Bah, I wasn't planning on building a new PC until Jan-Feb. I guess there's enough coming out for the 360 and PS3 this holiday season that I won't miss this for a few months.

The way my finances are looking I don't know if I'll have a Crysis worthy rig by then.
Now that the quad cores have fallen in price NVidia needs to lower the shit out of the 8800.

Amd's stuff should at retail outlets by then. DX10 cards should also be prevalent. Good news all around then.

Money currently being saved, hopefully that HIS 2900XT will be more in the 350 range by then.

Where has this one ended up re: requiring Vista... I can never remember.
If it does require Vista, then that is going to give me a lot of extra time to upgrade - I see absolutely no reason to go to Vista now.

The 8800s destroy that card, it can't even handle some games from last year. I'm curious as to why you're so set on it.

I really resent Microsoft forcing us to get Vista for DX10.
They should sell products we want instead of forcing us to buy them.
Why not just sell DX10 for XP? I'd buy it.
And once Vista is a good product I'll buy that too.

God forbid they act like a business :rolleyes:
Sometimes I wonder if some people forget that we don't live in the Soviet Union. You don't like it? Then use Linux or MacOS. Let your wallet speak.

He offered to buy DX10. That doesn't sound like a Communist to me.
Also, "let your wallet speak" is a retarded argument because it's like taking a vial of piss out of an ocean of piss.

This could be the first PC game in a long time where I find myself CPU-bound. Hope not, I can't afford to upgrade.

The only thing I'm thinking I may want to get is a bit more RAM to add onto my 2Gb that I already have. I'm pretty sure I should be alright, though.

Minimum Specs:
* CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+/Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz;
* GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 / ATI Radeon X800GTO (SM 2.0);
* RAM: 768MB/1GB on Windows Vista;
* HDD: 6GB;
* Internet: 256k+;
* Optical Drive: DVD;
* Software: DirectX 9.0c with Windows XP.
Recommended Specs:
* CPU: Dual-core processor (Athlon X2/Pentium D/Core 2 Duo);
* GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX / ATI Radeon X1800XT (SM3.0) or DirectX10 equivalent;
* RAM: 1.5GB;
* HDD: 6GB;
* Internet: 512k+ (128k+ upstream);
* Optical Drive: DVD;
* Software: DirectX 10 with Windows Vista
At least there is a DX9 render if performance on Vista sucks. I did a lot of surfing on the subject last night and it seems a good majority of people around the tech sites seem still 50/50 split - some report no issues gaming and that driver support has improved, some are still burning effigies of Bill Gates.. I guess we'll all just have to test on our own accord.
I'm ready:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
D975xbx2 4gb ddr2 1066
BFG Geforce 8800Ultra OC
WD Raptor's @ 10k rpm - Sata Raid 0
SB X-Fi

Those specs seem to be fansite speculation rather than anything official, though I'm sure they're not far off.

As with most games currently out - that puts me right in the middle.
(AMD X2 4600+ OC'd, Geforce 6800GT OC'd, 2 gigs of ram.
I'm very surprised to see that the recommended only shows a 7800GTX. I was expecting a DX10 high end card (8800GTS 320, or ATI 2900XT or similar).
Only 6 gigs too - that's nice. My current machine might actually be able to run it; as my upgrade has been delayed for another month or so.
Actually; i think these specs are less than bioshock's. I just want to see the UT3 specs.

He didn't do that either, Mr Armchair Capitalist.
A whole THREE rolleyes. That makes your argument 3 TIMES as poignant!

Because on tests involving DX 10 editions of games like Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes, only the 8800GTX and Ultra Perform better. ATI has superior overclocking utilities. I am running a Crossfire motherboard, and ATI has shown superior Multi GPU performance. And NvIdia's driver support in Vista has been very suspect.

Seconded. Anyone that has even paid a minimum amount of attention would know this. This is exactly the reason I plan to purchase a ATI Gemini card.

How is that "insulting" Microsoft? He's saying he resents them doing something. I see you like to dish out rhetoric but get pissy when someone with a better command of English calls you on your bullshit.

This is not really the place or the time for such a debate or discussion. I forgot to say, WOOHOO go Frankfurt.

Agreed. I've reported his post and will say no more about it. Frankly I'm saddened that a pink resorts to that kind of vulgarity.

So get a GTX?
ATI has superior overclocking utilities.
Not heard of Coolbits? Install, click the auto-overclock-as-much-as-possible button. Simple. Ergo superior.

Enjoy your leafblowers. Jesus, just ONE of those monstrosities sounds like a shuttle launch. Then there's the off-the-chart power reqs...
And NvIdia's driver support in Vista has been very suspect.
They always plan ahead to the next big game. There'll be a "Crysis release" of Forceware just before release date.

I thought you were referring to that "he doesn't like what Microsoft is doing so he's a commie" stuff. Debating the hardware needed to run the game is on-topic, I think.

By this time last year reviewers were getting X1950 and 7950 cards. With ATI just releasing their card, I would not be surprised if the second gen cards lapsed until the new year.

I don't expect to see the 2nd Gen DX10 cards (IE Geforce 9000s) until next year. We may see them released this year but that seems somewhat unnecessary for Nvidia to have to do right now when they could just be further refining the design of their next generation of cards.

I'll be sticking with NVidia's cards until ATI proves they have superior cards. And I likE NVidia's 3rd party overclocking/tweaking utilities better than ATI's. Plus NVidia makes tons of drivers, and using tweaksrus.com gets some good IQ boosts through hand-picked drivers.

I did know so thing...just because people are free to say what they want doesnt make it valid.
Criticism is itself a form of expression.
