The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/video_games/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000977895) revealed today that Majesco is working on a video game based on Marvel's Ghost Rider comic series, and will be released at the same time as the movie, summer 2006.

Developed by UK's Climax, Ghost Rider will have players face off against such villains as Blackheart and Mephistopheles. Players will be able to ride the Hell Cycle on water and boost over jumps. The third-person perspective game also will feature such weapons as the Hellfire Chain and Hellfire Shotgun. Comic scribes Garth Ennis and Jimmy Palmiotti are penning the game's story, which will pick up after the events in the upcoming film and provide an interactive sequel featuring cult superhero Ghost Rider.

I doubt the game will be worth it, but I'm hoping the movie turns out okay. Good enough to revive the Ghost Rider franchise, at least, since the character pretty much died out in Marvel comics thanks to overuse in the '80s.

I always thought that the concept in general of Ghost Rider was weak. A demon biker? It just seemed so cheesy.

Ennis writing the story? That's at least cool, much like Bendis writing the story for the Ultimate Spidey game.

It's totally a cheesy concept, but Ghost Rider has been a very cool character when written well. But, not unlike Wolverine currently, he got super-popular so Marvel glutted the market with tons of books featuring him and had him guest-starring all the time in other books, so he got weak pretty quickly. Now I don't think he's in anything major. The character could be dead. Not even really sure.

Also: I hear Nicholas Cage plays Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in the movie. May I be the first to say: wow.

LMFAO, that's priceless.

Aside from that though, I'm hoping this game turns out good. Technically the character + bike leaves lots of room for some great gameplay ideas. If the developer screws it up, then I hope they go under, because this is an easy game to make (as there's tons gameplay mechanics I can already think of off the top of my head).

If memory serves, wasn't Climax the studio that brought us the awful Sudeki?

When was Ghost Rider as popular as Wolverine?!? I don't remember him ever achieving the same status as Wolverine. Not in the 70's, 80's or 90's. To be as popular as Wolvie, Ghost Rider would have to have a cartoon, several videogames and/or cameos in videogames, a Holloween costume, lunch box, etc...etc...

Yeah, I think Climax were the guys that did that psudeo-game pSudeki. We'll see what they do with a 2nd-tier license like Ghost Rider.

Hey! Wasn't Crystal Dynamics doing a Ghost Rider game way back when!?! What happen to that? Did it come out? Was it so bad that nobody remembers?

It was in the '80s and marketing wasn't quite that high. I mean obviously videogames weren't a great sign of popularity then as they weren't that popular yet. But Rider was all over the place in comics. Same with the Thing in the '70s. Not sure about a cartoon (though I wouldn't doubt it), but there was definitely all sorts of toys, lunch boxes, costumes, etc. And, like I said, he was everywhere in Marvel comics. Annoyingly.

Speaking of which, I wish Wolverine's popularity would reach its peak and fade away already. Marvel is STILL throwing him into everything possible and there are still people buying it just because he's in it. To hell with that.

From here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neversoft).

In 1996 Neversoft continued to expand, swelling to over twenty employees. They worked for six months on a game based on Ghost Rider for Crystal Dynamics which was cancelled due to financial problems with the publisher. They got connected to the internet (previously all communications were done with phone and fax). With some excess capacity Neversoft started to develop a game of their own design, initially called Big Guns. The technology developed there was used in their next project, a conversion of the PC game MDK. Toward the end of 1996 Neversoft sold the idea for Big Guns to Sony Computer Entertainment and they began development.

Interesting. I actually sort of vaguely recall hearing about that, but it would've had to been when I was pretty young. Which is probably why I don't remember it.

That's all I needed to hear, this game will probably be subpar.

I just hope the movie doesn't suck. A decent game would be nice too.

Have you guys seen the pic of Ghost Rider from the new movie? He looks BADASS. Let me compare it to the comic: exact replica.
