Female First (http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/celebrity/50042004.htm) has this story:

Cameron Diaz has reportedly turned down the role of Wonder Woman. Movie bosses had approached the stunning actress to play the scantily clad beauty in an upcoming reworking of the comic book heroine - but she refused because she wants more serious roles.

May I be the first comic fan to breathe a sigh of a relief at this news. PHEW.

She wants more serious roles? A Charlie's Angels wants more serioius roles? Ok... Glad she does because maybe the movie will have a chance...

I like Cameron Diaz a lot, but she would have been terrible for the role. She has too much goofball charisma. Plus, she'd have to gain about 3 inches, 40 lbs and 2 cup sizes.

I hope to God that Whedon gets an unknown actress for this role, because this primadonna shit is starting to get out of hand. Find someone who can act and do at least some of her own stuntwork, even if she has to wear a black wig. But to be honest I'm less interested in who will play Wonder Woman that who will fight her. She doesn't exactly have the deepest rogues gallery.

May I be the first to say "please stop these comic->movies conversions" - its getting really tired. :)

The very fact they even considered her means the film is doomed.

I think this movie will suck regardless who plays her. I must be the only one that will miss seeing Cameron's ass in Wonder Woman's outfit. Because seeing the movie will be to gawk at this and that is pretty much it.

The comic movies are starting to get a name for doing the unkown stuff, so I'm willing to bet that'll happen. Wonder Woman has a pretty big rogue gallery, but it's just not extremely well-known villains (which is a bit odd for such a big character). Still, that will be interesting.

May I be the first to say "please stop these comic->movies conversions" - its getting really tired.

You're far from the first to say that and it still means nothing. I've said it a million times and I will continue to every time this is brought up: the comic book/superhero movie has basically formed it's own genre. It's highly doubtful that it will be disappearing any time soon, and even if/when it does, it's bound to see a resurgance again. Besides, why complain? Some of the movies will suck, sure, but you'll also get some absolutely top-notch shit like Batman Begins out of it. Hell.

I think this movie will suck regardless who plays her.

Got any reasoning behind thinking that? Personally, with Whedon behind it, I think the movie has some pretty good chances.

Lets hope they stay true (http://www.superdickery.com/bondage/1.html) to Wonder Woman, as that may be the film's only hope.

Whedon has never done anything bad to my knowledge. I'll see his stuff on principle alone. I don't give two shits about Wonder Woman, but the fact Whedon is at the helm makes me think it'll be good.

That said, I really don't think Cameron Diaz suited this part.

Good, I'm glad she didn't get the role. I've been holding out for someone Joss has worked with before, Morena Baccarin (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1072555/). Smoking, sultry brunette with decent acting chops. She would make a great Diana.

To the thread above me: Someone on the comics forum I like visiting had a thread where he kept misspelling villains. He spelled it "villin". It was super-annoying. But that's probably just an English major thing.

Speaking of English major things, I now present!:

Wonder Woman is about as anglo as you can get - no Brazilians need apply. She is also an Amazon, so let's pass on the stick-figure chicks as well. I'm thinking Jennifer Connelly (although she's too old now) or someone like her...

lol 4 reelz

(I think the thing about this guy on the comics forums was, he wasn't really just mistakenly spelling the word wrong -- he honestly didn't know how to spell it. And I mean, with a word like villain, that seems a little mind-boggling. I dunno.)

Your cute little poem leaves out : "Irrelevant spelling NAZI comentary."

HaHA! But at least I tried to make the rest relevant. :\ And I wasn't very nazi-ish about it. Hell, that was cute though, wasn't it?

Because I dont like the trend and in my oppinion "top-notch" should be removed from you quote.

This is what I'm saying though. It's not even a trend anymore. It's become it's own genre. It just is. They're going to be around, and they're not going to end. Saying you wish they'd stop making superhero movies is like saying you wish they'd stop making romantic comedies: you might really deeply wish so, but it just isn't going to happen, so oh well.

I think he should get Morena Baccarin (Inara from Firefly) for WW. She's tasty, and not really a "big name star" so she'd be a fresh face too. Unless you're a Firefly fan, but I'm sure that'll be coped with by them. :)

While I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers, Jennifer Connelly doesn't really trip my trigger like she did, say, 17 years ago. Back then I felt she devastatingly beautiful. She's still good looking, but too... I dunno... "weathered", I guess, to hit me like she did back then. *shrug*

You're 100% right, I was thinking more in terms of brunette, stacked like she worked at a tit farm, with an ability to really act. I'm not sure how big/tall she is, but honestly that is a critical element of Wonder Woman. She is a f'n AMAZON.

According to this (http://comicbooks.about.com/od/dcsuperheroes/p/wonderwomanbio.htm):

To fulfill a deep inexplicable yearning, Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, shaped a sculpture in the form of a child using clay from the beaches of the Amazon island home Themyscira. Gaea, Earth Goddess, imbued the sculpture with the reincarnated spirit of a human child who died in her mother's womb nearly 30,000 years ago. The goddesses Demeter, Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Hestia, and god Hermes--all of the Greek pantheon--further endowed individual boons of power and skill to this child brought magically to life. Named Diana, she was to meet her true destiny growin into young adulthood.

Assuming they follow current continuity fairly well (which is probably a fair assumption), this is the best place to look for info on Wonder Woman's back story:

I call BS on this article. Whedon has stated that they aren't going to look at casting for a long time. Seeing as he's finishing up Serenity & hasn't even written Wonder Woman yet, it'll be a while before there is any casting news.

Kate Beskinstail (sp=FU) is like Chyna in comparison with the miniscule Jessica Alba. JA was on Leno the other night and I was reminded once more how brain-rottingly stupid that girl is. She even talked about how she wasn't afraid to get in a real fight LOLOLOLZZLOLLERSKATEBERRIES!!!! She's such a shrimp she'd get knocked down under harsh sunlight!!!

Unless this captures accurately captures the Wonder Woman William Moulton created, I'm not interested.

Didn't the Wachowski brothers get their start with a lesbian bondage film? They'd be perfect.

I'm guessing they'll go for the more modern Wonder Woman who is, admittedly, similar to the original Moulton creation but still different in some ways. Check out that link I had up above for more info on that.

And I agree: no Jessica Alba, kthx.
