With Doritos running a "Build-A-Doritos-Game-For-Xbox-Live-Arcade" contest, its just natural to expect some silly ideas. This nice article (http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/08/doritos-unveils.html) from Wired.com goes over the "winning" concepts and wonders what the hell Doritos was thinking and how they plan on having these games developed by November.

If Doritos hoped that actual talented game designers would jump at this chance, they were gravely mistaken. The concepts, which are presented on the site as submitted to Doritos, seem to have come from the same place as all the "game designs" that I came up with when I was 11 -- from the naive, unorganized brains of small children.

Coming up with games featuring Doritos is tough, but seeing the "dodgeball game with a Doritos ad on the scoreboard" making the final cut is a little disturbing.

The last one is the best, a nightmare to program game using a screenshot from a Llamasoft game, oh, and it doesn't involve Doritos in any way.

Too bad they rejected my ideas: "Quest for Diabetes" in which one collected Mountain Dew and Doritos until the character's foot fell off, and "Stoner Surprise" in which you have the munchies after smoking compus amounts of pot, and try to mix Doritos with any random foodstuffs discovered in the House, trying to satisfy the Munchie Meter without vomiting.

"And the lightning bolt CRASHES!"

"Hey old man! What 'cha doin?"
"Well I'm eating a big ol' bag of Doritos!"

That's all I could really think of when it came to Doritos. God these ideas sucked.

I think this Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2007/06/25) pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.

The third catchphrase Tycho comes up with made me laugh harder than just about anything for the last few months.

Why not? :p

Burger King did it; and Sneak King was shockingly....decent.

I think some of those had to be prank jokes that someone at doritos didn't catch the irony inherent and approved them anyway.

So what are the chances of any of these actually getting made, you reckon? I can picture a couple of really terrible 2D flash games on a website somewhere, but surely these guys aren't going to waste a shedload of time and money attempting to do these "designs" "justice".

My money is on these game ideas quietly sinking without trace, and Doritos thinking twice about getting involved in something like this again. That's what I hope for, at least...

What the hell? You have got to be kidding me. In all of the world-wide internets, no one could come up with anything better than that? What has become of gaming...

What has become of gaming...

What has become of gaming?

Are you, in any way, serious?

"Gaming" just ignored this stupid bullshit marketing ploy. It happened just as it should have. I just feel sorry for whoever came up with the idea, well, to a certain degree. I mean, they did come up with the idea.
