View Full Version : Xbox 360 System Update

Those of you firing up your 360's this morning for a little pre-breakfast gaming might notice a new dashboard/system update is available. What does it do? Well according to Major Nelson (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/08/07/xbox-360-system-update-august-07.aspx), not much really. It just "adds support for wireless guitars."

Microsoft always talks about how secure they want their wireless signal to be, and this seems to add some credence to that. Perhaps every device has some sort of private key loaded in the Xbox 360's firmware to allow it to sync up with the system. Either way...I can' t wait to melt faces (http://www.bapenguin.com/?p=245)...wirelessly.

Well I'll be damned. never knew if this was happeneing for sure, based on MSoft's crazy protectiveness with their wireless stuff. Hooray for wireless!

Shitty.

Was hoping they addressed the fuckup they introduced in the spring update. To this date, when I sign in to Xbox Live or wireless, if I dont wait a couple minutes until after the console has been on, it will time out, then go to the diagnostic screen, which when I cancel, will then "hang" for a good minute, before spiting me back to the dashboard... then it friggin signs me in!!! But not really signed in, as I dont get and messages or friends online, but I have to then sign out and sign back in again and it all works like magic. God its irritating.

Up until the last update, this stuff had worked flawless.

Serapth, this is not the normal bi-annual update. That is still to come. Keep your hope alive.

But I cant. Read the Xbox Live EULA. The last line:

Abandon all hope ye who enter.

... don't want to break the EULA.

Just buy another 360. They're cheaper now. Oh wait, that's for the U.S. only. Sorry.

Nothing to do with security. Bluetooth was considered to laggy and not good enough (interference). That is the reason why they chose their "own" wireless implementation.

Actually, for reasons I can quite put into sane thoughts, I kinda want an elite. I have always hated white appliances ( fridges, iPods, iMacs you name it, white just isnt practical! ).

Dont want an elite to the tune of 400$ though...

To EB? Fuck no, they would give me like 30$, the theiving bastards.

Or I could try and sell it privately, but with quality concerns, it would probrably be a hard sell. Most people would be very suspicious.

Oh, I thought you traded/sold for one. Guess im mixing you up.

I want to hear an elite, as thats my only real beef with my 360 ( other then the problem im describing in this thread ). If its more quite, I really want one. Im not really worried about quality/defects, as frankly I have never had a console go bad on me.

yeah that's why i didn't want to sell my premium and get an elite. it works now, but i'd feel bad if it bricked in a month, warranty or not. i just won't chance it.

have you tried backing up your saves and whatnot to a memory card and formatting the hdd?

No... I have no memory card, and seems like a kinda expensive thing to "try".

yeah when i was having some issues earlier this year the guy on the phone told me the first step was to buy a memory card and see if the problem persisted, and if so to reformat the drive. it actually worked, but it kinda annoyed me that i had to spend whatever (i bought a used one, was pretty cheap) to fix my system.

I'm hoping this is a sign that MS has backed off on its wireless requirements and that the pack-in guitar with the 360 version will now be wireless and not wired. (Pre-order listings indicated that it would be wired and that the wireless version would be sold at a higher cost, which Harmonix has said is due to a MS requirement that forced them to add additional circuitry).

Remember Bap, the Live Vision WebCam gives you a bonus for recognizing how hard you ROCK IT! :D Now you can stage dive off your couch for a super sweet bonus, without the tangled mess of wire ;)
