According to none other than our 'very own' Mark Rein (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=576743&page=2), post 19.

We do not know exactly when the game will be completed. All we've said is that we're hoping for a November release but as you know we value getting it right over getting it right now so there's no guarantee of that.

Of course, then again, it may not (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7127&Itemid=2).

This would hurt the PS3 more than anything.

(also, I've heard almost NOTHING about a freaking Unreal Tourney game so far, this would not be very surprising)

This months GFW mag had some good info about UT3.

Sucks if it is true, but not the end of the world. I'm gonna have plenty of other games to play.

Early 2008?

Plenty of shooters anyway. Orange box, H3, and COD just to name the big ones.

OK, so who does Epic sue?

...EPIC. It'll be like those Coke Zero commercials.

He normally only shows up to correct incorrect information. As this is quoting him, he probably doesn't need to correct it.

In a way I am kind of relieved. This is one of my most anticipated games this year but it comes out around the same time Crysis.

I want to put a lot of time in Crysis, so this isn't so bad. I also will be wrapped in TF2.

Well, taking this quote as a direct indication that the game won't make it out this year I think is incorrect. He's saying that they're shooting for November, but it's not set in stone. Could it be delayed? Yep. Could it come out in November as planned? That could very well happen too. I think he's covering their asses, so to speak, just in case it does miss a November release.

edit @ Gorvi: Right, but considering the word "may" is in the thread title, there seems little danger of anyone thinking it was nailed down.

It would be unfortunate if UT3 did get pushed back into 2008, but I suppose that CoD4 will keep my sated if that does happen.

I have lots to play between now and Unreal Tournament 3. Delay it as long as you like to make the game rock.

That sucks. I was looking forward to seeing this game. Seeing as I wasn't going to be able to play it until the 360 version came out, it doesn't really burn me, but it would've been nice to play it at my PS3-loving friend's house.

Better delayed than Lair.

Delayed and good is far better than on time and bad.

I was reading an article the other day about Blizzard's secret - protect the brand above all else. If you ship a lousy version of software under your brand, you've just devalued it to the point where people laugh at the name. Keep releasing great stuff and people will whisper your name in hushed, respectful tones.

Maybe I'm in this boat along, but being really big into every other UT game released I find myself not looking forward to this iteration as much, for some reason.

It's partly due to not being able to get hyped up about any one game this fall since there are so many, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I don't understand what's making UT3 different. I don't know what aspects I should be excited about. I don't know if that's my fault or Epic's.

First of all, this sucks. :)

This won't actually hurt the PS3 that much. Unreal Tournament fans are PC owners and they'll want the PC version (better updates, mods, mouse/keyboard already set up, dedicated servers, clan and league play, etc.) It will no doubt sell quite a few copies on the PS3, but it won't get people to buy the system. This is especially true since it will be released on the Xbox 360 early next year.

I'm actually happy with this, move it into December or January. November is expensive enough as it is.

This kind of thing is exactly why I'm waiting til 2008, possibly Spring, to get a PS3 rather than now.

but it won't get people to buy the system.

Along with MGS4, it sold me.

Mods, KB/M, ability to play with PC owners... much better than the 360 version IMO, and without the hardware investment of the PC. (The PS3 will likely have more games I want than an upgraded PC.)

I haven't heard any concrete evidence that PC vs. PS3 play will be enabled? Last I heard, in early August (only article I could find is at ps3fanboy (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/08/07/unreal-tournament-3-to-feature-pc-to-ps3-cross-play-still-undec/))

I like the idea of cross platform play because it increases the user base, but I'm not sure if it's actually going to happen? Is it?

Isn't this what they said they'd be using GameSpy for a little while back?

Good, I want it to be polished. I don't want a half-finished game, cobbled together to make the holiday sales market.

Epic has a great track record of releasing *finished* games. They don't need to fuck that up now.

I don't think so. Lots of games use Gamespy and don't have cross platform play. Every online DS game uses Gamespy, if I remember correctly.

Last I knew, they said they were looking into it, but didn't think it was going to happen.

I very much doubt it will happen, at this point. There would be a concrete announcement if it were.

Nice, conflicting answers right in a row. :p

Anyway, this is the newspost (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34378) I was referring to. It doesn't look like it addresses UT3 specifically like I thought I remembered it doing, but just UE3 games in general. So I guess it could be applied to UT3.

More from Mark on this (via GamesIndustry.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=28550)):
"The PS3 console exclusivity is not in doubt. We are shipping the game on the PS3 well before the Xbox 360 version ships," Rein told GamesIndustry.biz "That's the version we are working on right now. We do not have a date for the Xbox 360 version."

"Nothing has changed at this point," Rein said. "We're working toward a November release."

Addressing forum comments which were reported on earlier, Rein said the point was "not to cast doubt on our plans but rather to debunk the countdown timer on a German fan site that listed a specific release date."

"We don't know the specific release date yet and I think it is always prudent to remind our fans that we value quality over release date. They've come to expect that from UT and we don't want them to think we're handling UT3 any differently."
That should about cover it.

I've mixed feelings.

first and foremost is the "fuck! I really wanted this!"

But that's followed by the list as long as my arm of other titles coming out between October and Xmas that was already making me cry because I won't be able to buy all of them.... at least this will take some of the pressure off that situation.

True. He doesn't need to correct the fact that the 360 version should appear before the PS3, and that it will be shipping at the end of October, and that they've added a new Master Chief bot.

Think that'll be enough to get him to appear? /grin

Even if the game is out this November I'm not interested anymore sure I have read some previews and interviews some time ago about this game being like the original Unreal Tournament if not better but I'm really the only one that think it will be more of the same..?

Anyway if the game is released in November fine and if is released later fine as well.

Oh man, that's going to make it hard to find a good match if they actually let PS3 owners get in to PC matches. I know some of them will have mouse/keyboard and will be fine. . . but there is also voice to worry about.

I'm sure a lot of dedicated private servers will simply mod the server to exclude them, but what would really suck for PS3 owners is if they still show up in the PS3 server browser.

Well, to be fair a lot of PC players have mics from Ut2k3, I know that's how I got my first mic.

Plus, think about it, the PS3 userbase is going to be damned small compared to the hordes of PC players. You're not going to need a top of the line rig to play UT3, it'd sure help though!

Anyway, I'm gonna pick up the PS3 version day one. Hey... maybe they could do a headset pack-in like Warhawk? That'd be sweet.

I believe they said it'd be optional.
