Wired news is reporting (http://blog.wired.com/music/2007/10/winamps-10th-an.html) that the latest version of Winamp has built-in features to stream audio to your Nintendo Wii.
- The Winamp Remote feature allows you to stream the music and videos on your home computer to any other computer, a Nintendo Wii, or a cellphone, simply by leaving your home computer on and logging in to winamp.com/remote (iTunes, on the other hand, only lets you stream to computers on your local nework). I demoed Winamp Remote on a Wii and found it ran smoothly, with an easy-to-learn interface.
I use Winamp, as do 62 million other people.

Awesomesauce. I use WinAmp, as well. I'll definitely be trying this out tonight. :D

I'm interested in seeing how soon some OSS developer grabs this feature.
edit: Not trying to threadjack, but this reminded me of how hard it was to give up the improvements that XMMS makes over Winamp when I'm in Windows.

This does streaming to the PS3 and 360, too.

Sounds great. Right now I have a php program running on my computer to stream music to my work computer, I wouldn't mind running just winamp to do so instead.

How do you go to winamp.com/remote on your Xbox 360? No Browser...

Woohoo!
I'm amazed only Excite Truck has supported custom tracks so far.

No clue, really, I saw somewhere that it'll work on the 360 as well, I'll go check.....

It may show up as a Media Center Extender, allowing you to select it from the Music menu in the 360. I'll have to try it out.

Yeah, I honestly don't know. I know I saw on GameTab a story with the headline Winamp Now Works With PS3, 360, and Wii (or something similar), but I didn't bother clicking through because I wasn't really interested.

It claims that it works on the main webpage. i'll test that after I test my Wii.

I guess I'll have to upgrade my Winamp... finally :)

I'm fairly certain that Winamp Remote is basically just a plug-in that uses Orb. So, this is really nothing new. Winamp Remote has also been around for quite a while, I tried to use it with my laptop but it didn't have the functionality that I wanted.

I tried this out on the Wii a few minutes ago.
It's perfectly fine to stream audio to a Wii - HOWEVER...
There are flaws. I could only display like 10 songs a page, meaning I had 75 pages of songs. It was difficult to read song titles. However, once I started playing it, it worked perfectly fine. Definitely nowhere near as robust as the 360 version, but it works adequately.
If anyone else wants to test it on the 360 before me, that's fine - if not, I'll try to figure that one out later this afternoon.
edit @ Perigon. I saw the word "orb" several times, I think you're correct that orb is what it uses.

That really kinda sucks. I was hoping for something that worked better than Orb, when in reality, we just get Orb with a Winamp skin. :(

Yeah, I was excited about this since the Wii is the only console we have now, and Orb didn't work at all for me.
Back to waiting for Nintendo to let me attach a hard drive through USB, I guess.

I used to swear by Winamp.
Then I got an iPod, got forced into using iTunes, and eventually gave up the ghost.
iTunes handles massive libraries much better.

It says that you can use it with 360 and PS3. I'm at work still, but will be trying this as soon as I get home. Does anyone know if this will provide transcoding for non-supported file formats on the 360?
If so, good bye transcode360, you resource hog!

Hell yeah it does. I haven't used Winamp for a long time because of that.

I hear that a lot. I can only assume you're comparing iTunes to Winamp 2.x, because the media library in Winamp 5 works just as well, if not better, than iTunes.
