Gamecloud has posted an interview (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=684) with Gustavo Sorola of Rooster Teeth, talking about Red vs. Blue, the hit Halo-based machinima series.

Why Halo, Wyrm? I mean this as an honest question. There are many games that are more machinima friendly, and it seems that alot of people would just see you as being a RvB ripoff. Not saying you are, of course.

I really hate the word "machinima." Try saying it out loud. Now, do you feel like a complete tool? I thought so.

Machinima is a poor man's means by which to make a movie. You certainly shoudlnt knock the method.

I'm not mocking the method, and I agree it is a very poor man's way to make a movie that only videogame fans will care about. I'm just saying it's a dumb word, like "blog" or "netiquette."

So, um, I'm actually a fan of machinima. I mean, sure the vast majority of stuff that gets released is going to be crap. But there's a lot of room for great stuff to come out to, and you know that people are really putting their all into this most of the time.

I've known about RvsB for quite a while, can't say I thought it was anything special, but I never heard of it being referred to as "machinima." Guess you learn a new word every day! So would all those WoW fan videos be considered machinima too? I've noticed that all the emotes in WoW seem to lend themselves well to this kind of stuff.

Yeah. Basically any short movie made using a videogame (recording in-game footage) is considered machinima.
