Well it finally happened, the NHL and the NHLPA reached (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2106776) a new labor agreement
in principle ending the lockout.

All the gory details are here (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=2106921) and at ESPN.com. (http://www.espn.com/)

Meh. Damn NHL reports always get in the way of my NBA coverage on ESPN, so I'm probably the least thankful one here ;)

But for you hockey fans, congratulations. I'm sure it's been tough.

Is the NBA a sport? I mean really. Find your value in college athletics.

Well it's gaming news because a lot of people, even on this website, have expressed how they wanted there to be a new NHL game for 2005 but were disappointed because of the strike.
And a sports franchise starting up again, I'm with you there. How on earth could that be sports news?

YAY!! I'm more excited about seeing awesome hockey high-lights the next morning instead of the zzzzzzzzz baseball ones that I've been forced to endure for the past 301 days.

To recap: YAY!!

It's sad that sports is only about money these days, and not for the love of the game.

I still find it funny, that most sports comentators and those that are in the field of sports think hockey is a joke.

Thank GOD for this. I'm very pumped, I missed hockey like crazy this year. Sure, this IS a gaming site, but it's never limited to that. If some of you didn't appreciate the news story, then why bother posting your opinion about it here? Heh, just skip down to the next headline.....right?

Hope this evens the playing ground for all the teams in the NHL, even though I'm a Devils fan. Plus, I'm pumped for new rule changes! BRING IT ON!

Glad it's back, should make the fans happy. I'm more of a minor league hockey fan myself and there's been no interruption for me :).

How about some of you shit-talkers try lacing up a pair of skates, try to skate one length of the ice and take a slapshot without busting your ass. Yea, it's not a sport, fucking idiots.

It's sad that sports is only about money these days, and not for the love of the game.

For most of the high profile players this might be somewhat true but it isn't for most players. Some people, in every sport, there are those who play for love of the game. They are fewer and fewer each year but they do exist. Some are even great athetes on top of it. Tim Duncan comes to mind (personal opinion). Cal Ripken Jr (though retired) does as well.

As for Hockey coming back, I am happy that everyone came to an agreement. Lord Stanley's Cup can earn another year to stay in Tampa! :)

The Season then should start on time. Anyone know any specific rules changes?

MosBen

Though this certainly looks good, it should be noted that an agreement in principle is not binding or final. Yeah, I'm sure I'm just being a little too cautious, but this could still break down potentially.

I also am glad, but now I have nothing to complain about in the sports world. Oh well, I'll find something:

Fantastic news. Can't wait to see the puck drop again. Sadly, though, this deal presages another Dark Time for Leafs fans (anyone remember the Ballard years?) A lot of teams are really good at developing young talent, drafting well, and getting good market value for current assets. ... The Leafs are not one of those teams.

Hopefullly the Kush Team / Sega Sports / Global Star / Take-Two monster will set to work on a sequel to the fantastic NHL 2k5.....and fuck the 'ESPN' part of it.

Finally, rule changes I've read about include the introduction of a shootout, bigger nets, and significantly smaller goalie equipment. As pointed out by MosBen, though, this stuff needs to be ratified, so at this point rule changes are still just speculation.

Ted, I remember there being rumors about a rule change restricting goalie movement outside of the crease, that still being talked about? Hope not, I love my active goalies.

I remeber reading that reruns of the Cosby show on cable earned higher ratings than the NHL championship series. Yea! Hockey is back woohoo! And the continued falling revenue as a result of this lockout and Hockey's general disdain around any respectable sports fan will lead the way for this sports eventual home; obscurity.
