The details of an Xbox 360 price drop in Canada have been confirmed, and it is good news for the Canucks:
* Xbox 360: CDN $399.99
* Xbox 360 Core System: CDN $299.99
* Xbox 360 Elite: CDN $499.99
* Xbox 360 HaloŽ 3 Special Edition Console: $449.99

Press Release at Xbox.com. (http://www.xbox.com/en-ca/community/news/2007/0806-consoleprice.htm)

Premiums and Cores drop by $100, Elites by $50. Seems Microsoft is actually adjusting the price to reflect the improvements in the Canadian dollar.

So if I were to go to Canada, and exchange money, and buy a 360 (premium), would it cost more or less?
I'm to lazy to do the work myself.

canadian $ vs. us $

399.99 = 379.4971
299.99 = 284.6475
499.99 = 474.3288
449.99 = 426.8950

hope this helps

Using the Premium price:
$399.00 CDN = $378.57 USD
So, still slightly more than the $349 USD the Premium costs in the US, but much closer than it was.

Games? Just wait! 99% of games come down in price within a year or two at most. Only a select few go up in value. Usually, those are Atlus games! ;)

Now the Core is only $10 more than a Wii, hmm.. how will Nintendo respond.

This is why they're keeping the Core. I think that's a good decision.

We dont have Circuit City up here in the north.

From what Ive heard, 99% of the time its no big loss. That promo would have been nice to get on. Right now, Microsoft is screwing Canadians as if the currency exchange on points was closer to 40%, unlike the 5% it actually is.

I am pretty certain that Raleigh would be very different from your pre-conceived notions of "the South".

Also, Canada's only important export was Rick Moranis.

I really don't think the US and Canada are that much different, except you guys have George Bush (either one of them) so that gives Canada the edge. He is ruining your country, and its sad. What happened to all those WMD's?

LOL, I'm beginning to like you. I didn't intend to make a anti-US statement. I like the US, it is the home of the NFL therefore it is a very close 2nd to Canada. Canada football isn't as good IMHO, I only watch it to get pumped for the NFL season.

But seriously how different are Canada and the US? I mean really?

100 Canadian dollars off a premium is nice, but is this really that much better than the 360 premium + Gears + Graw deal for 450 last fall? I'm thinking that if we wait till near Christmas we might see some sub 400 deals, or 400 with a game.

NightRain

It is also worth noting that for over a year the Xbox 360 in Canada has been a bundled deal. With a new bundle each season. For example they have the COD3 Bundle with COD3 and Premium system. They also had the Core Bundle which was the Core with Kameo and Project Gotham 3. The last Holiday (December) Bundle was GRAW & Live Arcade Unplugged with Premium. They had a PGR3 with 1250 points and 3 months Live with Premium. Current Bundle is Forza 2 and Premium. This has always been done to compensate for the exchange rate changes. It is unclear if these bundles will continue to come out with the new price, but I have personally confirmed that starting this week the current bundles will drop to $399, so you'll get the Premium system with Forza 2 for $399, that is a steal. You may still find some other bundles in stock too, I saw a COD3 one just a few weeks ago. I also saw some of the Core bundles yesterday at a Wal-Mart. I was told by someone at Walmart the new Core price will be $298.83 and that includes Kameo and Project Gotham 3. Nice deal, get a used HDD at EB for $45 and you're pretty set.

Read my above post, it will be $400 with a game this WEEK. Or $300 with 2 games if you get a Core bundle.

Actually I was just talking to someone who bought the 360 with Forza 2 at Futureshop last week for $499 and it came with 3 free games. Hitman 2, Splinter Cell Double Agent, and World Series of Poker. He plans on getting the $100 refunded as soon as the price updates. So some people will get the 360 Premium with 4 games for $400 here in Canada.

How long does the price protection last? I bought my best man a 360 as a wedding party gift ( he... was the extent of my wedding party, so I could afford to go a bit crazy ). That said, I wouldnt mind a 100$ back if they have price protection!

30 days at most retailers. If you get the $100 back don't tell the wife, you and the best man should have a meal and a few drinks.

I didn't know the game bundles were not common across the continent. We've been getting game bundles with the 360 up here for almost a year now. 399 CDN for Premium + Forza is a hot deal, assuming this bundle (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10089279&catid=23383) drops in price tomorrow.

Really it's only $25 more than the Elite. Best Buy (Canada) has a $25 off a PS3 coupon. So really the console can be purchased for $524.99 + tax (60 gig).

The US dollar is worth about $1.05 in Canada, give or take. But you'll likely be charged more tax depending what province you go to. Retail tax in BC, for example, is 13%.

I too am glad to see MS adjust the price to reflect the stronger Canadian dollar. It's about fucking time. Now all MS has to do is get quality hardware to market and drop the Xbox Live fee and I may jump on board.

Nice, that's only $602.6 for a system, now just add another $80.50 for a single game to go with it. Wow, $683.10 for the cheapest PS3 and a single game, what a bargain!

TOO CHEAP.

I'm still glad I got my Premium for $239 with that EB deal a few months back but if I hadn't picked it up then, I'd probably spring for it now.

I agree with the game and accessory costs. It is sickening when the games drop so steeply after a while but even so, it's still $69 + tax which here in Ontario makes a new 360 game cost just shy (pennies shy) of $80 each. No wonder I'm hesitant to run out and buy games sight unseen for the system.

And Serapth is right. It's very annoying to pay $31.50 for 2000 points.

Here's the rundown on the 4 models:
(Elite, Halo, Premium, Core, respectively)
(Assuming 0.95 CAD to 1.00 USD)
(Also, all numbers, except for the first column, are in USD, since most of you are probably americans)
CAD CAD in USD US price Canadians pay $X (USD) more
500 475 450 25
450 427.5 400 27.5
400 380 350 30
300 285 280 5

Of course, this doesn't take into account sales taxes.
Wikipedia tells me that most americans pay 7% or less.
Well, here in Canada unless you live in Alberta or Saskatchewan, you pay %13 or more.

CAD in USD plus 13% USD plus 7% Canadians pay $X+ more (USD)
536.75 481.5 55.25
483.075 428 55.075
429.4 374.5 54.9
322.05 299.6 22.45

there you have it.

The price of admission is $50 US higher for Canadians than Americans. With the exception of the Core, but who really wants that?

Good numbers. Though applying taxes isn't really applicable, as that exists for all purchases in Canada and is something we simply live with.

There's also import costs (for shipping and processing at the border), so I can understand a certain bump. For the remaining ~$15 diff, I always just count that as the "screw you non-American" price we pay on most products. I'm quite happy with the price change.
