I hope for their sake all this effort is worth it. This quote is a translation from Russian, if you are wondering why it is a little off:In two words, to sum up an ICQ chat: when the plot is fully implemented (it is being completed), the simulation will be finally tuned. This is what the team is doing right now.
The game will certainly not come out this year.
Look for the beginning of the wide advertising campaign, as it will mean half a year until the release.Source. (http://stalker.myexp.de/en/index.php?site=newscomment2.php&id=1847)
I bet the game's archvillan ends up wielding the powers of a time travelling sword to make human burgers.

and i was just heading over to the official forum for my weekly "is there any new news about stalker? no? damn"...
i was out of computer gaming for a while (my last system was a 200mhz pentium to put things into perspective) so two feb. ago when i built my current system i started looking in to all the new and upcoming games.. came across this one and have been dying to get my hands on it since then. it seemed to fit what i wanted in a game perfectly...
i guess i'll just hafta go back to far cry... hdr enabled of course :)

I hope the game starts without an FMV or any background, and leaves you inside a coffin after your archvillain (Still no background) drops you in a swamp... or something. Oh, and there has to be frogs and weapons that are more dangerous to you than the enemies.
this really is ridiculous. Then again since we seem to be reaching a plateau in terms of graphics quality, a game with two-year old graphics isn't as big a deal as it was in say 1998.

Never thought I'd say this, but those guys really need a domineering publisher riding them. Maybe then they'd finish the damned thing.

The original screenshots looked amazing back when they first got released. These days I look at the the new screenshots and I'm no longer amazed.
Let's hope they at least get the gameplay right, it's a more important factor anyway.

I think it was a year ago or maybe it was 2 now that they leaked an E3 alpha. I got my hands on that and played it for a while. Graphics were nice and it played pretty smooth on my hardware then. I hear there's vehicles in this game so I'll be looking forward to it, epecially if there are flying vehicles.

Man, I used to be really excited about this game. It just doesn't look that exceptional anymore, though. Too bad.

Hey hey, it's just a little late.
It's still good.
It's still good.
It's looking just "on par" for a release this year, but next year it'll be "old news".

Don't know what is the big deal about STALKER. Beautiful graphic doesn't always translate to great game.
Highly overrated.

It wasn't overrated 2 years ago, since it looked incredible and sounded like it had great gameplay. But yeah, it's getting a bit late for this one.
Hell, I'm still gonna pick this up at any rate.
I'm glad that they're holding off on releasing a game this big, look at Atari's Boiling Point - it had only half the scope of Stalker in mind and it was released in a totally unusable fashion.
They better not screw this up mind you, this game looks god-damned beautifull.

The impressive thing about Stalker was never the graphics, except for the immature CS kiddies. It was the scope - which is still fairly impressive, but not as much as planned in upcoming games.
Daikatana promised a lot, but never showed any signs of delivering during its production.
Stalker, at the very least looks like an extremly confident game.
