A few days ago we reported (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34053) that Blockbuster is going to begin selling and trading games. It looks like the big blue and yellow is looking to kick off this program with a bang. I just received a coupon via email for $10 off ANY version of Madden NFL 08. According to the terms of this coupon it was given to Blockbuster Online members and it is only valid August 14th and 15th.

How would you rate Blockbuster's chances against Gamestop?

As a seller of games? No chance of course but this is just them dipping their toes into a few different businesses to try and get solvent. They have the rental business locked up with both movies and games but they are still not doing well. Bad management I guess.

I don't buy used games unless new versions aren't made anymore. so blockbusters new selection is terrible. Used games at blockbuster are extremely expensive compared to game stop. I'm not sure about used console price differences. even if blockbusters consoles were cheaper when i said to myself i feel like buying a used XYZ i wouldn't think to go to blockbuster before a game stop. Thats just my opinion though. I do have a blockbuster with the special game store built in a mile away FYI.

Weird that only now they've started selling games. Here in Aus, most Blockbusters have a GamesRush inside them. Pretty shitty shop though. I'm sure Blockbuster in the States won't be much better.

blockbusters turned into gamerush about a year or so ago here, i dont know exactly whats new. Although not all blockbusters have this upgrade.
Not a bad way to get new members. If I were in the states right now I would consider becoming a member of Blockbuster just to get the discount. How much does a membership cost anyways? I also think they should have sent out this promotion earlier. Most people who are looking to get Madden when it launches already have it preordered.

$10 off, and you have to pay what? $5-10 bucks to be a member? Basically, new people signing up save a grand total of crap! Unless their membership fees are even more expensive than that...

Depending on the plan they range from $9 to $18 for a membership, so no real discount if you're planning on joining for the coupon... that and you wouldn't get the coupon since it already went out.

Well I pay $17 a month for unlimited online rentals, plus 3 free in store rentals. Plus the ability to exchange in store.

And Gamefly and Netflix members still laugh at this. I got oblivion from Gamefly for 45 bucks a week after launch, it was awesome.
