BaNamco (as I've decided to call them) sends word about some exciting new online multiplayer modes for their upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.
Some snippets:
- Siege Battle: Two teams of up to four players each take turns assaulting and defending a variety of land, sea, and air-based targets in this original online mode. The team that is able to divide and conquer, clearing the targets in the shortest amount of time, will become the winner.
- Battle Royale: Dodge missiles, blast your opponents and hit the throttle in this frenetic free-for-all battle! Up to 16 players can participate in Battle Royale mode, with the pilot with the highest score at the end of play taking first place.
Press release, as usual, after the jump!
I love me some Ace Combat action. I have a feeling I'm going to love me some Ace Combat Xbox Live action even more!

Up to 16 players total can play as up to two different squadrons to see who rules the skies in this test of aerial tactics.
- Siege Battle: Two teams of up to four players each take turns assaulting and defending a variety of land, sea, and air-based targets in this original online mode. The team that is able to divide and conquer, clearing the targets in the shortest amount of time, will become the winner.

In addition to online play, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation supports a wide variety of downloadable content that lets players customize their play experience and enjoy the game long after they have completed the title's single player story mode.
Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation supports the following downloadable content:
- New Color Schemes: From authentic military designs to fun and original patterns, players will be able to customize their plane with a wide variety of downloadable color schemes that can be used across the game's single-player and multiplayer modes. Awesome. Ace Combat 4 and 5 were my two favorite games of the last generation (strange but true) so I will be definitely picking this up day one.

Is there co-op campaign? It is an arcade game after all.

I absolutely love the trailer for this game and while the demo was a lot of fun, I can't see myself sticking with the game for very long. I was the same way with Ace Combat 5.
Definately going to rent it though and see how it is. The co-op and multiplayer might push it over the edge to Buy territory once the price drops a tinch.
I do take a bit of issue with that DLC. Why not include it in the game proper instead of nickel and diming us? I wouldn't have a problem if the DLC was announced a while after the game had shipped but when it's still 2 months away, why not just slap it on a disc?

My thoughts exactly. I'll be renting this one, but it looks to be some solid fun (I enjoyed the demo).
As for the DLC, hopefully it'll all be released for free when this is a budget game like what happens to many other titles.

I'm not into this type of game, so I really don't know if it is a big draw or not. Do you guys who like these games really care that it is a 360 exclusive? I mean, if you didn't already own a 360, would this make you run out and buy one? If not this game alone, would it be one that, among others, would get you to go out and buy one?

Yes. In fact, I was planning on getting a PS3 just for the Ace Combat series. But thankfully its coming out on a console I already own. Prior to the announcement that it was coming out for the 360 I was already thinking of buying one, but this made getting a 360 essential for me.

Sounds awesome, played the PS2 versions to absolute death!
I foresee many a Top Gun quote over Live.

I loved 5 on PS2, got the one with the sweet flightstick. Icidentally it's the same one offered with the 360 and USB still, too. (wonder if it would work...).
Which version you guys getting?

The day I heard Ace Combat 6 was coming to the 360 I resolved to get one; a couple days later, I was playing crackdown at home ;)

Now with online multiplayer, this game is going to be great. I got the one with the flight stick because I'm a sucker for gimmicky stuff like that. I'm definitely looking forward to playing with some people online.
Yeah, I'm sorely tempted to get a 360 to play this. The only thing stopping me is the lack of hardware change I see the 360 having undergone. (I don't want something that sounds and feels like a hair-dryer and is likely to go ring-of-death on me.) ..So I'm keeping an eye on what sims turn up for the Wii too. hehe.. (I'm not massively picky with my flight-sims .. Ace Combat would be my ideal one, but I'll settle for something less.)

Get the Halo 3 edition and you are guaranteed the new, smaller chip and the HDMI port. Or wait a couple of months for mid-October or so and they should have sold through all of the older units.
Personally, I never really hear the machine after I start playing. I know that this is a trick of my mind focusing on the game's sound and turning the whir of the 360 into white noise, but it works.
In any case, you answered my question. There definitely are people who would buy a system for this game.

I would, if MS-Brasil lowered the price of the Xbox 360 here.

I'm the same. I really noticed it when I first got the system but now I only notice it when the drive spins down at the end of a gaming session. It's only noticeable when I'm actively listening for it these days.

I wish they'd do a flight sim that was a compromise between the fps flight sim (this) and a full flight sim (falcon 3.0) for the console.
For instance, you could have you and your xbox live buddy flying the same plane but he'd be the guy in back painting targets for you and performing complicated ecm wizardry while you flew and fired. Of course you could swap it out for the next sortie. Just wishing.. There was an old commodore 64 game that let you do just that that as you penetrated the virtual airspace of soviet russia.

I really got addicted to the demo for this game.
Awesome fun, great gameplay, incredible graphics. Another game on my most wanted list of 07.
Can't wait.
