Possession will provide a an ambitious mix of strategy and all-out gore-splattered action and give players the chance to do what they’ve always wanted to do in a survival horror game – control the zombies and wreak havoc instead of just cowering in the corner. There’ll be no more creeping about in the shadows, no more conserving ammo – Blitz are finally letting people take control of the carnage! Possession will also feature innovative online multiplayer modes featuring Blitz's new 1-versus-many gameplay mechanic that will allow a single third-person player to take on multiple first-person enemies.

Aren't next-gen screens supposed to look better than this?

These are probably some of the most underwhelming screenshots of any next gen game I've seen.

Although I hear they don't have a publisher yet and they are aiming for 2007 -- by that time they game could look quite different.

Guess we wait and see -- certainly nothing to get excited about graphically, at this point.

Two things:

#1 A talented art team is extremely hard to put together.
#1a Especially character-art (because characters are more detailed, the eye is more critical)
#2 Bad art in next gen games always looks better in motion than in screenshots (because of burly lighting).
#2a this can be ruined if the animation team is not talented.

addendum: Pretty much you can expect EITHER detail OR scale. It seems to me they chose scale (lots of characters animating on screen) over detail (one extremely high-quality character hiding behind a rock) This addendum can be trumped by an extremely clever team and great engineering.

Only when they're prerendered.

Yeah sometimes when you have a small time dev, they HAVE to sacrafice graphics for the game they have in mind to create. They don't get all the power and tools they want.

art is only as good as the team making it, tech can add new potential but that's all, in fact better tech means you need even better artists to raise the bar and meet that added potential.

Also if I had to guess I'd say these screens were released way before the art team would have liked, that happens all the time when marketing gets triggerhappy.

I am Sooooooooo looking forward to the next gen titles.

They all look so interesting and innovative! I'm glad they aren't the same old-stuff we've been playing with new textures and higher-resolution. I'm glad they really push the creative boundaries of games into bold new directions utilizing the immense power of the machines to create new play experiences.

But isn't another reason why the game looks this way is because of all the onscreen characters?

The interesting thing to me is that they're claiming it's for Rev too. Does this mean Nintendo finally sent out devkits? Or do they just "plan on" porting it there too when they get more info?
Interesting too that it will be for all consoles when some people are screaming at how underpowered and inferior to the other too the Rev will be.

Underwhelming. If anything, it shows exactly what this thread is surmising - that you shouldn't judge the artwork from early screenshots. Check out the stretchy/misplaced textures. Normal-mapping is really cool, but gotta line up those UVs, guys...

Now, how 'bout some gameplay footage?

Edit: um. I may have missed the sarcasm. Sorry, Reanimated.

I believe that this (http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/747/747891/imgs_1.html) is the only next-gen game that I am really looking forward too. It looks gorgeous and is being developed by an well established and honored studio: Epic Games.

Uh...blech.
These screen shots are totally unimpressive.

What good is high-resolution if it is filled with unimpressive models and scenery? Sure, the textures are high-quality but it makes everything look so faley-fakey in an 'i'm trying to look photo-real but failing 150%' kinda way.

Hmm. Next gen isn't impressing me at all.

I've never ever been playing a survival horror game and wished i could play the braindead slowmoving zombie with no weapons. Ever.

Aw, come on. Admit the concept of an undead army at your disposal roaming the streets tirelessy eating innocents tickles you a little bit. No? Me neither. Personally, I found that Whatever-was-its-name for the Xbox360 to look a whole lot more interesting. You know, the one with the enormous amount of enemies onscreen at once, where you played that one reporter, roaming around in a mall. Dead Rising or something. Looked much cooler than this anyway.

Must say Gears of War looks ace too.

Well despite the fact that no one in this thread seems remotely interested in the idea of commanding your own zombie army, isn't that the whole point of that Stubb's the Zombie game for Xbox/PC? I think that looks like it might turn out ok.

http://media.xbox.ign.com/media/711/711834/imgs_1.html?ui=gamefinder_screenshots

But anyway, my point is that this Possession game needs to put out something impressive seeing as the gameplay concepts seem to be pretty similar to this Stubbs game. And of course, I base that on very little information.
