Another week, another Weekly Release. By the time this gets posted, I'll be sailing the Caribbean seas!
It's time for the football monopolies to start rolling off the assembly line, first up in NCAA 06. Pirates! also hits the XBox this week and is a DAMN fine game. Not much else gamewise. The Tim Burton remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hits theaters....and to be honest...it looks bad. But I guess we'll see, the previews just look way to silly for me.
See you all in a week!

Every year I say I'm not picking up another year of NCAA and every year I pick it up. I was really disappointed with 2005 (too many dropped passes, among other problems) and had decided I wouldn't not go for 2006. But everything I've read about 2006 is positive. So once again, I will be EA's little whipping-boy and I'll pick up NCAA 2006.
Besides, College football in July? Sign me up. I can't wait until September.
Go Buckeyes!

I havent been able to find the NCAA 2006 Football Title for gamecube. Did I miss the memo or was this quietly done since Cube is considered dead?

Pirates is kind of "meh". A whole lot of hoopla for so little gameplay. It's the same thing over and over again. The original (not the latest PC version) kills this version. I don't know, maybe it's me and these confangled Dragon's Lair style controls. And these "awesome" ship to ship battles, well, a really dumb game from a few years back (Legend of the Black Kat) had MUCH better ship to ship fighting. These ships seem so tiny and boring. As if I'm playing in my bathtub. ;)
and the dancing....egads. It's much more "Pirates of Penzance" then "Pirates of the Caribbean".

The first movie would have had to of been an original idea for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to be a remake.

I had a great time with pirates but it is not a 50 dollar game. Good rental or 20 dollar game. Have you played the old (15year) version lately to make that comment? I have not played it in years but I don't remember it being near as responsive as the new one.
The TV trailers for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sucked, but the longer trailers I've seen in the theater actually give me some hope for it.

I too usually say I won't pick up NCAA Football, but I'm too excited for football season already. I didn't pick it up last year, but I did get it the year before. It is fun, plus with the new Heisman mode, it looks cool. I think it'll be fun to create a guy and import him to Madden (though I'd be so much more excited if NFL 2k6 were a reality).
My question is, if I create a player in NCAA 06, then import him to Madden on my Xbox, what happens with the Xbox 360 comes out and I start playing Madden on there? Can I still import my created guy or do I lose out?

My god, please tell me you're not guaging a movie on trailers.

A "remake" is just a new version of a story that's already been filmed before. It doesn't matter if they're both adapted from another source.

Pirates was ok and did not live up to its hype because you pretty much did the same thing all of the time. Sea Dogs ship battles were great, where as Pirates' ship battles were ho hum. I didn't mind the dancing (then again, I didn't dance everytime).
As to judging movies by their trailers... You must have seen a lot of bad movies then. This version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actually sticks closer to the book then Gene Wilder's version (which was excellent in itself). I look forward to seeing it.

Damn it, but I'm a sucker for pinball games.

I guess you're feeling superior today? I usually don't judge movies by trailers, but the TV trailers did turn me off of the Wonka character. Too much Michael Jackson in him, the tone just seemed wrong.
The theatrical trailers showed that while the creepy pedophile angle was still somewhat there, the overall tone of the character was more like a slightly detached sociopath interested only in the candy business. And that definitely improved on my first impression.

The new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is supposed to be more of a "faithful" recreation of the book (if that's at all possible) rather than a musical like the first.

Not sure what you mean by that, but the new movie is a line-by-line adaptation from the book. At least, that's what I gathered from the cover story in entertainment weekly. At first I wasn't interested as the original movie is one my favorites. But after learning where burton is coming from, its sounding better all the time.

Don't forget the DVD release of A Very Long Engagement. This is the latest movie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the fantastic french filmmaker behind Delicatessen, City of the Lost Children, Amilie, and...um... Alien Resurrection. I've been looking forward to this one for a long time.
FlatOut has been out for ages here in Sweden, great game for sure and its a given at any respectable lan party.

You know... I really want to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it looks like it'll be a good movie to me. But at the same time, I don't want to support that douche-bag Tim Burton...

My god, please tell me you're not guaging a movie on trailers.Uhm yes OF COURSE! Like you don't??? hahaha don't make me laugh.
99 times out of 100 the Trailer will make the movie look BETTER than it actually is. And my 1st impression of the new Chocolate Factory is that it will suck donkey balls.
As if the phrase "don't touch that squirril's nuts!!" is only going to appear in the trailer. get real dude.

Got me. Like I said, this is only from what i read in entertainment weekly. But I was wrong in saying "line-by-line adaptation", but from what I read it is a more accurate adaptation than the original movie, which it seems Dahl was very upset with. Kinda like the LOTR film adaptation.

Right, because Tolkein hated them. At least, that's what Allison Dubois told me.
Go Buckeyes!
Preach on, Brother Pa. The Buckeyes are teh pwn, everyone else is teh suxxorz! Especially that dirty Michigan team to the north.

Oh, and to stay pseudo on-topic: Based on the trailers - and yes, films are judged, in part, from them (why they're a preview of a film......) - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looks like garbage. More faithful re-telling or not, the only person who is and should be Wonka, is Gene. Hey! I have an idea! Lets remake the Wizard of Oz and make Lindsay Lohan Dorthy and, oh I dunno, Paris Hilton as Glinda. It'll be super!
Stop messing with stuff that was amazing to begin with.
