Electronic Arts has posted a brief update (http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/editorial.jsp?src=update_071405) on the status of the upcoming Battlefield 2 patch file.
GameSpy Login Issues
It has been brought to our attention that some users may be experiencing login problems when trying to log into GameSpy through the BF2 in-game browser. GameSpy is in the process of hunting down the problem to get it fixed they have determined that the issue is related to web sites tracking BF2 stats, the stats tracking feed may be turned off temporarily in order to speed up this process. However, it will be turned back on after this issue has been resolved.
HOTFIX Candidate Now Being Tested!
Listen up soldiers, this update is to inform you that EA and DICE have a HOTFIX candidate for Battlefield 2 v1.01 in testing now. What does this mean? It means the fix for the memory leak found in v1.01 is being tested and will soon be available. While we're unable to specify an exact release date, rest assured, it's not far off and we will keep you updated through this web space.

Well, you are looking at it wrong, the downgrade was because the patch caused issues. You didn't think they would never fix those issues, did you?

I never downgraded and have been playing on 1.1 servers since the patch was released. I've had no issues that weren't there before.

Same for me. No issues because of the patch.
The only issue with staying at 1.01 is that 1.01 servers require occasional reboots due to the memory leak. I've found that a lot of the Trinity server admins seem to be on top of their reboots.
Other than that, the 1.01 patch has been much more stable for me on the client side.

This is getting entertaining. Is it me, or does it look like it might take longer to create the hotfix for the patch than it did to create the patch?

Other than the server-side memory leak, the patch was fine. I don't know why people persist in telling everybody the patch worked fine on their system when they're not even running servers.
Maybe they could fix some actual game issues such as:
1.It takes about 65% of BOTH teams to kick someone. This is so mind-bogglingly annoying I can't even say. I can't imagine this would be hard to fix.
2.I hate looking at a helicopter or tank dead on and not knowing what team it's on. This also couldn't be too hard to fix.
3.I'd like to know the name of the person/people I'm riding with in a tank or other vehicle. Might require a little change in the UI.
4.It's way too easy to teamkill someone.
5.If the person decides not to punish you for a teamkill, it shouldn't effect your stats or your ranking on that server.
6.In commander mode you should be able to force players to join SOME squad. Either that or he should be able to give orders to unasigned people in a sqad.

So they are actually testing it this time? That's a step up. Lets see if EA can join everyone else in the new millenium and add pasting into the game.

#1 point is very valid and I've felt the pains of that MANY TIMES, also it takes a retardedly high amount of ppl for mutiny, and when someone gets 8/10 votes they STILL DONT GET IT THAT WE HATE YOUR GUTS AND STOP COMMING kthx.
#2 well I dunno, thats war? *shrugs*
#3 very valid also, it'd be really nice to know if the kills you see have anything to do with the person in the vechical with you, it'd be important for tactics

#5 addendum ALSO your deaths from a fucktard team mate shouldn't count as a death on the server either. And also agreement with your point, not much matter if they forgive you or not in that case.

Now if only EA saw all these points and used their brains to incorperate the changes.

Good points.
1) definitely retarded. can't believe this made it in. why would the other team really care about someone causing problems on your team?
3) god yes. this was in bf1942 for godsakes! If you tried to switch to a position already taken, it would show you the names of the people in the vehicle. I hate not knowing who the hell I'm riding with.
4) yeah, should be like 50% teamkill damage. I dunno, I don't mind too much EXCEPT the goddamn "vehicle moving at 1 mph brushes by you, you die" thing.

Because some of the initial literature on the patch mentioned that it affected both, that's why. Also, because many game players are non-technical and just heard that 1.01 broke things, which is technically true.

Agreed, they should just add that pop-up list of players when you try and pick an occupied seat (like 1942 and BFV). I do like how the vehicle just has the driver's name +number or passengers, instead of the cluster-fuck list of overlapping names of every occupant.

Just what we need, some fascist smacktard putting people in whatever squad he sees fit. The potential for abuse is mind-boggling. I like your second suggestion- just add the ability to message all players as a commander.

I've heard a couple people say that, but I can use filters and refresh the browser just fine. Have done so since the patch was released, and the server browser actually works a little faster, as advertised. I guess it varies from computer to computer .

