The new video (http://nin.com/visuals/index.html) for the Nine Inch Nails song "Only" that was directed by David Fincher (Fight Club and Se7en) has been posted on NIN.com. (http://nin.com/) I only mention it because it looks really damn cool and I think the effects have to be computer generated unless they had someone that was really damn patient create the effects.
FYI, there is profanity in the video/song.

Truly awesome. I love both Reznor and Fincher.

Well, I guess this confirms for me that people do still like NIN. I tried to watch it and it just kept thinking how boring both the song and the video was. Further reminders that I am not interested in mainstream music, and don't want to be. I remember reading an interview with Reznor that discussed how he lost fans with each successive album. Even though I keep trying, he lost me a while ago. The Fragile and everything after it just seemed really boring and uninspired. Oh well, at least you guys enjoyed it.

I love the director, but I hate NIN with every fiber of my soul, so I cant bring myself to watch it.

It's a cool video. I still like Nine Inch Nails.
I'm leaning more towards computer effects, than stop-motion.

I think that Lil Jon & Trent Reznor need to produce a few songs together. You put the power of the angst of those two guys together in a track, that would be pretty powerful.
The new NiN album is very well done. It feels very Reznor all the way through. The Fragile was alright, but being that it was an experiment by him and his band while they were out in the Bahamas, I expected it to be fairly different than the rest of the Halos... and it was. This album reminds me of Broken.

That video is amazing. Who would've thought that a video focusing on a computer table would've been so interesting to watch.
I think "With Teeth" is alright. It's not too far from Pretty Hate Machine but in my opinion, nothing can beat it and Broken. Fragile, Downward Spiral and other more recent albums were interesting but far from Trent's debut.
This is cool. If I remember correctly, Fincher's previous work on NIN videos is what got him his first feature film job, directing Se7en.
EDIT: A quick IMDB check reminded me that I'm full of shit... he directed Alien3 before Se7en. Still, most of his work was music-related in the beginning.

I didn't really like the song, but the video was kinda cool.
On the other hand "Hand that feeds" is a cool song with a video that is so boring.

That is correct Bone.
And Pretty Hate Machine wasn't Trent's first offering. There was a halo before that one, but I be damned if I remember the name of it. This was back when the band was whomever and the songs were him, a Macintosh & a drum machine. You can definitely hear the influence of Prince and Public Enemy in his early works as well.

Purest Feeling was the unreleased album, and it wasn't a "halo".. it was also extremely... tender... sounding. heh. Recommended for a laugh, not as actual enjoyable music.
Speaking of "tender" first albums, anyone hear Ministry's album before they went industrial? Heh. As touchy feely as New Order.

Didnt Fincher just have a new movie not too long ago? I remember seeing his name on something recently. Can't remember what though. I like his stuff.

Are you thinking of Panic Room?
No. Maybe I accidentally realized it was he who directed both Se7en and Fight Club a while back. I dont know. But I saw his name around recently and I thought maybe he had directed a movie that was newer than the 3 mentioned.

I enjoy NiN's new album, there only one part that seems a bit "campy" in the whole cd, or rather one bit that really stands out "I've got my arms a-flip-flop-flip-flop-flip" seems a bit too goofy the rest of that song is good though. I really like the new CD.

So, for those who enjoy NIN are you into the spin-off bands like Filter or Prick or as Renzor stated, the copy cat band Stabbing Westward?
I think Filter sounds like watered-down, crappier NIN. Haven't heard Prick, but Stabbing Westward is a lot more original than Trent would like to believe. Those guys actually have a pretty cool sound IMO.

I like the video. The song is like everything released from NIN after Downward Spiral: meh to bleh.
Oh, all I want musically is another Downward Spiral. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to listen to DS again and again.
(btw, Stabbing Westward may be kind of a rip off of NIN in some aspects, but Linkin Park is a total rip-off of Stabbing Westward, which is just plain sad. )

Fincher hasn't directed a movie since Panic Room. He's been attached to about 300 different projects since (which have fallen through for one reason or the other) and occasionally directs commercials (like that HP one where the guy walks through the office while his clothes and surroundings constantly change), but you're probably thinking of Lords of Dogtown, which he executive produced.

I really don't like the video that much, which is too bad, because I'm a massive fan of Trent Reznor's work, and think 'Only' is a really well done 'new wave' style song. Sounds almost like something from PHM, but, unfortunately, the video looks like something you'd see as an iPod ad.

