Halo 3 in the Wild

According to our own Official Halo 3 Countdown Thread (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34317&page=16), there have been a few spottings of the game in the wild.

First up is a sealed package (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=981411&postcount=645) of the collector's edition. Second, a nice screen of the game on an SD TV (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=982235&postcount=665). And finally there are two other shots of someone apparently with a copy (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=980975&postcount=638) and showing it off (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=980158&postcount=628).

It's pretty inevitable with a title like this that leaks will occur. I know Microsoft is doing everything they can to prevent spoilers, etc from happening but I think it's probably too late. Anyone looking forward to the game might want to be careful of certain Halo 3 threads that will contain spoilers. I know our man Zeal will do his best to keep our official one spoiler free.

Well it's not like Halo 2 wasn't leaked. A lot early even, and it was the far superior french version, featuring the Master Chef, with his mad cocking skillz.

This is the ONE game I don't want spoiled for me. I've read the spoilers for Bioshock without playing it, and for other games, and 99% of the time actively do so without caring, but this one? I want this one to be a true first-time run-through when I play it.

I haven't been this excited for a game in a few years, actually. I've been in a real funk with gaming (can't finish a damn thing), and if Halo 3 doesn't cure that, I need a new hobby. I think it will cure me of my gaming lethargy, however! :)

One big game that wasn't leaked was Half-Life 2 (not counting the very unfinished source leak the previous year). All the discs were encrypted and you had to wait until the official launch to go online and unlock the disc (which was a bitch if you weren't already registered with Steam). I wonder if that sort of thing will be more common in the future to prevent early leaks?

MY CC was moving boxes around before close Friday night, and I grabbed a copy out of an open box. I started to walk up to the counter and the guy said something to me. Another associate said, "no, it's okay" and I paid for my copy of the regular edition and left. I wanted so bad to come on here yesterday and gloat but I had a goddamn family function.

Needless to say, I stayed up all night Friday and last night and beat it. After a fucking insane final battle (large epic scale battle...reminded me of the battles in Braveheart in terms of chaos) Master Chief is mortally wounded in the end and when they remove his helmet the Spartan underneath is Ben Affleck.

I threw my controller across the room and screamed in agony. Fucking Ben Affleck ruins everything.

You wouldn't be banned. It's not your fault the retailer sold it to you--you paid your cash and you are playing your purchase. You have nothing to fear. If I was banned, I'd fucking boycott Microsoft forever. That would be some very wrong shit right there.

I'm most curious to see if the hype machine MS has running right now, translates into record breaking sales for Halo 3. I know it's going to drop big, but more is expected from Halo 3. MS is counting on it to redefine what blockbuster means.

I doubt any major retailers are going to fuck this one up. MS would be all over their ass. Gamestop employees get fired on the spot if they so much as tamper with the tape holding the box closed.

Nope, Halo 3 is street dated, Bioshock had NOTHING on the box. And every Toys R Us should have Halo 3 by now, so if they were going to leak it, it would have been as soon as they got it.

Last time around, Meijers was the place that broke street, but I have yet to hear of them doing so again.

Really? I'm more worried about Mass Effect spoilers. While I don't want anyone ruining it for me, I'm looking forward to just playing Halo 3.

I just called my local game store and they told me they'll probably have it in stock and will be selling it this coming thursday or friday (the 20th or 21st). If they have it in stock that early I'll probably end up buying it.

Actually, that's not true. This store sold Bioshock and Metroid 3 to 4 days ahead of the launch date. It's a chinese-owned independent store that gets its games from an independent supplier. What they do is they charge 5 dollars extra for a game in exchange for selling it before the release date, and there's no possibility of getting officially cut off from the supplier because their supplier is already working under the table anyway.

If I get the game early I'll be sure to post some images for "teh gloating".

But not being able to talk about the game until later is horrible. I kept shouting at people to finish Bioshock to talk to them about it.

I think I can wait, so I can do the game co-op on Live.

if they do indeed sell the game early I'll be sure to let our NYC EvAv forum members know. I actually went by the location today to speak with someone and while the owner wasn't in one of her assistants told me to check in this coming weekend. Based on what they told me and my past experiences with their willingness to break street date chances are good it'll be available at this location at least one to two days early.

I wonder how much I could get on ebay for a pre-launch copy...
