Believe it! Apparently this is Gas Powered Games' very first attempt at a storyline. If they suck, at least there's a pathetic excuse.
So what do you think? (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/supreme-commander/631067p1.html)
In Supreme Commander, three factions vie for galactic supremacy (of course) in a backstory designed to produce maximum carnage (!!!).
Now see the screenshots and concept art (http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/755/755287/imgs_1.html).
The designs are not very 29th century, but they get the killing done.

I'd like to think by the 29th century, we'd be done with all the killing.
Edit: Aside from that, if I was killing someone in possibly, let's say, the 22nd century, this looks like the way to do it.
Edit Edit:
"Now, there is a whole timeline from present-day Earth to more than 1,800 years into the future."
Wouldn't that make this game take place in the 39th century? .... 21st + 18....yup, 39th.

Yes, I was being ironic.
It's a rarity RTS ever succeeds in telling a good story. The reason Starcraft succeeded for the most part is because it's not about killing a whole lot of enemies (MP offline), rather it's about the struggle of various characters for change.
In Supreme Commander, even the supposedly enlightened Aeon submits to the "convert or die" frame of mind, which is just mindblowing to me.
Let's hope it's the work of John Keefer's bad writing.

Umm...C&C. The original nailed it. Red Alert as well.
Don't forget GAS Powered Games made Dungeon Siege as well...that game had a story...though not a very good one.

That game look very yummy.
Games are getting so detailed now.I only just noticed the submerged subs
I've looked through all the shots and it looks like you have subs, warships, mechs, tanks and even nuclear weapons. I saw 3 pictures with a big nuke dropped and on of the screens it was zoomed far out so all your units was very very small.
LOL, Even far off into the future you can't beat a nuke :D
Obviously you'll never see or use any of these units online vs another player cos he will just rush you in the first 2 minutes of the game with 587 cyborg villagers:p
Who cares about the story, It TA2! Been waiting years for this. I love the walking bot transporter. I hope they keep the bot debris like in the first one, it was a real good way of slowing rush attacks.

*Wipes tear from eye*
It's so beautiful. How could any game be better than this?
*Starts to cry*
This will be fucking awesome.
Glad to know the mastermind behind a few of my favorite games is behind it too, it just wouldnt be TA without him.

Really? I loved Starcraft's gameplay, of course, but the main draw for me and most of my friends was the story. To this day Starcraft boasts two of my favorite videogame characters of all time. And I'm not aching for a sequel because I want to see how they'll mess up the gameplay, that's for sure -- it's because I want to see a continuation of the story.
Maybe I'm part of the minority. *shrug*

Drop-dead gorgeous. Let's hope it plays as good as it looks, cuz I want me some destruction!
Just in case you didnt know, Ron Gilbert from Lucasfilm (yeah from back then) worked on the first Total Annihilation game.

Wasn't he with Humongous Entertainment, which was a GT Interactive label, which published Total Annihilation? I can't remember well at all, but I think he either helped Chris Taylor to get published, or Chris went to him for help.
Edit:
Looked it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Gilbert
Gilbert was also the founder of Cavedog Entertainment and the producer of Total Annihilation.
Also it'd be nice if they rereleased the original Total Annihilation. Believe it or not that game still looks great and now virtually anyone can run it at high resolution with thousands of units swarming around the screen.

"OMFG monsters killed my parents, you bastards! I'll kill you all now, while slowly gathering up a party of my own!" The end.
What's great about this is that Uwe Boll can't possibly screw up the story in his movie.

I think that is someone about to reap Total Annihilation at a tug of war contest. With Mr. Tonoffun on their team, they can't possibly lose.
Which reminds me to make sure I have tons of fat soldiers in TA2 when it comes out...

I would have written how kick ass that Total Annihilation is coming out, but a picture can say more than any words I can type out.
