Yesterday we were all aflutter (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35508) when a scan from the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine seemed to confirm some very interesting features for the upcoming Mario Kart Wii - including in-air stunts, online Battle Mode and 16 person online multiplayer. Now word has come down, via a statement to Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=82833), that this was not an official announcement, but just speculation based on the (very short) E3 trailer. However, according to a statement issued to Eurogamer, it turns out this is all "merely excitable speculation" based on the Mario Kart trailer shown at this year's E3.

"The details printed in Official Nintendo Magazine 21 regarding Mario Kart Wii were healthy speculation on our part and are in no way an official announcement from Nintendo," the statement reads."We are sorry if we have misled anyone."This does not mean that these features won't be in the game, it just means that Nintendo has not confirmed them publicly yet.

What's that sound you hear? Is that....backpedaling? Yeah. I think it is.

Me thinks they accidentally revealed too much, too soon, with too little authorization. :D

It boggles my fucking mind how an official Nintendo magazine needs to speculate based on E3 trailers.

I always wondered about that as well.

Well I hope the info posted was correct, even if revealed a bit early.

So even the OFFICIAL magazine can't get any information?

What good is NOA?

I fucking hate NoE. They can go throw themselves off a fucking bridge, I've recently taken up piracy since they can't get their damned act together. Fuck 'em, they can't have any of my money.

Did they kill your father? Are they prepared to die?

No. they hold back release dates because PAL consumers are too stupid to buy Metroid Prime 3 in September. Or some crap.

I may have over reacted but I don't like having to turn to piracy, I'm not selling my Wii just to buy another import one, so piracy it is.

So...you're stealing from the company because of your own entitlement issues?

I said in the last thread but in E3 they said something like "more than 8 players, how much more, wait and find out". Anything less than 16 will look like a failure given that statement.

My guess is that laggerific games of at least 16 players are going to be possible.

EDIT: I checked the E3 vid to look up the quote and dug up another saying GH3 is going online on the Wii. So... nevermind. (I guess he had meant to say "GH3 will be online on every console except the Wii, we kind of suck at that" but it came out wrong.)

Well, as much as they may claim it's speculation. 2.5 of the points they made are confirmed.

Battle mode was officially stated to be online, we know by the trailer that characters can do Excite Truck-esque stunts as Wario does one when being launched off what looks like some boost ramp, and we know there will be more than eight racers (If you count the lineup in the video, there is at least 12).

This magazine is so fucking awful.

These are the same guys who said the Wii's stand would be its power supply, and then later hyped the announcement of exclusive coverage of a game coming in their next issue accompanied by a silhouette of Leon from Resident Evil 4, then when nothing materialized the next month they blamed readers for assuming it was about Resident Evil.

And now this.

They seriously have zero credibility.

When I saw the 16 player "news" I was automatically skeptical because of the source. This just cements my belief.

It's like they just make up news.
