Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com/) has posted an interesting article (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/cpress/20050711/ca_pr_on_ho/games_nhl_lockout_1) on how video game developers are dealing with the NHL lockout and this year's releases.

Here's a bit from the article.

Developers are already anticipating rule changes.

"We have adjusted the size of the goalie gear down to the size that I think has come out of the (rules) meetings," Perkinson said. "It's not a drastic change and probably (only) the super-hardcore fan will notice it, but it's certainly something we wanted to do for the game."

One unexpected positive of the lockout is that no statistics changed, says Perkinson. So Sony could dispense with announcers Mike Emrick and Darren Pang updating their voice-over with new stats. Instead they could concentrate on expanding the commentary in other ways.

Thanks to Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) for the tip.

So...does anyone else feel a bit cheated out of their '05 NHL games?

Last I heard ESPN is still ticked off at the NHL/NHLPA about the lockout with having to scrub their lineups and deal with advertising losses?

The lockout is a shitty situation. But IMHO, I'd rather see the league win out and get salary caps put in place.

At least they're not making it REALLY realistic, and just selling you an empty DVD case.

I feel shitty about the lockout. Fuck them. The basketball strike years ago made me stop watching the NBA. If baseball does it again, i might stop, too. For less popular NHL to do that shit, it's just plain dumb. They've basically fucked themselves. I went to a hockey college (UMaine Black Bears) and though I love hockey, I have nothing but disgust for this bullshit.

Once again, fuck hockey.

Fuck Hockey because the players want more money? Or fuck hockey because the league wants to enforce salary caps?

IMHO I just love the game. I could care less about professional sports though, I'd rather play it myself than watch someone else.

Fuck proffessional sports, fuck them up their fucking asses :p I may pick up a hockey game every now and then, but I really couldn't care less about the real world teams.

Obnoxious grammar lesson behind, it pretty much boils down to this: if you want to play the same game you bought last year with different rules, go ahead and buy it. If not, be happy with what you have and wait until next year.

man this could be odd, they have to consider to geting rid of red line, put in shootouts, 3 points for regulation game win, and not to mention the 50 allstar players that will become free agents after this new cba is put in!

they should just wait and ship it later.

Both reasons. It all boils down to money. Screw Jeremy Roenick too. Not just the players are spoiled...but everyone affiliated with professional sports is too. This means owners, managers, players in all sports leagues. Think about it...grown men are being paid millions of dollars a year to play what is essentially a kids game.

This squabbling over money, whoever is at fault, screws the fans the most. The people who fund their BMW's, their mansions, their supermodels...they are the ones being fucked over. I am a joint employer of Major League Baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. I pay for the merchandise, the tickets, I watch the games on tv. But then a league goes and cancels the season, goes on strike? I have a serious problem with that.

Bring in the scabs. They are ready to gnash their teeth for a chance to play. Scabs are the true players...they do it for the game and obviously not for the unions or money. I'd rather watch them anyday then some crybaby superstars. But mostly, I'd rather watch them because it would still give me the chance to WATCH the sport. Without line crossers, we have nothing. Like we do now.

Amen to that. I play in a casual adult league and never ever watch the sport on TV. Whatever they will no affect me in a slightest bit.

A few years ago I went and saw SJ Sharks vs MI Wild game, paid $65 a ticket, got seats all the way in the back, no on scored a goal, some dude spilt his soda on my lap and my friends car got dented at the parking lot.

The local San Diego Gulls games cost me $12 (discounted), I get great seats, close up parking and the game is easily as fun to watch.

So screw NHL

Being a canadian, i can typically say my child hood was filled with many street hockey games, foot hockey and even ice hockey. While i think the strike was stupid i still love hockey.

NHL2k5 was the best hockey game released to date.

Looking forward to 2k6 with great anticipation, and if a CBA is signed in time, we may see vastly different rosters after all the free agents start to sign as well as the draft.

Hockey is garbage, sorry garbage no offense. Espn wont even renew the contract to air their games. Hopefully bush will ban hockey in america.
