While we don't get Super Metroid, it hardly seems to matter since we get Wrecking Crew! All up it looks like this:

Wrecking Crew (http://www.vc-reviews.com/review/552/wrecking-crew.php)
Lunar Pool (http://www.vc-reviews.com/review/528/lunar-pool.php)
Neutopia (http://www.vc-reviews.com/review/477/neutopia.php)

Wrecking Crew is a little known but delicious morsel. While not for all tastes, I suggest you read the review and if it sounds like your thing I insist you download immediately. Lunar Pool is fun but there's better thing to spend your points on. And Neutopia is apparently a pretty good Zelda clone. I might have to check it out.

Wait, wasn't the Wrecking Crew a group of Marvel villains? And speaking of "morsels," I think this is one Screw Attack spit out in their list of "Worst Games With Mario." I'd be torn...

Still waiting for Street of Rage 3 and Sonic 4 (Sonic and Knuckles).

Yes but they were stupid. Very stupid.

Yeah, they also said that the original Mario Tennis sucked. Hell, I think Mario 2 (US) was on that same list. Just goes to show that if you're watching anything from Screwattack that isn't AVGN, you're wasting your fucking time.

Yes, Mario 2 was on that list, but because it wasn't the real SMB sequel, it was a modified game from Japan. We didn't get SMB 2 because they thought it would be too tough for us.

As far as Mario Tennis, it was the Virtua Boy version, which tried to make your eyes bleed. Did you even watch it?

Man after Super Metroid, it's gonna take something huge to get my gaming dollar from the VC store. Earthbound, SMB3, or Blaster Master is what would do that for me.

Oooo, Blaster Master. Good call. Still love that game. It's one of the first NES games I can remember beating.

I tip my hat to you good sir, I never beat Blaster Master. Time to make up for that sin on the VC.

That and Lifeforce almost were my end, but somehow I managed it. I'm a wuss compared to the amount of patience I had when I was 12.

I could imagine the conversation.

"Hey, according to this Wikipedia page, Super Mario Bros 2 was different in Japan, and the US game is based on another Japanese game"
"Wow, I'll bet only 99% of the gaming populace know about that. Let's show off that we are 'in the know' by mentioning this!"
"But how can we shoehorn in our 1337 knowledge while looking nonchalant about it?"
"Well we're going a 10 worst Mario games of all time, let's throw SMB2 US into there. Then all in the land will be aware of our 1837 knowledge. By the way, what does that mean?"
(explains origins)
"Oooh, I'll bet only 99.9% of the gaming populace knows that, let's work on shoe-horning that in nonchalantly next."
And so on.

. We didn't get SMB 2 because they thought it would be too tough for us.

IMO they were right. That game is frustrating enough when you can save after every level. I guess the level designs were good, but a lot of things were tedious (invisible blocks, for one) and the whole thing was just... damn hard, coming from someone who liked Ikaruga.

Not to mention that much more Japanese folk would have played "Super Mario USA" rather than "Doki Doki Panic". Sure they shoehorned it into a Mario game for the purposes of profit, since Mario was more recognisable in the west than a Japanese TV station. But the game was (is) awesome and deserves broad appeal.

And yes the jp 2 was brutal and probably would have had a negative affect on the market and was better off bundled in Allstars.

But all of that is irrelevant because Wrecking Crew is awesome and should be bought by all prompting a DS sequel. (And no Wrecking Crew 98 doesn't count as a proper sequel.)

Wrecking Crew gave me nightmares as a kid. Those monsters just never fucking died.
