid 70s, this fit right in with those Silver Age books/stories.
So throw your stones, I dug it. Yeah I suck. Whatever. I got the biggest shit eating grin on my face and felt like I was 8 years old again reading comic books with a flashlight under my blanket until 2 in the morning when the Torch yelled "Flame On!" Let alone anytime the Thing and the Torch interacted.
The movie was a lot of fun.

I'm a comic reader and loved it. Personally, I think all the Marvel adaptations have been fairly close to the books except for small changes. And most of the changes are just because, well, they're movies, not comics; some stuff just doesn't translate well. I have high hopes for the FF sequel -- especially hopes that they'll make Doc Doom better.

I agree... I described it as "clunky." Which I guess makes sence for a big metal mask, but still, it didn't have the same appeal as the design in the comics. But that's another one of those things that just doesn't translate well, honestly.
