The first major U.S. video game music concert tour premieres, July 6th, at the Hollywood Bowl! An exciting evening, that is not only for the gamer at heart, but for anyone who appreciates music and immersive live entertainment. It’s also an ideal way to introduce someone to the sounds of a live symphony orchestra.

Mario™, Zelda®, Halo®, Metal Gear Solid®, Warcraft®, Castlevania®, Sonic™, Tron, Tomb Raider®, Advent Rising, Beyond Good & Evil™, Kingdom Hearts, God of War™, Final Fantasy®, EverQuest® II, a special retro arcade segment, and more.

Sounds great, if only I lived in the U.S. More information can be found on their website (http://www.videogameslive.com).

$55? $68 after ticket fees and what not? No thanks. It's a neat idea, and it could be really enjoyable, but that's ridiculous.

I suppose thats how much it'd cost to hire the orchestras and get them to learn the music, not to mention how much it'll be costing in royalties

If only I lived anywhere near LA

EQ2?

And I shudder to think what they'll have for BG&E, maybe that crazy Spanish stuff during races.

I went to the concert at the Hollywood Bowl and I would give it a rating of a 6. Basically, they had a big screen over the orchestra that had game footage as the orchestra played parts of the game score. While the opening of the concert was cool since Hideo Kojima came out to introduce Metal Gear Solid, the middle of the concert was a bit bland since there were soundtracks to games, which weren't as recognizable (Headhunter?). Tomb Raider was played and I didn't even remember the soundtrack to that game. There were some fun pieces though. They had Kingdom Hearts, Medal of Honor, Sonic (which was introduced by it's creator, whose name I can't recall right now), and Mario. The big ending came with Halo.

While I thought the concert was ok, I am glad to see that there were a lot of people there to support the concert. I've always believed that music can help a game a lot so it's nice to see that people came out to show they thought so too.

I've got my tix for the Boston show in August. Even though I'm more of a casual game music fan that a fanatic, I think it is good to support these kinds of shows and the industry. Music is a very important aspect to so many games and I think that these composers should be recognized for their works. An event like this lets the gaming community show their appreciation for the great scores.

To see a sympathy orchestra? Not really.

This is the lamest idea for a concert i've ever heard of.

To see a sympathy orchestra? Not really.I think you mean "symphony orchestra," but "sympathy" might be the correct term in this case :)

I'm very impressed that they're doing BG&E music. I'd also love to hear Castlevania done by a big orchestra. Not to mention MGS and Halo and those sorts of already-symphonic tunes.

With the exception of Linkin Park, I agree. Some game soundtracks are very good, but did you see the plans for the stage? It's like a dark altar of geekiness lit with flashing strobe lights and with an embarrased orchestra in the middle of it all.

I say meh.

On a almost related note, I would so love for Asian Kung Fu Generation to play a show around here.

This is seriously stupid.

Ok, time to cough up reasons. WHY is it a bad idea? Why is game music inferior to all others?

Game music is like movie music, it is supposed to compliment the film or game.

It's like sexy underwear without a girl to go in them, you can imagine the girl in them, but it doesn't stand up as strong on it's own.

Videogame music is also designed to be repititve for the most part as you hear the music many times over the course of a game.

I have some music from games on my computer. Most of it does not stand on it's own. At best, it brings back memories of the game... like the title screen for Halo.

I'd vote for Star Control 2 music - for a rave.

I'll be damned before I buy my overpriced ticket from clear channel. Or any ticket for that matter.

Then you have no appreciation of what sound can do. Great music conjures up its own imagery, it's when that image and the game you are playing match perfectly, it becomes something special.

The problem with music in this age, people mostly hear it, at best listen. But great music is experienced.

There will be screens showing gameplay at points.

I've already been to a better video game music concert. I saw The Advantage live at a local venue for 6 dollars. Can't beat that, even with a symphony orchestra.
