Fry's Electronics has the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack (http://www.outpost.com/entry?site=op:mfe070805&sku=4495566) for only $14.99 + Shipping. Not a bad deal if you were planning to purchase online and pay for shipping anyway.

The new maps are excellent. Just downloaded them last night.

Yeah, the new maps are WAY better than the originals. Well worth the 20 bucks.

But hey, even broke assmonkeys get to have fun in Bungie's world. If you don't have the money, just wait a month and DL the maps for free. Or you can just rent the disc.

Hey kid I remember when maps were free and designed by the community for the community. Course Im a PC gamer and wouldnt taint myself with thinking inside the "box" but hey you wanna settle for less and justify it by all means. A Fool and his money go ahead and spend away Bill Gates needs a new island.

heh, my pals and I were planning on each pitching in a bit for the $20 price, and then distributing the one copy across everyone who has an Xbox... if the map pack works that way. Obviously I don't have it, so I don't know.

I don't see PC gamers up in arms over Blizzard charging 15 dollars a MONTH to play WoW, one game. I also don't see them up in arms over free mods going on to be pay to play only stand alone games.

The PC gamer community is a good training ground for wanna be devs, they are more than happy to give away their work if and only if it leads to paying jobs.

At least with MS's add-on marketplace maps and other items are availible for free after 2 months time. Bungie is an ACTUAL company, not a group of college kids with failing grades. They don't make maps strictly for fun, and neither does the PC mod community. Keep telling yourself that though..... ;)

I hope, for your sake, that a bunch of people don't come in here to whoop your ass over such a generalization. ;)

The fact is, the PC community see's itself as a bunch of selfless do gooders fighting the good fight. Meanwhile the second a publisher waves a fat check in their face they bite down hard.

As a longtime online gamer who played Quake 1 alpha multiplayer test to death, I'm more than happy to drop 10 dollars on 5 new maps for Halo 2. Does that make me a sellout? Or just a satisfied gamer? :D

Quake 1 alpha multiplayer test

Qtest? Hardly alpha.

Seeing as how you're already paying a yearly fee for Live, I think the maps should be free of charge. All downloadable content should be covered as a part of your yearly Live fee.

Speaking of PC games, I already payed $50 for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, now they want more money just to fix the broken gameplay and give me new attractions? How dare they!!! :p

Circuit City is also selling it for $14.99.

The way I see it being able to share the maps and patches with my friends, having a tangible disc and "futureproofing" my Halo 2 multiplayer (I doubt you'll be able to download the content for more than a couple of years) is well worth the money.

And these maps will be free in a couple months...

Nope, the alpha test. It was DM1, DM2 and DM3. ALl you could do is run around in the maps and play with the weapons. It wasnt multiplayer ready, hence it being the alpha version.

Beta was DM1 2 & 3, but with online capability.

Well you see, when paying for Live! you're getting the gamer tag for all games, the ability to d/l free content, voice chat, friends list, and just a great online community in general.

Halo 2 maps were something Bungie had been working on for us to buy, or wait a few weeks and download for FREE. FREE FREE FREE did you see that yet? Yes there are some other content you have to buy, but those devs get paid for it, and the yearly Live! sub goes to MS. Not the devs.

Wait a minute....haven't we all explained this before? Why did I just have to do it again? Maybe I feel sorry for the dumbasses who try to knock down Live! for being an innovator in online console gaming. Yes it irritates me, but am also at work, so that's 2+ irritation and 8+ free time to waste.

So come up with something better zeal.

I do both for the record.

I'm not going to get in on the economcis MMO's...but FFXI and Everquest Online Adventures both have monthly fees.

Let's look at CS>

Yes...you could go by the standalone CS game...but you could also just download CS (they were the same from what I know...both could play together). And CS: Source came free with HL 2 (Condition Zero didn't...unless you got the silver/gold package).

Personally, I probably wouldn't have a problem paying for extra maps I know I would use alot. I play JKA (JK3) alot...and there are a ton of awesome maps done by people with their spare time. Would I pay for them...probably not...but that's because our server doesn't use them 24/7 (I have to change it, which means making sure everyone or the majority wants to change..and change it back if I'm the last person)

However...Raven did release about 5 maps 2 Christmas ago as a free bonus

Yeah, it does work that way. It took me by surprise, because I expected there to be some kind of code you had to enter so that it would only work once. You can and are allowed to copy the maps and patchs onto as many xbox's as you like using the same disc.

In case you are living under a rock, the maps will be free. You just have to wait for it.

Y'know, we should just give up having discussions in these threads and make a cookie cutter statement whenever anything vaguely game-like appears in the news.

Post 1: (game company) is (Choose one: trying to rip us off/making a crap game/laying off people/talking out of their collective asses)!!!11!!

Post 2: Ah fuck off, you just hate (game company)

Post 3: I knew (different game company) before they started fucking us over by (economics-related move). Now I wouldn't give them the time of day.

Post 4: I sure am glad I'm a (Choose one: PC gamer/Console gamer). You guys are suckers.

Post 5: Fuck you, I'm proud to be a (Choose one: PC gamer/Console gamer). If (game company) told me to suck their collective dicks I'd do it.

Post 6: Boy, that (Choose one: Ken Kutaragi/J Allard) is one crazy motherfucker, isn't he?

Post 7: Ah, eat me, (Choose one: Ken Kutaragi/J Allard) is a fucking genius whose boots you are not worthy to lick.

Post 8: At least (game company) isn't Electronic Arts.

I love these maps. Very well constructed maps full of multiplayer goodness. I can't wait for them to be incorporated into the playlists :D

i like some of the new levels. i've been waiting for elongation since H2 dropped, but i'm pretty nonplussed by the rest - apart from turf, which is FANTASTIC. easily the best level by far, i would say. in terms of fun, layout, graphic quality etc.

flame flame flame - u know that 'report bad post' button, does that apply to people who just post flamebait like 'I am a PC gamer... aren't you all impressed?' or equally respond to it?

15 or 10 is reasonable I guess. 20 is not. What irks me more is that it took 8 months to make what, 6 maps?

MrMeatshake

just over a month a map including testing and balancing? are you saying that's good or bad? it sounds pretty amazingly fast to me.
