...and then there's the Mac gamer.
With all the flaming that goes on here daily about 'console vs. pc' and 'microsoft vs. sony vs. nintendo', isn't it funny that the direct ancestral originator of the 'format wars' has now been marginalized so that we can only shake our heads sadly at the plight of the poor Mac gamer.

isn't "Mac gamer" an oxymoron?

Yes the great days when the biggest debate was Nintendo vs Sega, and PC vs. Mac (Even though PC is personal computer and means Mac too... annoys the piss out of me)

And here comes the anti-mac crowd. Seriously, why do you bother? At least half of the news items on EA elicit a "meh, who cares," or a "wow, that's lame" from me, but I don't post and trash talk.
The lamest is the "haven't tried it and I don't like it" folks. If you haven't tried it, then shut the fuck up. If you're going to talk trash, then I want to hear the last time and place you've spent more than 15 minutes gaming on a mac. I want to see if you are a person with an informed opinion, or just a schoolyard dittohead.

I'm sure the quality of the games you're getting is top-notch. However, there's no question that you guys are getting shorted by the NUMBER of games. Even your best games are largely PC ports, right?
OK Crackeriah. The last games I played on (a friend's) Mac were Doom 3 and Halo (can't remember if it was 1 or 2). Before that, I had owned a PowerMac for years (starting around 1995) and I can state firmly that it now sucks to be a Mac gamer. Sure, they get the occasional big name support like UT2k4 or Doom3, but anyone who truly wants to experience what the game industry has to offer must own a PC, regardless of the platform they prefer. It's a simple fact, and you shouldn't get so angry about it.
Ironically, Marathon was the game that made me a fan of the FPS genre. Back then they already had VOIP sorted out and it only took PC games another 8 years or so to start incorporating that. I was sad to see Bungie purchased by Microsoft but when you look at the numbers, it was far wiser to bring Halo to the console audience over "Mac gamers" such as they were.

It seems more like good natured ribbing. I don't know how many people actually dislike Macs anymore. I mean they're easy to use, great interface, stylish design. They just often have this impressive hardware, but the games support is a bit lacking. Also, they don't get quite the same freeware apps. Mac is like the Canada of computers. They do a lot of things really well, and can do pretty much everything a PC can, but they're fun to pick on in good humor.

With Macs going to x86, though, perhaps the future will be brighter? Even if there aren't specific mac versions, Windows emulation may become very fast.

Mac's picking up unix = best thing for mac ever. These days, pc's are good for one thing only, gaming. If you need to do any sort of "work" or "research" or "run a stable computer", mac is the way to go.

Macs aren't for people who view their computers as a gaming device first. Casual gamers who own a mac might think the selection of games for their platform is adequate. I don't know. I haven't asked them.

Mostly. But at any given time, about half of the games that appear on Xfire's "today's top games" are also on the Mac. For people that want some games to go along with their computer (as opposed to some computer to go along with their games), then there's plenty of things to play on the Mac platform.

Apple has already stated that no other operating systems will be allowed on macs. And that they won't be selling a PC version of their OS. Of, course, I'm guessing you'll see pirated PC versions of the x86 os about two days after they launch the new macs. Maybe sooner, since the dev kits can be put on just about anything under the condition that they're returned by a certain date. Suppossedly some guy got it working on a tablet pc.

MS already has Virtual PC running on the x86 Mac and it's suppost to be very fast running under the host of MacOSX.

I use a 'PC' and have next to ZERO problems. I hate when people state this arguement. Just because 75% of PC users have no idea what they are doing doesn't mean the rest of us are crashing to blue screens all the time. I use Photoshop and various other MAC suggested programs and they almost exactly the same with no problems. The difference between the 2 platforms is software availblity and price.

You're talking about something totally different than I was. I'm saying that with Virtual PC and an x86 processor, pc games may be able to run very well on mac. As dogpoop said.
MacOS on standard PC is a whole different enchilada.

And who says I'm addressing you? Am I allowed to discuss other things? Or should I check in with you first? I'm saying you won't see windows on a mac or vice versa. And in the past, virtual pc has not been worth the disk it comes on. Do you have some kind of link?
