The official website (http://www.blizzcon.com/) for Blizzard's first convention, Blizzcon, has come online with location and pricing information.
Tickets will go on sale at a special BlizzCon ticketing Web site at 8:00 am PDT on July 21, 2005. 4,400 tickets will be made available at $120 per ticket, with a limit of four (4) tickets per customer.
I considered going, but at $120 a ticket I might just enjoy three days at Disneyland more...
Editor: What a heist. Anyone with half a brain would know that it's a ripoff.

Interesting. Think Bliz might make some big game announcement here? Maybe finally reveal the details on the first WoW expansion or whether Diablo 3 is really in production?

$125.oo PER ticket!? What is $28 million a month not enough for them? What in god's name could they be doing that is worth $125.oo??

I don't think the four-ticket minumum will be a problem for most people.

Ok if they sell out right away at that price then people are just crazy. I can't think of ANY gaming event that I would pay that much money to attend, not even E3.

$125!?!?!?!
What the FUCK ever, Blizzard! For $125, there had better be booth babes in attendance who are scheduled to service my night time requirements.
Love their games, but that's just... greedy/stupid.

But... Disneyland sucks. I don't even play Blizzard games, but I would sure as hell rather be at Blizzardcon than that hell hole disneyland.
It won't cost me $120 to log on to EA and find out their announcement, so screw them unless there's some nice lapdances involved!
lol QuakeCon = $0 and BlizzCon = $120?!?!?!?
The sad thing is with all thoose Blizzfans out there they can probably sell it out for $300 if they wanted to...
They better get some decent game announcements there like Diablo 3 or even better StarCraft 2. I would be really pissed if I would pay $120 and all I get in new games was an expansion to the dull WoW...
Never been to Disneyland, is it worth it? Might book hotell for a couple of extra days to check it out.
Blizzard has a following that I have a difficult time comprehending. Not that they don't deserve it, it's just so friggin enormous for a company that's done nothing but PC games for the last decade.
In any case, yeah, I wished I lived by PAX or QuakeCon, I'd hit those things up every year. No way I'm paying more than $25 for Blizzcon. Then again I haven't really been into a Blizzard game since Starcraft.

This is fucking insane. I'm a big fan of Blizzard's games, but this is just huge greed. I wonder if Vivendi are part of this? They own the Blizzard brand, after all...
BUY TICKETS NOW FOR ONLY $120 FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY PERSONALIZED BLIZZARD MERCHANDISE! ONLY FOUR TICKETS PER PERSON! NO PUSHING, PEOPLE!
Wow.

Even if they did announce something, the only way I could possibly justify this ticket price is if they would announce that the game/expansion was ready for release and everyone would get a free copy right there at the convention. Otherwise it's just a ripoff, sorry.

Yes, it's a ripoff. Fine. But look at it from their perspective. This WILL sell out. WOW fans from around the WORLD will be flying in. They'll charge as much as they can get away with.
Of course, last time we had exactly 4400 people together, they had returned from the future with strange powers. So that could be interesting.

Mostly true, but arguable, depending on whether or not you count their old console stuff (and their handheld re-releases) as this decade. Also, soon to be not true with Starcraft Ghost, but we can only hope that comes out some time soon.
Rock and Roll Racing, Blackthorne, Lost Vikings and all that were damn good games, but they built their legend on Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo.

The overall audience for console games is much, much bigger than that for the PC...but then again, those gamers are sprinkled across three different systems, each of which has many quality game makers.
On the other hand...I can't think of a PC games who doesn't own at least one Blizzard game, precisely because in the PC arena they have no peer in quality, support, etc. All of PC gamers > a select portion of console gamers (with the exception of things like Halo fans)

Sounds like a fun time to me...
I mean everyone who comes gets to be the first to play StarCraft Ghost, you get a nifty personalized name badge, there's a lan with 300+ computers, a tourny of the best players to watch, and a concert that could have a rad band for all we know. How much does a ticket to a concert ALONE cost these days?
They are only making like 500 thousand if they sell out, so it's not like they are doing it purely for the money. After paying whatever band comes, renting a big ass convention center, getting discounted lodgings for all comers, setting up a 300 plus computer lan, advertising, flying all the tournament goers to the center and giving them prize money, giving out prizes to the regular folk that come... they are probably just breaking even or losing money.
i'm going if I can get that week off. it's gonna be über.

