According to the Japanese SNKPlaymore (http://game.snkplaymore.co.jp/press_releases/index_press.php?num=115) website, it seems as if the first Neo-Geo game(Fatal Fury) may be hitting the Wii Virtual Console come September 11 in Japan. Also mentioned are Magician Lord and World Heroes.

1 餓狼伝説 平成19年9月11日 900ポイント
2 ワールドヒーローズ 平成19年9月配信予定 900ポイント
3 マジシャンロード 平成19年9月配信予定 900ポイント

Now my Japanese may be a little rusty but.....I'm not sure how to finish that sentence. Regardless, while this shows very little information regarding the release date for other territories, it certainly shows some progress is being made. Now give me my Shodown.

How is that going to fit onto the built in Wii memory? Weren't those games a good 200+MB? That means you could have only 2 at a time, wouldn't it?

They probably expect you to backup stuff to a card

Compression methods are far more advanced than they used to be. You could probably get first gen games under 15MB or so.

you're still going to have to decompress to memory though, and i KNOW the wii doesn't have enough for the bigger titles. we'll be faced with lame load times like in metal slug anthology. blech.

How about they start porting the GOOD version of games? Say the Saturn version of Virtua fighter, not the Genesis version.

I still can't believe that everyone wants to throw money around to play old games that have been given no enhancements for new systems at all.

To be more precise, 200 Mb, not 200 MB.

;953846']They probably expect you to backup stuff to a cardThat or delete and re-download.

I mean, what do you do with physical copy games that you don't play anymore? Don't you put them in a case and then store it safely?

Why not just put your unplayed VC games on SD which you just leave in the SD slot on the Wii.

If you want to play an old game again move the game back into the main memory of your Wii. Just like you'd pull the old game out of storage.

I don't think it's been mentioned, so I thought I'd point out the Neo Geo games will be 900 Wii Points each. Pricing for all regions is the same, so expect $9/Neo Geo game when it hits the US.

I meant it in a "well then, you'll think this is cool" sort of way; not in a "why the hell didn't you already know about this?" sort of way. :D

All good. What little secrets do you have in terms of online play?

All good. What little secrets do you have in terms of online play?Well, I don't know how much of a secret this is, and the source isn't overly reliable, but there's a nasty rumor going around that Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii is having online issues (http://www.thebbps.com/blog/2007/08/30/guitar-hero-iii-may-be-online-but-will-it-be-nintendo-online/).

That's probably not something you really wanted to hear. :(

No that's MegaBytes. Check the rom sites.

Actually, the standard size was 330 Megabits. Later on, some cartridges were designed to swap out their memory banks, so they got up to ~700 Megabits.

So a standard Neo rom would only take up ~40 Megabytes, and one that featured bank switching could take up ~90 Megabytes.

Those are still a little large, given the Wii's relatively small disk size, but it's almost half of what was originally expected.

edit: of course, given some compression, I bet a good twenty-five percent could be knocked off the size of quite a few Neo roms.

I guess it's really not that bad. I'll be picking up M3 and eventually play that but I'm the guy who does very little with his Wii.

I'll stick with my neo-geo cabinet thank you...
No emulation beats putting a coin in the slot and button mashing on a real arcade cab :P

But is it an AUTHENTIC experience? You've got the gum stuck under the sticks, low humming atmosphere lights, a little kid who talks like he's tough shit and smacks the buttons like a rabid monkey then accuses you of cheating when you kick his ass?

And of course the most important feature, the creepy fat guy who comes around and collects all the quarters every wednsday.
