Evil Avatar member Xijar snagged his limited edition Halo 3 Xbox 360 this weekend.

He was kind enough to post the unboxing of it in our Halo 3 forums (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34945#982189).

Dang...I really wish this came with a 120GB drive. I'd be all over it.

Yup, the 20GB hard drive pretty much seals the deal on me considering grabbing one of these.

It's all about choice. Yes, it sucks not having a 120 GB HDD in this edition of the 360, but this is marketed towards people who don't have a 360 yet and are already fans of the Halo series.

This is for people who may have an original Xbox and a copy of Halo 1 or 2 and may want to make the jump towards a 360.

What about the 360 owner who is a Halo fan? That's like, a bajillion people. What about all of them? Seems like a kick in the nuts to me.

I'm a big Halo fan, but I have to admit I actually prefer the white model. Ultimately, the guts are what counts, however, and this one's are the same so it ain't worth it unless you're a really big fan of Halo or green.

Question: Does the Xbox 360 hook up to your computer? I am moving shortly and will not be able to build myself a new entertainment center when I first arrive. I would like to be able to just plug it into my computer, play it online with my monitor and speakers. Is this possible?

You can hook it into your monitor, and plug the audio outs into the inputs on your PC. But it does not "hook into".

So... why is the Halo version more expensive than the Premium?

The lead in the green paint from China?

It comes with a Play and Charge Kit with rechargeable battery, download codes for gamerpics/theme that you can't buy normally, HDMI, and the rest of the price simply comes down to the fact that it's Halo.

Personally, 20 Gb has been plenty for me. I delete demos and movies after I've watched them, though.

I really like the color scheme of the system for some reason. I'd buy a controller in that color if it was available.

Have to agree totally. After you've played a demo, you've decided you're either going to buy it or not so you can delete it. I've got a couple showpiece demos, but that's it aside from a few rotating recent demos. I don't fill it up with music, pictures, or videos (TVersity makes that entirely unnecessary) and I don't buy movies or shows through Marketplace because that crap is all overpriced. Unless Arcade titles start busting the 250MB cap and the system is deluged with such titles, 20 gigs is just right for me.

That has still got to be the ugliest color I've ever seen a console in (including the LE Simpson's 360).

I would rather pay +$100 less and get a 20gig version.
Then go out and get a USB +200gig HD for $100 on my own for the XBox360.
This to me is a good idea.

Or a voucher for Halo 3. Now THAT would have been a sweet little deal. A Halo 3 edition without Halo 3? Not so much.

And do you need HDMI to do 1080p, or can you get it over component? I ask this all the time and I never get a definitive answer.

It is a touchy subject. I am not sure whether 1080p is possible through the 360's component. I know component has the ability to support 1080p in general. Its not really something to worry about because almost all games are programmed in 1080i.

I'm only curious because I have a 1080p television and would like to get the full functionality out of it. Blue Dragon is 1080p I hear, as is Virtual Tennis 3 (I own both). I was thinking about trading in my 360 towards the purchase of an Elite, but I honestly don't know if I'd be able to tell the difference. And trading in a console just to buy the same console with a goddamn HDMI port is damn foolish.

Yes the 360 does 1080p over component. The problem is, most TVs do not support 1080p over component.

Well, that helps. Thanks. Now just to find out if mine does. I doubt that information is readily available in the manual. Will have to visit the official thread on AVS to find out from others.

Thanks, ba!

So, what is the difference between this one, and the one priced at $349?

Is it only the color? As you can now get a guaranteed $349 model with HDMI from BB and a few other retailers.

So it's basically a crap bundle.
It needed a wireless headset and a 120gb hdd to justify the price.

And whoever said they'd rather buy a USB drive: you do know that a USB drive isn't an alternative, right? The 360 won't put downloadable content or saves on them - which is the whole point of getting the 120gb HDD. For pic, song and movie storage, sane people just stream it over their home network.

What TV? My Sharp AQUOS does 1080p over component.

Wish my replacement 360 had come with HDMI though. :(

be careful. xbox dosen't do 1080p movies over component because of copy protection restrictions. i found this out on xbox.com somewhere comaring the elite vs. the premium. that's why i took my old one back and bought a elite. it does do 1080p over component in games so i guess game companies care less about piracy.....:)

It seems MS is aiming the special edition at the "original Xbox" owner who is a hardcore Halo player.

They can tell from the Xbox live stats that this monomaniac category of player exists in high numbers. Its clearly logical to go after these Halo Fanatics and add them to the growing Army of 360 owners.

If this works, expect NPD sales figures for the month of September to reveal the bloody murder of the PS3 [at least in the eyes of North American developers].

Samsung LNT4665F I think. I might be missing a digit.

It says it's outputting at 1080p, but I don't know how accurate that is. I'm pretty sure when I hit the info button it always says that, even when I'm watching non-HD programming.

I'll have to test that out tonight. I have the 360 set at 1080p. Hell, I wouldn't know anyway since I never owned a 720p television. I tried setting the 360 to 720p and couldn't tell any difference-- in the dashboard, anyway. And I don't sit very far away from the tv, maybe 5 feet perhaps.

If it's already outputting at 1080p, awesome. I just wasn't completely sure. The picture is beautiful, regardless.

I totally lucked out on that one. The first boxed unit BB offered me under my replacement plan, which got as far as the counter at customer service, looked like it had been open. I requested another one and got the HDMI.

And I use a $200 television from the stone age...
