Who needs a official community discussion area where people can go to laboriously heap praise upon your products and services? Evidently, not Nintendo. They've done away with their forums while they work on an overhaul of the official Nintendo.com site, and there appears to be no guarantee they will return. But don't worry, Nintendo's got you covered (http://forums.nintendo.com/):

For more than four years, these NSider Forums have fostered engaging, robust debates, a strong community and friendships. While their future remains uncertain, in the interim we invite our fans to build on the spirit of community by starting their own Nintendo discussion sites.

Aren't there already enough half-baked Nintendo fan sites out there as it is?

You know, for a company that does so many smart things, they make some strange decisions, too.

That makes no sense. Why would the almost intentionally splinter the online community like that? Is it really that hard for them to maintain their forums?

GameFAQs and NeoGaf are going to get flooded.

The mods are VERY lax on there if anything they need better mods. The word filter is pretty god damn gay too.

The word filter is pretty god damn gay too.The word filter prefers sex with male word filters? That's interesting...

Meh, I've never felt Nintendo had the greatest community as a whole. Certain games definitely stood out, but in general the huge Nintendo fans were always annoying to me.

I know! I mean really, we know they're all under the age of 15 anyway. They probably can't get on the computers in their school libraries. ;)

Well, we all know that casual gamers don't use forums.

But yeah, I used to be a member, back when I was a complete nintendo fanboy. One of my friends came to me today complaining about this.

...back when I was a complete nintendo fanboy...

So you aren't one anymore? Cause we at the NDF don't take treason lightly...

meh. official discussion boards are a complete waste anyway.

actual discussions are better suited to fan boards and actual communication is done best anywhere other than a forum.

This is awful news. The Nintendo forums were a fucking internet cesspit.

Unfortunately, it's denizens are now going to be headed elsewhere. Here doesn't appear on the search results but avforums does. gulp.

As long as Gamefaqs doesn't shut down, with only a message saying to migrate to Evil Avatar, I'm good.
*shudder*

Just imagine. First the Nintendo forums go down, then they all flood to GameFAQs... Then GameFAQs goes down. And the only place left to go is everywhere else.

When the asstard apacolypse rains down, I'd be perfectly happy to keep myself an orange if it's the only way to post. Needing to pay tends to deter the hellspawn.

Let us have a moment of silence for the Nintendo forums, and I ask that everyone pray diligently for the forums that will become the eventual new home of these errant vagabonds.

May God have mercy on their souls.

Ahh...why the long faces everybody??? It's a stupid move and if they can't see that...oh well we'll just move somewhere else.

Maybe they're working on new forums. They did say they were serious about online. For all we know they could be implementing a friend code system into their website.

For all we know they could be implementing a friend code system into their website.

That would be the first thing they've done involving Friend Codes that I'd actually have to give them a 'Decent job' nod about, instead of just ignore it all together because everyone else is already complaining, and I'll just shrug and play stuff with friends anyway. :p

Nintendo moves to the beat of a different drummer.

Can't really fault them for it. Their fans are rabid, their stock is sky-high, and they make money hand over fist.

So the problem is...what?

I will say this about the NSider forums, they were actually quite gay. My biggest gripe was that they had tiers of forum sections that could only be replied to if you had a certain ranking, and ranking was based on post counts...

If you go into the lowest of the low tiers, they're dominated with 12 year old Nintendo fans having conversations not unlike the one above. It's hard to engage in meaningful dialog when the very content of the threads presents such an alarming amount of stupidity that you can't help but feel infected by it.
