Here's a pretty big announcement that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere at this point. Direct from the horse's mouth (http://www.gametap.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=4102&tstart=0):
GameTap, the first-of-its-kind broadband entertainment network from Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.), announced today an expanded partnership with Codemasters that now includes multi-year exclusive North American rights for their new titles to be featured in GameTap’s subscription service, as well as for purchase online, both day and date with retail release.
As part of this expansive deal, GameTap will feature Codemasters’ recently released 2007 games including the critically acclaimed DiRT™ and Overlord™ as well as a selection of upcoming titles including Clive Barker’s Jericho™ and Turning Point™: Fall of Liberty, in both the subscription service and on the ad-supported website on an exclusive basis. Codemasters’ games will also be sold in GameTap’s new online digital retail storefront.
This is really cool news for those of us with GameTap accounts. I'm really not sure why this news hasn't gotten more attention as the press release is a couple of days old now.

Cool?
I don't get the use of the word "exclusive" in...

What is exclusive about it, if it's also coming out in retail, and being out for digital purchase at the same time?
Still good news for Gametap subscribers, though.

I had heard Overlord was available on GameTap, which surprised me since I thought nearly all of GameTap's stuff was just older games. Good news for them. Never tried the service, but I've considered it. Maybe I'll check it out now that it's been around for a while and is establishing itself as a nice gaming portal.

I could have sworn there was a thread about this before, but I can't seem to find it. This is really exciting news. I have really been wanting to play Overlord and DiRT, so this is awesome.

They're probably talking about exclusivity for digital distribution, from my reading. i.e., any titles going on GameTap likely won't be coming to Steam.

I used both the in-site search and a google site: query before posting it. I couldn't believe it wasn't just that I had missed it, either.

This sounds like a pretty sweet deal, especially the ad-supported option. I'm pretty sure that "ad-supported" = "free", correct? If so, awesome! If someone had told me 5 years ago that I could play Codemasters games for free, after downloading them from the internet, I would have laughed in their faces. Oh, how I would have laughed.

They'll probably work like the current free titles do on GameTap - they'll be rotated into a selection of games from the library that are free for a limited amount of time before being rotated out for something else. Subscribers get access to the entire GameTap library at any time.

I signed on in november (last year) because of sam and max and Uru ... now we're getting some high-profile "next gen" games!

WOOT!

(btw: the total games count is 937)

Once Overlord hits I am re-upping. I cancelled after the last Sam and Max episode. With Overlord, Fall of Liberty, and Tomb Raider on there Gametap will once again pay for itself.

I was actually really, really surprised how good the new Tomb Raider game is. It's a title I'd never have even given a chance if it weren't on GameTap.

It's a shame us British folks can't get in on the paid GameTap act, but the free selection is still available. The prospect of free games is just too tempting; just having to view the odd advert really doesn't phase me at all.

Anyway, that's my view on GameTap itself, as for Jehrico, DiRT and Overlord for free? Well... I better make some extra space on my Hard Disk, eh?

I seriously can't express how much I love Gametap. When I saw Overlord a week or so ago, I shat my pants and then realized I love Gametap even more than ever. By golly, if they keep up at this pace, it may just break my of my MMO addiction fully. I quit WoW sometime ago and signed up for Gametap, because I didn't have any stuff to play and I'm loving it. I may not even bother with AoC or WAR...who knows.

I tried gametap for a month recently, and I love it for it's easy emulation capabilities, but guys....honestly...it's Windows gaming section is total fucking garbage. I believe it's due to the nature of streaming assets. I found only about 1 of every 10 windows games work properly. I was testing countless games I already own and finding a ton of issues that Gametap introduces to the titles. The most common issues were background music skipping, short looping, or just plain muting. Other issues involved major mouse lag, settings not saving, or games just plain not starting up. It was completely shameful.

I've had a Gametap subscription for the past few months (probably since April) and had none of the issues you speak of. I play Windows games almost exclusively and haven't had any problems, sans when I've had to reinstall Gametap to a different HDD and lost my saves.

FAIL.

Newer Windows titles rune great for me, Deus Ex and American McGee's Scrapland ran flawlessly as did Second Sight. It is not gametap's fault that emulating windows in windows XP and Vista is utter and total shit. It is a huge problem with windows. The real sucker punch is that OS X runs windows 98, 95, and 3.11 emulation perfectly(nearly) while XP does such a horrible job.

Only game I've had major problems with were some of the FMV sequences in Wing Commander 4. Beyond that the service has been pretty much flawless for me.

Tucked away at the bottom of a Codemasters press release comes the disappointing news that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty won't make its scheduled November 2007 release date. The game's now been pushed back to early next year.