Whoever has the local Mountain Dew concession will probably make more money than blizzard does on the event.
Ill be right on that, as soon as I give a crap about paying 120.00 to see a new expansion that probably wont be playable. And knowing blizzards release history, wont be out till 2007. Thanks but not thanks. This is obviously for people with A) no life or B) People who have money but arent very responsible with it. I can afford to go, but I cant conciously think of spending this kind of money when I can put it towards games or PC hardware. Or maybe what I should do with the money is what the people that are attending this event do, buy some Gold from a website to buy an epic mount in WoW.
Thats my "angry nerd rant" for this year :-p.

Saying that someone has no life because they want to spend a couple hundred bucks to go on a road trip with some friends, instead of buying PC hardware is pretty funny.
not that I have a life. just thought I would point that out.

Walt Disney World is the better of the two, and probably the best Disney Resort. That was one heck of a trip (went with Stuco)
But...the people who are going to this are the people who drop out of college to play WoW. I'm sure they are going to have a blast. My brother's friend actually dropped out of college and became the #1 Anarchy Online player in the world.
The pricing is just crazy though

What game can you play at a 300 person LAN?
How many CS:S servers is that?
I have found LANs tend to suck over a certain size, then they get better when you have a critical mass of people where there is EVERY game being played, but 300 is a bad number.
Oh, and for $120, I want a blow job, and a good one at that.

My favorite LANs are 8 people. You can easily play any game, and 4 on 4 is a dream.
Anyhow, I think it's cool that they are hosting it, and if I had money to burn I'd go, but 120 is a lot for someone as poor (cheap) as me. I'll probably just play WoW that weekend and pretend I'm there.
Why would WOW fans want to do this? WOW is an online game. Maybe if it was a LAN game like CounterStrike or Battlefield that would be one thing but I've never heard of a WOW lan party. What exactly is the advantage of playing WOW next to people you don't know who probably aren't in your same server?
Also if Blizzard wanted to make a big announcement, why wouldn't they advertise it on the page? All I see is a public demonstration for StarCraft Ghost. Who the hell would pay $120 for that?

I'm pretty sure that $120 is a fairly typical price for a two day con/event of some description. It's dirt cheap compared to most business-related cons. $2000 for five days at the GDC anyone? Though to be fair, they do feed you there. So the price isn't as ridiculous as a lot of people think.
On the other hand, $120 for a two day con dedicated to one game developer, who has exactly one current title, one confirmed in development and a few other games that, while still popular online, are still at least three years old.

Only on the internet can people spew out so much my-dick-is-bigger-than-your-dick animosity without looking like a total ass...oh wait.
So what if people want to go to this convention? Maybe it's worth $120 to them. Granted, I'm not one of them, but I don't see a need to call them morons/subhuman just because they're going to be enjoying themselves.
If you've got a problem with the price, that's a valid opinion, but there's no need to belittle other people just so you can show how *much* more intelligent you are.

I do. Costume dayis a very happy day around these here parts. Hmm... we haven't had public costume day in forever!
Here's the big question: Does the covention cover the cost of hotel lodgings? No. So thats $120 a night times three, plus $120 for the convention, plus $86 for two one day passes to disneyland (Which is vastly inferior to Disney World) since the convention information does not list enough things to do to fill up three days. Hmm... nearly $600 without food or flight to attend the convention of a MMO that is not heavily focused on role-playing? No thank you!
Its pretty expenisve, but i bet part of the reasoning for the pricing is scare off the riff raff and little kids. If it were free or cheap, people would just show up to cause trouble and say things like blizzard sux! And then all those 14 year old 1337 Rogues would show up to and it wouldn't be any fun for anyone.

People spend thousands of dollars getting there ab's surgically altered to look stronger, people spend ninety dollars for the collector's edition of a game, and people, god love them, spend billions every year just to use special walkie talkies they call cellphones.
and you are going to call people, god fearing gamers, bonified persons that read websites that only exist to talk about games, along with you... you are going to call them morons for paying to go to a rather large room full of their fellow gamers, to listen to people that make phooking awesome games talk about making those games, and play games with those people, and watch the masters of those games compete, and play a game that has not been released yet... and some stupid concert.... And they are morons for wanting to do that for the price of just two newly released games?