I installed the 1.01 patch the day it came out. Retail version relatively fine for me. HOWEVER after I installed the patch my pings, which used to be in the 30s, shot to 400s and if I tried to refresh the broswer all Servers would dissapear until restarted. So the patch was not fine for some poeple, but for others it was okay. Either way if was a shitty patch if it was good for some and left others hanging.

Your list goes blank and the server is not found.
clear out the box, and hit enter to try and get your list back. Nothing.
Click Update or Refresh. Nothing happens.
I have to exit out of the game and come back in to get the server list working again.

I don't mind this. It adds a bit of skill to the game if it benifits you to know what the opposing teams vehicles look like.

Wow you must be a pilot. Since I routinely jack the other teams vehicles , look is not enough. And Blue Force Tracker on my map insert does not show me enough. I am a pretty good ManPAD and vehchle AA player. And it annoys me that I have to damage my owns teams helos to find out if they are Friend or Foe.
Let's face it there are some maps (the Dam) where Helo gunships rack up absurd kills. A good gunship pilots drops back for the AA vehicle spawn on a timer and rockets it.

Oh and mines and claymores in BF2. We got BFT, why don't we have smart mines? IF not no TK penalty for idiots who jump in vehicles and drive straight over your mines. At "strike on Karkland? " those mines are mandatory to keep the vehicle form running into you backfield on that large map version.

I can do this with no problem. My list does not go blank, and I get a list of servers that match the name I entered. I do this every day to play on the Trinity servers, by typing "Trinity" into the server name field.
If I clear the list and hit enter, it re-populates the entire list.
I can only suggest uninstalling and reinstalling, which I agree, sucks. I just haven't seen this error reproduced.

The browser update/refresh worked fine for me in the patched version, even better than release. I've read that it locked up other people's sessions, but I did not experience that myself.

You can't go by sillouettes, though, not if you want to avoid teamkills.
If there is a cobra available on the map, I'm likely to be found inside it, regardless of which side I am playing. I usually try to let my side know that I stole it, so they will at least think before shooting at cobras, but most of them don't read text spam anyways and only my squadmates can hear my voice warning.
I like all the attack copters, but the cobra feels the most nimble. Often, my team will have 4 or 5 idiots teamkilling to get our copter, while the other side might not even be using theirs, making theft a good option.
Additionally, on maps where the copter spawns are contested, you get whatever spawned last on the platform, which won't necessarily be the vehicle belonging to your side. This happens often on oilfields, wetlands and dalian plant.

I find that if you just shoot near the enemy, the tag will show up more readily. Like if I see a soldier or vehicle and am unsure, I'll pop a shot off "across the bow" or whatever, and the tag comes up.

I got a solution to the mines, make them show up on the minimap. That way vehicle drivers can still tell were friendly mines are. They could be little skull&crossbones symbols.

I got a solution to the mines, make them show up on the minimap. That way vehicle drivers can still tell were friendly mines are. They could be little skull&crossbones symbols.
If they can't see them right in front of them while driving, what makes you think they'll see them on the minimap? You could have a monkey that sits next to the guy and throws shit at him whenever he is about to run over a friendly mine.. There would still be people running over friendly mines. These people are commonly referred to as "idiots", or "retards", and are prevalent in any online activity involving more than 3-4 people.
The only solution is to a) disallow them to count as teamkills, or b) make the mines 'smart'. Either solution will be exploited, of course, just pick whatever ends up being the lesser evil---which is probably how they picked the current implementation.

Why do publishers and developers insist on starting off their news quotes with role playing style talk? It's childish, retarded and in all forms and ways utterly pathetic. I HATE it. It makes it sounds like they are 12yr old Counter Strike fudge packers. Pardon my French. Pardon my racial slur too while you're at it.
Anyways... I think it's stupid.
That being said, I haven't had any issues with Patch 1.1 that weren't there before. This game needs a HELL of a lot more than a hotfix. This game runs like aboslute CRAP for at least 2 minutes on every damn map it loads... and I have a freaking awesome computer that SCREAMS on everything else (e.g. Farcry in 1600x1280 8xAA runs at a solid 60FPS, BF2 should run like greased lightning). Someone doesn't know how to code worth crap at DICE or something.... Because this game is buggier than it ever should have been.

I play engineer alot, so I both TK with mines and try to avoid other's mines. A big problem for me is that C4, Mines, and Claymores all have the same icon. Today I got myself TKed cause I thought that mine was C4 when it was in the grass and ran over it. DOH!
