Ah...such a long list of things I won't buy.

For the first couple seconds of looking at that, I thought EA = Evil Avatar. And I thought the site had become a lot bigger than I'd realized. But I was fairly excited.

Upon realizing that it didn't mean that... I cared considerably less.

The only one on that list that's even a consideration for me is Black and White 2, but I'll be waiting for the reviews.

Looks like Rise Of The Imperfects will have some kind of Tekken-force type mini game or something.

And Venom!

Hopefully it won't turn into a stripped-down Powerstone.

Pretty sad that Black and White is the only game I'm looking forward to even remotely on that list.

I know that I shouldn't look forward to Black and White 2. But damn the first one showed so much promise, that I'll be a sucker and check out number 2.

And the video demos for 2 do look really great...

Spore?

I forgot the EA is publisher of Maxis and Lionhead.
Will Wright and Peter Molunx should combine their powers as they could probably make something great.

I didnt realize, at first, that those battlefield 2 screens were ps2/xbox and i thought "wtf are they running this on? my laptop from 2001?" I thought it was an expansion they were working on instead of fixing the glitches and I got mad at that. Damn.

Cross-posted from another thread where I wasn't getting many responses:

I've been wondering this for a while and I suppose this is a good place to ask. I understand why the non-internet saavy folks go out and buy Madden, along with other EA stuff on sight year in and year out. What I don't understand are the people here. In most EA centric thread you get a few people, myself included, that state that we don't particularly like EA's business practices and have therefore boycotted their games. It's not that we don't buy them, we just wait until we can get them used, which usually takes under a week or two, so that no money goes to EA. At the same time I get the feeling that there are plenty of people that post here and still go out and get EA games new.

The question is simply, why? Do you simply not think their practices are bad? Do you not like the inconvenience of waiting a week or two? I'm not trying to be snooty here, it just seems like the concensus is that EA is a real dickhead of a company, yet we gamers-in-the-know are pretty blase about it. I mean, I know it's not going to start a revolution, we all do, but as far as protests go it's so completely painless to me that I'm unclear why more people, especially those that hang on these boards often, don't seem to be doing it.

Edit: Just to reiterate, I buy plenty of EA games, I just don't by them the day of release. I wait a week or two, buy them used, and save $5 as a nice little bonus on top of not suporting their crappy business practices.

...So there are people who are excited about Black & White 2? Do you people have a learning deficency? Let me clue you in on how this is gonna go down:

"Nooooo! Moleeeeenoooo lied to me, this game is teh suck!"

"Told you so."

"No you didn't!"

"Yes, I did. You were like, 'This game is gonna be awesome', and I was like 'Don't you remember what happend the last two times you said that about Moleno's games?'"

"Bullshit! You were excited too!"

"Nope, I learned my lesson."

Then he's going to be hated for a month, before he announces a new game that everyone believes will be good.

Just because you buy an EA game used doesn't mean you aren't supporting them.
For example, say you buy the only used copy of Madden...but then the next kid comes in, asks if they have a used copy...they say no and he proceeds to purchase a new copy.

No, the only REAL way to hurt EA games is to not buy any of them in any way. I know it can be tough, but long term it's the best thing to do.

I don't have my hopes set that high, but I think the game will still be fun. And even when Molyneux (what the fuck is so hard about spelling out the guy's name?) doesn't deliver on all his promises, he still usually has a fun gameplay experience. The only thing that's ever bad about his games is the disappointment factor from overhyping. The solution is to avoid the hype, to not let it get your expectations so high. Just because we're looking forward to a game of Molyneux's doesn't mean we'll be let down -- not if we're looking at it realistically.

I don't find boycotting EA games to be that difficult. I don't like driving games, sports games, or licensed crap and that is 90% of what they create. I can find MUCH better RTS and FPS games from other publishers, so EA is making this very easy on me.

And I agree that buying their games used is not helping things. Unless you wait 6 months to a year when used copies are plentiful all you are doing is pushing people who can't find a used copy to purchase a new one.

I agree that in terms of getting results a full on embargo is "better", but I was more referring to people on this board that seem to not have any boycott running at all, even a rather limited one like the "only buy used games" one I do. Personally I do think EA makes a significant number of fun games, I just don't want to send money to a company that acts the way they do. I get the impression that a significant number of people feel the same way about the business practices, but just buy new games from the anyway.

You think not buying their games will change much of anything? Those poor employees that work for EA are going to be the first to get cut down if they start to faulter. Not to mention, who buys games when thinking of supporting or not supporting this company? I buy games that I enjoy, and I'm sorry if Dice makes their games under EAs publishing, because bugs and all they make good games.

I want Burnout. Mmmmm, Burnout. And while Peter Molyneux may not always deliver on a grandiose claim for some, his games are (generally) better than a good deal of the tripe I picked up last year.

I don't always, but as a general rule if I become aware that a company has bad business practices and I can avoid buying their products I do. I happen to think people should think about what they're buying.

Still, that was exactly the type of answer I was looking for. Thanks

hah! good luck finding a used copy of burnout 3 for less than 5$ less of retail when launched.. if any give up the game at all within the first month

shit burnout 2 for the gc is going for more than retail now used because of its rarity.

Yeah, I didn't get Burnout 3 till a bit longer than normal after launch, but I did eventually get it used. Still, it's not like I was at a loss for gaming during that time, so I don't feel like it was very inconveniencing.

I don't buy much from EA, and I try to buy used. They have been helping that along by not actually producing many games I'm interested in.

Those are some pretty sad comments. I guess you purchase everything without a care in the world as to which company is involved in it. You hold corporations to no standard whatsoever just as long as you like the product that comes out. That's a pretty scary way of thinking. As to those "poor employees that work for EA", I would recommend they seek new employment before EA screws them over.
