EA will make a statement (http://bf1942.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=8659) before 12.00 PST/21.00 GMT+1 today about what they are going to do with the Battlefield 2 server problems.
There are two options:
Complete rollback to the previous version 1.0, however all users running version 1.01 are a big issue. EA doesn't know whether the patch can be rolled back. Maybe the game has to be re-installed...
Small fix to solve the memory leak problem
There are several problems however, including the fact that DICE guys are on summer vacation...
Lets hope for solution 2... Or maybe EA will just stall the matter until after the holidays?
Editor: If the DICE guys are on shore leave, then you gotta wonder who made this patch to begin with.
UPDATE: EA has now begun testing a server fix (http://bf1942.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=8671).

What a cluster f*ck.
Still, I HAVE been enjoying playing lately, and actually haven't noticed any server reboots or anything. I even think I fragged Evil himself earlier tonight!

Summer Vacatation?
I always suspected EA used child labor to produce their wares, but I never conceived that they would get benefits such as vacation.
Back to work! (whipcrack)

sigh...I love this game so much but it's so hard to get past all it's failings. Oh well, I guess I will play the happy, patient gamer and see what they can do with this.

How frustrating. The game is fun, but not great IMO. I think I'll return it to EB for store credit. EA is really getting on my nerves. I think others agree. Rushed a product to market again. Shows their concern for PC gamers.
EA, Pack Sand!
I absolutely love this game. Until it lags. Or crashes. Or takes 10 minutes to load a map.
Most of that happens 80% of the time. The rest of the time, I have a blast...
@The news poster: I believe that is why the patch is t3h suxor...
Well I was planning buying this game at the end of my summer class but now I think I will wait or buy a Nintendo DS. I played the demo and I hated the loading times to see the servers list. Is this still a problem??

I just installed the patch last night. I think the server browser is still rather clunky but at least it didn't crash on me and I seemed to be able to scroll through the list faster. As for the loading times, nothing seems to have changed.
If they roll back the patch I am not going to be happy at all. It took me like an hour and 3 tries to install the game with the CD version and I really don't feel like doing that crap again.

You know, if I made some new gadget for my boss and then went on vacation as they rolled out that new product, only to find it was flawed beyond reason, I expect I would be getting a call from my boss the next day saying to get my ass back to work and fix my POS.

Well I can see I made the correct decision in not giving Electronic Arts a dime of my money.

Yeah but in the games industry your boss, EA, was most likely the one who told you when it was done in the first place and was also the one who tested to make sure it was done.

I understand that DICE has been working on this game for a long time, and probably deserves some time off, but you just can't go on vacation with a multiplayer shooter like this shortly after the release when there are going to be more problems than ever in the game's lifespan. Things needing hotfixes in a multiplaer shooter shortly after release? It's not exactly unheard of.
And who the hell made the patch to this game then? Some dewds at EA?

The good news is that All-Seeing Eye was able to make it so you can use their app to connect to non-passworded servers. But they need a little more cooperation from DICE to get it to work with passworded ones.

DICE didn't go on summer vacation until friday, and the patch was done with QA before that. From my BF modding days I have a friend at DICE that made Karkand and Sharqi.

Sweden shuts down in August. The government gives a month paid to every working-age person and they reimburse for airline tickets when you go visit another country. So, everyone takes off. I would too.
Besides, this means everyone can take some time to play assault in CS: Source!
Wow... fuck EA... ....on one hand they have stories posted about the way they abuse employee's by NOT giving them time off. Then they give employees a vacation and they are wrong for not revoking the vacation to come fix something. I have a feeling that no matter what EA does there are going to be some people who are hating them just to hate.
As far as BF2. I don't play for hours at a time... ..I can usually get in a good hour before having to log off for some reason or another.... ...I have not experienced a lot of the problems probably because of this. The game is fun, but just ok fun for me 90% of the time. The only time it is really fun is if you can get a team that really works together.

What I don't get is this -- With the current state of PC games always needing a patch within 2 weeks of their release -- why not tell the Dev team their vacation (which the deserve) starts 1 month after the game is released?

Your friend made the two best maps and the reason people put up with all this bullshit. I could play those maps all day long.

Your friend is a gaming god. Those two maps put Sid Meier and John Carmack to shame! To shame!