I recently read somewhere about how he's making F. Scott Fitzgerald's Benjamin Button into a movie with Brad Pitt as the lead.
I can't remember where I read that (Newsweek possibly) but I have the same "vague" sense as you. (Except I've been a Fincher die-hard since Se7en... so that's a stretch.)

Great video, but I still don't like Nine Inch Nails. The only thing I remotely like featuring Trent Reznor would be the David Bowie track "I'm Afraid of Americans". Quite the simple track, but damn good.

I think i was expecting too much from "With Teeth" as much as i love NIN and it being one of the last new albums ive bought in the last 3 years. When Trent said it was going to be a more synthosizer affair with this one, i somewhat shouldve expected it was going to be sounds as rock compared "No you don't" and "Into the void." Even besides that ive been listening to it nonstop in my car and yah i somewhat shudder when i hear the damn "I got my arms in flip flop flip flop flip" really couldve gone without that. Oh well, wait another 3-4 years and we'll see what they come up with next...
Also anyone know whatever happend to that Project Tapeworm that paired Trent Reznor with Maynard (from Tool and A Perfect Circle) and i think Marilyn Manson? Last news i heard of that was Maynard sung a song from it at an APC concert and it pissed Trent off and he wasnt so proud of the project or something.

The project was abandoned. The only thing to come from it recently was the redone version of "Vacant" by A Perfect Circle, which is now called "Passive" and is on eMOTIVe.

Filter has gotten weaker since their first CD, Short Bus, but I like Richard Patrick's voice. Anyways, the latest on Filter is the guitarist and bassist brothers from STP have join Filter for the new CD that's due out this year. I don't know if that's BS or not but that could be cool.
Prick is a one man band that Trent helped get on it's feet and they/he opened for NIN on his second Downward Spiral tour with David Bowie.
Stabbing Westward was a great band, Chris Vrenna the drummer on a few NIN items played with SW.
A guy I work with used to work with Chris Vrenna as a valet years ago(during the early days of NIN). I thought that was pretty cool. Said he was a hard worker and madly ambitious, if i remember correctly..

Filter's first CD will always be one of my favorites. Same with STP. Stabbing Westward is a very good group I wish I heard more from. NiN is classic.

Downward Spiral is actually my fave NIN CD, but I'm far from a full-time fan. I find their music listenable and mostly enjoyable, though. I play it on my radio show ocassionally.

Actually, David Fincher's first film was Alien3--and yes, his popularity as a video director got him the job. He also did a video for Perfect Circle's "Magdalena" (might have been "The Hollow" now that I think about it) a while back that was also quite cool. As an interesting note, Fincher got his start working as a minature crew camera operator on Return of the Jedi.
As far as With Teeth goes, I think it is some of Trent's best work in the last 10 years. Spiral was obviously a high point (in terms of popularity and quality) but With Teeth reminds me more of his earlier work on Pretty Hate Machine and broken. He's got a few slow and melancholy tracks, but for the most part the album is good 'ol pissed-off Trent, which is great.
And the video. Freaking fantastic. I'm just glad to see one without the idiot band just prancing around a poorly lit room. At least it tries to do something interesting. It's also interesting that the video starts with a guy hitting the space bar on a mac...you think Fincher digs the iTunes? Or maybe it's a subtle advertisement for the fact that Trent has released "Only" and several other tracks to fans to be remixed in Garageband. Hmm.

Halo 1 was the single for "Down in it".
I hadn't heard anything off of "With Teeth" until I saw this video. I am not impressed. Depeche Mode did this kind of music better 20 years ago, and didn't need F-bombs to look cool.

Im pretty damn sure you mean Judith considering none of those were made into music videos when Mer De Noms came out. Also since Judith seems more so in his style.

Brian Leisgang worked on the new Billy Corgan (of Smashing Pumpkins fame) solo album. Brian Leisgang was the second (and in my opinion, better) half of the first Filter album, Short Bus. since then, richard patrick took that band in the wrong direction and failed. He started a new band called The Damning Well and did a track for the Underworld soundtrack called Awakening, which is really good.
This video is not a nin video. It's a freaking apple computer commercial with f-words.

Ummm..David Fincher hasn't done a NIN video prior to this one. I'm a music video buff and I was shocked when I read that sentence. ;-P

im going to go so far as to say with teeth is my favorite album..
i like em all almost equally because they all have their virtues and he is one of the few artists that i know of that makes an album worthy of not skipping tracks.
the themes are melancholic, angry, lost, and desparate through the whole album, compared to a single emotion for most of his other albums..
