The latest BF2 patch that was released yesterday seems to have caused more trouble than it fixed, especially for servers. (http://bf1942.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=8649)Server admins are reporting that the game now has huge memory leaks. The exact figures vary but some Windows servers are reported to lose 500 MB of memory after running a server for 2-3 hours meaning that they could be crashing fast. A standard BF2 dedicated server usually takes up 150 to 170 MB of RAM. Although we don’t have any exact figures, the Linux servers don’t seem to lose huge amounts of memory, but they are affected, too.
Ooops!

There seem to be bad Punkbuster issues on some servers also.

Dice sure showed all those people complaining about the lack of the bugged IFF fix. That'll teach them to complain about such silly things. ;)

I was kicked a few times last night because of Punkbuster.

Punkbuster is worst than aids, it really rapes a game badly :( why did they go with PB? :(

Make sure you update your punkbuster from the punkbuster website using their PBWEB application.
Server browser's buggy too.

*cries* Must play BF2! Bring back my pseudo-stability! :(
Odd. This patch made things a lot better for me, the menus were quicker and the game browser worked fine after I clicked "update server list". The game itself ran fine and I played on the same server for about 5 hours.
However, the IFF bug is still there, as someone else mentioned. Combine that with the TK punishment system and you still have a huge problem (although it seems to happen less than before the patch).

It starts. Nearly every online game where one patch broke it has gone down in the annals of gamedom as a buggy mess that was never fixed. For instance, Tribes 2.

This is really frustrating- if any other publisher put this game out (ok well maybe not Atari) BF2 would have trumped every multiplayer FPS out today, instead we have to suffer with the crap-house that is EA. I just hope Ubisoft never gets acquired.
