The character design reminds me of Tintin.

Holy Crap! That game looks sureal. I'm officially excited about it. Holy Crap!
Is this PC or next gen? I can't remember EVER seeing a cel-shaded pc game. (no, there have been some indie ones). And a next gen game being cel-shaded just seems counter-productive. Whoops, I've gotta keep reminding myself that hires graphics and draw distances don't make a game good (farcry).
Holy Crap!

May I be the first to say: FINALLY.

XIII, although that was also out for the consoles (possibly all 3, not sure).
Looks like GTA cel-shaded
Just what I thought. In some of the screenshots, IMO you could leave off the "cel-shaded" and it would still fit. :)

It's not centered around cars though... looks more like a crazy sort of Freedom Fighters to me.
Oh, wait. You probably thought Freedom Fighters was a GTA ripoff too, right?

American McGee works sooo slow, and promises sooo much that often times I think of his games in the same context as Black & White and Fable. I mean, they all range around the same quality, with huge levels of hype surrounding them.
I would love to play "Oz" but after about five years now I have my doubts about that game ever coming out.

Didn't OZ get cancelled?
And as to the quote of "a number of cult classics" what ones would those be? The only thing I can think of that he has done is Alice and Scrapland. The latter of which did poorly did it not?

Not to nitpick but the game isn't cel shaded. Instead they used flat looking textures and simple lighting models. How do I know this? The lead artist was talking about it on a web art forum we both visit. (plus if it were cel-shaded you'd usually see a border around the characters in black)

I have to agree with an above post. This guy isn't even close to being a "cult status" icon, and I've never heard of either of his two games being called that. He puts his name in front of titles in a vain attempt at becoming famous, which would work if you are someone like John Carpenter, but doesn't really fly when your only claim to fame is basically being a mouthpiece for id during the latter Doom years.
If he can put out some great games, more power to him, but right now his titles scream "I'm at attention whore! Look at my name!" rather than "this is going to be good!".

People like Alice because it's dark and whatnot
and I admit to loving the game as is: a simple straight foward game with an interesting premise.
If people here want their gaming buck here's a suggestion.
in many Futureshops (canada) they sell Alice and Undying together.
both are great!

this is what Ken actually said about Bad Day LA
for anyone that's interested... this is the game i'm currently art directing. the art style is based on a pair of artists known collectively as kozyndan, you can see their work here. we decided not to go with a cell-shader, instead drawing fake pencil lines on all the textures. which has been quite a headache.
in a thread here (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=36653&highlight=game+art)
American can put his name in front of his games because they all have distinctive art, something most developers dont think much of. It's all about the worlds he makes. Few developers make games with such great personalities.
Alice sold 1 mil, wich is pretty good since it's a PC game. They are also moving foward with the movie.

I always thought he could be his name in front of games because it sounds like a wierd name.. I mean the fella is named American...
If his name was Joe Smith it wouldn't be very impressive.

I lost interest in this after that interview that was posted with American a few months ago. It seemed like a good concept until he pointed out how bloody heavy handed and laboured the "satire" was. The military type constantly quiping Bush lines which is hilarity to the power of a million.
Swift had nothing on this.
Oh, and the edge, the edge.. "This baby smelly like a dirty butt plug!" so sharp it could cut the wiiiiiind.

Yeah, some developer care about the art, like American McGee, others actuall care about making a game, you know, with gameplay, the thing we play games for rather than watch movies?
Even Alice, as much as I enjoyed that game, didn't had much in that direction. Linear boring levels. That trick worked once. Other then Alice, except for boasting, I didn't see much from American McGee.
Maybe Bad Day LA will prove me wrong. But my money on it sucking. Having interesting art and story, but no interesting gameplay.
