Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/14/ratchet-and-clank-demo-now-at-gamestop/) is reporting that Gamestop has Blu-Ray versions of the Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction demo available for those that pre-order the game. The demo is apparently the same one that will hit the PSN in a few weeks, though it is based on an earlier build of the title.

damnit......do I want to pay $5 for a demo that will appear on psn in a few weeks? I don't even normally like to set foot in Gamestop anymore.

Demos as preorder bonuses is an incredibly stupid concept. The idea of a demo is to sell you on the game, and those who have preordered are already sold. In fact, they're theirs to lose. I preordered Thousand Arms, which came with a demo as the preorder bonus, and I didn't like it, so I cancelled the preorder.
It's all irrelevant with PSN and XBL anyway.

Yeah I got one yesterday. I was shooting the breeze with the clerk then he say "Hey want a free demo?" "Sure" I say. First rule in life, never pass up anything free.

You're not paying $5 for the demo. You're simply pre-ordering the game--putting $5 towards the purchase price of the game. The demo is free. If you're not going to get the game, then simply waiting for the demo on PSN is the way to go. It's still free.

Or it's incentive to get fence sitters in the store to pre-order the game. Anyway, if you're going to purchase from Gamestop, it certainly doesn't hurt go in and plunk down $5 to get a free demo a few weeks before it hits PSN.
Regardless, I've come to terms with the necessary evil that is EB/Gamestop. I don't enjoy the experience, but it's the best way I can get the big games I want on day one.

How come the demo isn't on the in-store demo disc... for you know, people to play in the store?
Neither MS or Sony have yet to update their instore kiosks since Forza 2 came out. and the Sony disc is terrible, it's all launch shit, nothing remotely new.

After the cavalcade of mediocrity that the so-called 'must haves' for the PS3 have turned out to be, I think I'll be waiting for the demo, without paying for it, thank you very much.

That must be an American thing. In Canada we change our discs on a monthly basis. Of course, it's all a moot point here because our in-store 360 eats discs and our PS3 demo is locked and can't play regular games. The Wii seems to be the only thing that isn't A) destroying games or B) incapable of playing them.
That being said, I'd play the demo disc if I got it [I find the PS3 downloads demos ridiculously slow], but they haven't sent them to us at all :(

I went to 2 gamestops today and neither had the demo but I preordered the game anyway and will get the demo when they get it in.

I was kind of disappointed in the demo at PAX. The game itself was fine, there was just no alternate control schemes so you had to use the R&C1-style controls, which frankly blow.

The demo is more then 5 mins long,I played through it last night, also its not polished as much as it should be for a demo IMO, there is some v-sync issues in the cut scenes and some game play. Seriously, bioshock demo wasn't that hot either my friend.

Its not the same demo from what I heard, this gamestop demo is the e3 build, the demo that is coming to PSN is something different.

Please don't tell me they wasted a blu-ray disc for the demo...

whether you like or dislike Bioshocks demo, it's at least an hours worth of content.
That's, what, half of heavenly sword?
The absolute ASSHAT of a manager that works at the GameStop on Clark and Diversey (for those of you in Chicago) was incredulous as he explained that he "talked to Sony" and that it was all an "internet rumor" and that there "is NO demo". The condescension at these stores is absolutely stunning...

I would take a month long delay than have to deal with a GS/EB.

All disc-based PS3 format software is on Blu-ray.

Not an hours worth,IMO and I didn't say I didn't like it. Im just saying its not the holy grail your portraying it to be also there is no point in bringing a 360 demo comparison toa ps3 thread unless your doing what most people do...troll.

Is anybody worried this game will be bad? I mean, seriously...if you've enjoyed them before, I'm quite confident this one will be great fun as well.
Now, if you've never played Ratchet, the demo would be a good idea to get a bit of a feel for it, but based on word-of-mouth around here, I'd think this would be a terrific game.

I'm waiting to hear from real impressions from the demo. The only impressions I've read so far are from fanboys with the OMFGLOLZ11!!!! comments about the game. Anyone have any sources for unbiased views on it?

I wasn't a huge fan of the demo, as it seemed like just more of the same old R&C. I was hoping it would, at the least, be quite a bit faster than it was.
I was a fan of the games on the PS2, but they really didn't do anything new with the demo. That said, it's just a demo - there's a lot they probably didn't show.
From what they show though, I'd just rent this one. Being first to market, the 360 burnt up all the 'same old game with new graphics' patience that I had - though Genji might have burnt up the last of it.

Micasa, which demo did you play? Did it have multiple control schemes?

I played the disc version - is there one on PSN already? I don't know about controls, I'd have to fire it up again.

The PSN demo's not up yet. I played a demo at PAX and it controlled R&C1 style, so there was no way to fire while aiming the camera, which took the fun out.
I feel the same as Micasa...more of the same...though I'm happy for 'more of the same' from great games, this was surprisingly dull. I have all three of the previous games, so I know all about the series, though to be honest even I'm not sure now what I was expecting after playing it.
Now, as for control, not being able to play like the last RnC...effectively like a 3rd person shooter...is a huge let down, but I have to believe that option is going to be there in the final. All in all, automatic cameras today in games HAVE TO BE OPTIONAL. If I want to have complete control of the camera, LET ME. Dear god I can't believe developers still insist on having the camera be automated; its nauseating as fuck when I'm trying to soak in the environment, which btw isn't necessarily awe inspiring, and it immediately fights me for angle. Its needless and frustrating and there isn't a reason in the world why its necessary to force it on players.
The best part of the game are the characters, albeit the very few you see in the demo. The weapons are bland (demo) and the game is easy (demo).
The confusing thing to me were the CG cutscenes...I thought the whole point to all this fidelity was to be able to have realtime, movie quality visuals and animation. When you get near the end of the demo, you can clearly see where its prerendered...*shrugs* ...ultimately the graphics are 'okay' but not incredible and there is definite slowdown and remarkable tearing...but I'll chalk that up to it being older code, but I'm not confident it will get significantly better this close to release.
Still buying it mainly because its RnC...and...because I'd like to own more than just Warhawk for my non-existent PS3 library. Bring on Uncharted please...
Phhhh

You can strafe... it's not RC1 style, more RC2 or the default control scheme for RC3.
