According to CNN Money, both Walmart.com and Amazon.com have mistakenly sent out E-mails (http://money.cnn.com/2005/07/14/technology/walmart_amazon_email.reut/index.htm?section=cnn_tech) to customers who pre-ordered the new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, letting them know that their book would not arrive on time.

Customers who preordered the eagerly anticipated sixth installment of the "Harry Potter" saga on Amazon.com and walmart.com were in for a shock this week when the retailers mistakenly e-mailed them to say their books might arrive later than expected.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is slated for release early on Saturday, and both Web sites had promised anxious customers that their books would arrive that day. The U.S. publisher of J.K. Rowling's book said some 10.8 million copies were printed.I got one of these E-mails myself, and when I checked the Amazon.com website, it still says that my copy is due on the 19th instead of the 16th.

Uh, does the text in the book evaporate or something if you don't get it the day it is released?

Heh, I didn't even bother to pre-order since I saw the ad for my local Grocery store, Ralphs, had it for the same price as Amazon and would be available at midnight (they're open 24 hours anyways). I will be picking it up on Saturday morning before I head into work.

The spoiler going around the internet about "you know who" killing "you guessed it" is a fake I heard.

BUT WHAT IF IT'S NOT? WAHT IF I HAVE BEEN SPOILED? F***ERS!

This is outrageous...and I don't even read these books.

I hope so, I wanted to cry after I accidently read it. :(

EDIT: Not crying because I"m that emotionally attatched to the characters, cry because I wanted to find out myself. >.>

see that's why things are better in Canada where in Vancouver they just sold 7 copies ahead of time.

I here that Saruman is the Half Blood Prince, and Gandalf will be the next Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.

How about a poll for the identity of the half-blood prince? Certainly Hagrid is a possibility, or perhaps Viktor Krum. Anyone else care to share their guesses?

Picked up the last book at Costco for $15.69 on release day. Will probably do the same this time :)

With as popular as the series is, I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a place where no one reads it. (Not to mention that's stupid. But I'm pretty sure you knew that, since it was a pretty troll-y post).

OMFG! DON'T SPOIL IT FOR ME! GOD.

The comic shop I work at is open till 1 tonight to sell it. I'll be hanging out there and will pick up a copy and probably read a lot of it tonight.

After amazon shipped my bf2 preorder 2 days AFTER the release date I won't be ordering any more preorders from them (and they only shipped it then because I complained, a coworker didn't get his until a week later).

Ummm . . . Fry's has the book for $13.99 available at 9:00AM, Saturday morning. (Not that I work for Fry's or endorse them; just wanted to save some EvAver some hard earn money.) :)

I hear this one is basically just aimed at slash fan fic writers. Harry and Ron, and all i can say is that it's gonna be magical.

Well, I pre-ordered with Amazon, I didn't get the fake "delayed shipment" email discussed by the OP, but I did get an amazon email that assured me my copy will arrive tomorrow before 7PM PST. I can't wait!! I just re-read book 5 last weekend and I'm really amped for the 6th one. I'll be staying near the doorbell until it arrives tomorrow, keeping busy with Vampire: Bloodlines.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

It is a damn book, barring alien invasion it will be around til the end of time.

Gawd, why did the series have to turn reading books into a cultural craze like going to a Star Wars movie...

Given the fact that most people read very slowly...connect the dots, this is just idiocy.

Fuck Potter. :D

I actually cancelled my order on Amazon.ca as they couldn't get it delivered to me on time. I went and paid off the book at a local independant bookstore and feel much better about supporting them than Chapters. I'd have just waited until whenever Amazon was going to deliver my copy except then I wouldn't be able to go to the party at the bookstore :)

That, and I just finished reading another book and didn't want to start reading something else that I'd cast off once Harry arrived.

The surprise ending is a slash fan fiction from a crazed female potter fan that has never heard of the term 'pedophile' - or thinks that it doesn't apply to women.

I might be going against the flow here, but not necessarily against the crowd. It's great most of you are excited about this. Anything that can get kids (and adults) reading again is okay by me. However, I just picked up the first book two weeks ago and I just didn't get what all the fuss was about.

It didn't do anything for me. (Might be the first time I don't follow a popular culture).

Agent: Honestly, I think I'd feel the same way if I picked up the first or second or even third books today. Luckily (or at least I consider myself lucky), I read them when I was in junior high. The books really do grow with the characters though. I think starting with the fourth book they become a lot more intriguing. The jury's out on this new one, but the fifth definitely sold me on the series as a whole.

So I guess I'm saying you should maybe try to stick it out to the fourth book at least and see what you think then. But if not, no big deal. Heh.

Don't be too alarmed, agent. The truth of the matter is that the books are written and targetted at a grade school level. I would like to propose the theory that a large majority of adults that eat these books up are actually doing so because they fall into that target.

I say this while realizing a lot of intelligent people, like some of the people here, also read them. Like I said, it is just a theory...in progress.

But, regardless of that, the technical aspects of the books aren't impressive in the least.

I do read the Potter books, and I still think I'm fairly intelligent... but I also believe you might be on to something there, really.
