Joystiq brings us word (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/daikatana-to-bless-gametap-on-september-6th-someone-edit-and-pu/) that GameTap's upcoming games listing contains a little-known nugget of joy from Eidos' lineup: Daikatana is coming (http://www.gametap.com/home/play/gameDetails/000143750?sys=mac) September 6th.

Anyone else thinking that John wishes he had never agreed to that marketing slogan? ;)

Heh. I've still got old PC Gamers with those ads in it. Always good for a laugh.

Hehe. I actually kinda (don't read into that too much!) liked this game. So I reloaded a saved game like yesterday. Superfly was stuck on something walking in place. I recall 2 years ago when I last fired up this game having the exact same problem.
Maybe in 2 more years I'll reload that game yet again.

I have Daikatana unopened in the original box. I paid 99 cents for it out of the bargin bin at EB games. I keep it in my office at home. It really is the ultimate POS PC game next to
Battlecruiser 3000AD. The diffrence being that Ion Storm spent 26 million dollars of development money making Daikatana.

Gametap was doing so well there for a while...
:D
(I'm still glad I have it.)

I have no doubt that he did. But I'm sure he wished he hadn't.

$10 says it's release date is repeatedly delayed.

Satan,
26 million!?!?! I had heard 7 million. Sheesh.
They should release the code. A few fixes and it might be ok. Cheesy, cliche extreme, but playable.
Scaling all the levels by 1.5 and doubling the bad guys would probably turn it from a frustrating exercise in self damage to a gib fest.
Some other guy might have invented the phrase but Romero's stuck with it. Hell, he should make a silly movie where he parodies himself and the times. If well done gut stitches would be needed.

Actually, it was probably closer to $6 million. They spent $20 million on the office! Any ex-Ion folks could probably give a better figure, but it was a LOT of money.
And it was sweeeeeet, at least at first. Man, they threw some awesome parties! :D
If there's one thing I can recommend to anyone--find yourself a total bonfire of a company, and work next to them. It's fun as hell as they rise, and fucking entertaining as they go down. ;)

Yep, and he's continuing his proud tradition with GameCock.

I think that all us Gametap members will be playing it as a purely academic exercise. I will beat it and my new sig shall read "Still NOT John Romero's Bitch!"

I don't think it can be done. Game is so broke I don't think it canb be finished.
Man, the flamewars over Daikatana were epic. I don't think we'll ever have that much fun on the internets again. Arguing for YEARS about whether the game was gonna suck or not, then whether it did suck or not, then whether everyone decided that it sucked because they hated Ion Storm, and not because it really sucked.
People really really cared passionately about that, for some reason. The hardcore fanboys were absolutely some of the most rabid SOBs I've ever read. Daikatana was gonna sell NINETY BRAZILLIAN COPIES and all the haters would cry and kill themselves, and they would RULE THE EARTH because they kept the faith all along, and weren't sheep who just went along with the anti-hype.
And then it landed with a thud and everyone went away quietly.

Yeah, no kidding.

The PlanetDaikatana message boards were a hilarious read for awhile.
And believe it or not, there's still an online community for it! (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/71554-Free-Daikatana-Deathmatch-Mod-Released)

So........ is the game really really that bad?
If it's just a simple quake engined run and gun game that is just "meh", then it might be worth an afternoon muckin' around.
The artwork for it is sort of okay.
