Cooking Mama, Majesco's quirky culinary simulator for the DS, is a bona fide hit.

Next-Gen is reporting (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6837&Itemid=2) that Majesco has shipped over 500,000 copies of the game. Those numbers are enough to earn the title a sequel, Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends, and a Wii version called Cooking Mama: Cook Off as well.

Coming soon - Cooking Mama: Gordon Ramsay edition, in which your goal is to make Mama cry herself into an asylum and Cooking Mama: Rachel Ray edition, in which you try to hone your perkiness until it reaches critical mass and explodes, killing us all.

On the subject of rachel ray, has anyone else noticed that her usual perkiness has elevated into something downright unholy in the past few months?

I can't even handle 30 minute meals anymore.

I used to think that Emeryl Live was the most painful show to watch on Food Network, but 30 Minute Meals may have taken the cake.

As for cooking mama, I'm surprised it's selling so well. I played the demo and it didn't really seem all that fun to me. I'd love to see a really well made cooking game though. Maybe the sequel will be better.

It's probably due to the truckloads of money she's been raking in lately.

Cook Off sounds fun. . . like Iron Chef.

Hahaha, i like the ramsay edition...
There can be a minigame... try to see how many swear-words you can use before the chicken is cooked

Seriously, i'm with you. When she was newer and nobody knew who she was, it was much better. Now I just want to F her mouth to shut her up.

Side note, I love the Food Network. Best shows, imo, are Iron Chef, Boy Meets Grill, Throwdown, Dinner: Impossible.

I got this game for my girlfriend because it sounded like something she would like, but we were disappointed to find you don't really go through the process of making a meal. Instead you complete under 1 minute minigames for each of the "stages" involved in cooking the meal and there is a jarring "stage complete" screen for each which really ruins any of the meal's flow.

Also, Mama's engrish is annoying.

I don't know, taking this image from a smash brothers thread that Destoo posted in, I can only assume that Mama might be able to dish it back out at Ramsay. :D

On topic though, I have yet to play the title. Something keeps putting me off from picking it up. There's always another game that I'd rather spend my money on I suppose.

BLAVO!!!!!

The game is OK, the Wii version is definitely not worth the price of admission, though.

The DS version was alright for the first few little games, but the Wii version was down right HORRIBLE. It was a cooking abortion of a grand magnitude.

See, I didn't find it that bad. It wasn't a great game, but there's only one motion that I have trouble getting right - most reviewers claimed they couldn't make the game work at all.

The basic idea of Cooking Momma is cool, but the presentation was too "Barbie doll" for my tastes... felt like I was playing a girls game. If they ever made a Iron chef game on the DS or Wii I might check it out.

Also, yeah Rachel Ray is annoying as hell. "Hi everyone! I"m Rachel Ray AND TODAY I'M GOING TO BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!" God she makes me want to drive cork screws into my ears whenever she's on TV. I can't change that channel fast enough.

Well, duh, but still the fact that they've had sales to the point where they've had to manufacture and sell 500,000 is pretty impressive and indicative of success. There's no way that the 500K was the initial print run.

The stylus usage isn't bad, but it's a definite rental rather than a buy. It's quite easy, there's no flow to it and it's just not that involving.

You mean BIG TEETH. That woman has the largest mouth and teeth I've ever seen, it's like god had an obnoxious moment while creating Giada.

I got drunk and started playing Lost in Blue 2 last night.

Whaddya know, it has a Cooking Mama minigame. After playing that for a few hours, I have no desire for the real thing.

Ugh, Rachel Ray! She always tastes her dishes and makes a huge show of going "Mmmmm, that's soooo delicious." Like you'd retch and spit it out on camera even if it was a big bowl of cold crap.

I like Cooking Mama, and my young cousin does too. :) I do prefer the Wii version - good to hear there will be another one.

I too would like to see a Gordon Ramsey edition. Mama could take him.

I think she was our waitress once. I remember because my wife said "You know, it would be nice if you looked up at her head once in a while." I did answer honestly by saying "She has a head?!?!". I found out that sleeping in bus shelters is hard on the back.
