The Hollywood Reporter has posted an article (http://www.thehollywoodreporter.com/thr/columns/video_games_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000979639) talking with LucasArts President Jim Ward, talking about releasing new games based on Star Wars without an upcoming movie to back up the games. In the Q&A, Ward also talks about the two upcoming Star Wars TV shows and the planned Star Wars animated movie.

Ward laid out the game plan for the company's near-term strategy, which involves taking advantage of the "Star Wars" brand, which will "live and breathe in entirely new media." Meaning that Lucas is in development with a live-action TV spin-off that takes place between "Star Wars" Episodes III and IV. And there will be animated feature films as well as a TV cartoon show -- 30-minute 3-D episodes based on the Cartoon Network's current "Clone Wars" shorts -- necessitating the establishment of a new animation division in Singapore. Production is expected to begin in about a year.

But Ward believes that the brand will be mainly propelled by interactive gaming, which "holds the key to driving the 'Star Wars' brand forward."Interactive gaming? Like a Star Wars MMORPG?

Can we please get Bioware on a Knights of the Old Republic III? Thanks.

No, no...I'd rather see a new iteration of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, thanks.

"propelled by interactive gaming"

Does that mean that they will continue to poop out games with no redeeming qualities other than the Star Wars name on the box?

XvT on Xbox Live. It just couldn't get any better than that.

'Red Three, can you see Red Five?'
'I can't shake him!'
'Hang on, I'm on it.'
'Turn to point oh-five and we'll cover you.'

Please, what true fan would want an X-wing game on a freaking gamepad. Tell you what, if they release a real honest to god Joystick for the x-box, then it'll be good. Otherwise, screw it.

God, I miss games that used real Joysticks.

I wish Lucas would reply to my e-mails about having Ewok suicide bombers in the next game.

Lucas ignores my emails about viagra without a perscription and hot nude girls live, and even my offers to sell him pills to make his manhood larger, so it's not just you he's ignoring, that heartless man.

That would be cool for a Republic Commando sequel! Like snarks, but cuter.

Go play Crimson Skies. There's also a game coming out this Christmas called Blazing Angels that looks freakin' amazing, and feels really, really good. I played it at E3.

Of course, I used to play XvT with a standard, cheapo 2-button joystick, so an Xbox controller would be an upgrade.

Heh. Part of me wishes they'd use the Steel Battallion controller.

About sixty percent of the Metal Gear Solid series.

I'd take a keyboard and my old 2 button Logitech Wingman over a gamepad for a flight sim/space combat game every day of the week. Far better control, feel, play design, etc. I have played Crimson Skies on the X-box, and frankly, the PC version with a joystick is a million times better and then some. I was very unimpressed with it.

Crimson Skies proves that all preconceptions about control and needed realism are false. A great game breaks the mold.

But its an arcade game and not a sim. Doesn't relate in the least.

A true fan that wants voice communication, with every player having the same setup, so that the best pilot is the one with the most skills, not the one that buys most ludicrous joystick.

Man, I want this game. X-Wing Online. Give it to me, you hear me LEC? It's mine!!!

I bought a Joystick, then returned it cause there are like no good games that use one. I aint a fan of flight sims or train sims or anything else retarded, I want killer dogfights like back in Wing COmmander/X-wing fighter days. Mechwarrior was the last game I used a Joystick for if I recal, I quit playing that series cause my guns would overheat before I could even paint a plasma burn on the enemy. Hence why I dont like sims, ya my fusion core overheating again....should I shut down my mech and get out and start busting my knuckles on the thermal shielding?

I can't handle using a real joystick, my hands are not used to them.

I can do the little fighting game nubs, but those giant analog beasts... nope, just give me a finger nub and 14 face buttons and an extra analog stick for whatever and I am good to go.

Ok... I want a Star Wars Bounty Hunter game that is good, like Mercenaries... but bigger, and with frickin lasers!

I hope they are working on Jedi Knight 4, that game still has a large community

Ouch. The Cutscenes are awesome. I definently am in the mintority for loving the metal gear stories. MGS is one of my all time favortie series.

And hey, the cutscenes are intereactive...you can zoom in, and in 3 sometimes hit r1 :P

Feh, I'm as good with a Keyboard and a 2 button stick as anyone with a a full stick and throttle setup. When you're good, its not about the stick you use, its about your skills and knowledge of what you're flying and what you're flying against.

As for voice communication, I've been using voice communication over my PC for 5 years now, with everything from Counter Strike, to City of Heroes, to X-Wing Alliance. Wow, look at that, an X-Wing game I've already used Voice Communication for. Gee, who'd a thunk it. :D

Metal Gear's stories are totally ludicrous and nonsensical, but they have that old school bad translation charm.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I think they should close down Lucasarts. It sounds like all they have on hand now is the marketing department. They are staining what was one a GREAT gaming company. I used to buy the Lucasfilm Games stuff on sight.

The majority of my PC collection is lucasarts.

Give me more Jedi Knight!

I think Jedi Knight on the source engine would be awesome. If you've played 3, you know that its got that "im standing on flat plane that is you head. Can you imagine force pushing someone, and seeing their arms flail about. And gripping someone, then force pushing them in the air, their body tenting. Wow

Revolver Ocelot for God's sake? REVOLVER OCELOT? BIG BOSS?

Put the intro "song" for Snake Eater on for a non gamer sometime...it's funny and impossible to take seriously.

Or hell, let a non gamer listen to the banal conversations that last about 30 minutes when you go to save a game.

Don't get me wrong, I buy all the Metal Gear games...but they are enjoyable because they are so wacky, bad translation funny.

Revolver Ocelot for God's sake? REVOLVER OCELOT? BIG BOSS?

I think they're both great characters. Silly names? Definitely. But still great characters.

Put the intro "song" for Snake Eater on for a non gamer sometime...it's funny and impossible to take seriously.

The intro music for Snake Eater was meant to be a James Bond parody. Any idiot listening to it (as you so aptly pointed out) can tell that. It isn't meant to be taken seriously.

Or hell, let a non gamer listen to the banal conversations that last about 30 minutes when you go to save a game.

Again, this is all purposeful stuff. It may have been somewhat serious in the first game, but by the second it was definitely parody. Maybe I'm just taking it for granted that some people can tell what parts of the MGS series are definitely meant to be funny and what are meant to be serious. Either way, I think there are serious parts deeper into the games that make them steps above most games in terms of story-telling.
