Cheap Ass Gamer is reporting (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/archives/001000.php) that Nintendo will be promoting the Nintendo DS this fall by packing in a copy of the upcoming Metroid Prime: Hunters (http://media.ds.ign.com/media/682/682835/imgs_1.html) game much like the Mario 64 DS and DS bundle that is going on right now.

I couldn't find that Mario 64/DS bundle anywhere. I looked at several places before just giving in and buying the thing by itself with Kirby. I dunno if they only ran it for like a week or what.

I just got my DS with a free Mario 64 on Best Buy's website. Going to pickup Meteos shortly. The Metroid Hunters demo isn't half bad.

Luck punks buying the unit a year after us early adopters. Ah well, that's the price we pay.

Has anyone seen any recent news about Hunters itself? Previews tend to be unreliable but it would still be nice to know something about how the game is coming along. I wasn't terribly impressed with the demo but it certainly has potential.

the demo for metroid wasn't very 'metroidish' was it? it was just those training missions though... hopefully the real game is more in line with it's predessesors...
but with a name like hunters, it might just be some DeathMatch poop. have to go check the previews.

I just saw it at Target a few days ago (the Mario/DS bundle).

Weird. I checked an EB in Vegas, and I bought mine at a Target in the Twin Cities. Oh well, I wasn't that excited about Mario 64 DS anyways, plus a couple friends have it, so if I really want to play it, I'll borrow it.

This may put it over the edge in my mind, depending on Metroid's reviews.

I like what I've seen of it so far, you guys can check it out here: www.metroidhunters.com.
Thankfully Retro Studios are trying to expand the Metroid universe a bit with new races and characters, which is good. The gameplay videos show that each character has different abilities and interfaces, which will make multiplayer interesting.
But I'm mostly interested in the singleplayer aspect, and so far I haven't seen anything about it.

You know at first I said cool, this is worth putting off buying a DS for. Then I stopped, thought for a second, and realized that the reason I'm interested in a DS in the first place is for the odd ball games like Lost in Blue, not for regular style games like an FPS. So, I've gone back to my original plan of getting a DS sometime in September most likely.

Huzzah! A commendable decision as far as I'm concerned.

It's not a pack in bundle. Hell, it's not even a bundle. It's just, buy a DS and get Mario free.

I know. At both places I checked, they tried it and it didn't go in the computers, so they called higher-ups who said the deal wasn't running there any more.

At least the new metroid for the DS isn't just a downsize of the cube version.
Like somebody said. (I believe that it was off of penny-arcade)
"it's interesting to see that the DS came out with few games of interest, and now if comming up with some very promising games. While the PSP had a strong start and now all I play is 5 year old games (in reference to the emulators for the PSP)"
(that was shitty paraphrasing)

NST is responsible for Hunters, by the way. I expect the single player will involve playing as all the different characters, as the DS interface wouldn't handle the number of weapons that Prime had very well.
