Shacknews has posted some fantastic storyline and artwork (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/37658) from Epic's upcoming Xbox 360 title, Gears of War.

Learn about Sera, the planet that houses this conflict; Emergence Day, the event where the creatures arose from within the Earth; and Marcus Fenix, the hardened prisoner that players will control. This is everything you wanted to know about Gears of War presented with breathtaking artwork by the team at Epic Games and described in detail by Cliff Bleszinski, Jerry O'Flaherty, and Eric Nylund.

Dammit, just beat me to it.

This looks great though. I really like the style, it's very remeniscent of the artwork found in the old Games Workshop Warhammer 40k rule books.

True.. very Warhammer 40K style... but actually most Epic stuff has this. I wonder if some of the artists used to work for GW.

looks good, I think the style on the armour, looks better than 40k. Not as clunky as 40k.

THe artwork really got me more interested in this game :)

man...if all those shots are in game...the detail on the skin and metal is amazing.

Damn, this this looks so good every time I see it. I've had a hard time getting excited for any next-gen games except for this one. I'm really looking forward to seeing if the gameplay is as good as the graphics.

This game doesnt just look like a hypy launch title to make people buy the xbox, it looks as though it will actually be incredible.

While the artwork is clearly extremely impressive, am I the only one that didn't see anything interesting beyond that? I’ve no doubt it’ll be a solid title and well marketed, and may end up truly great, but what I’ve seen so far shows clearly high production values and little heart. Maybe I’ve missed something though.

I see quite the opposite in the wonderful writing by the creator. There are some powerful words in that little preview alone, I cant wait to see what he does with the story/dialogue.

Impressive. I'd like more backstory though. What is this place, "Sera"? Is it a planet? How'd humanity get there? Why? When?

I'm sure it'll play just like most FPS on the XBox. The visual are quite amazing however.

No it will not. According to every preview, the game is very tactical in nature, and cover is very mandatory if you plan to stay alive. Apparently, the closest thing gameplay wise is Kill Switch. Also, the game is played from a third person perspective.

Anyways, this game is close to the top of my most wanted list, at least for next gen. Oblivion is what will make me buy a 360 early, but it is games like this hat will keep me around.

Agreed. Technically impressive, but lacking in true creativity. 'Destroyed Beauty' as a high concept is okay, but the execution is not there. And the political allegory appears cliched and sterile.

First time the screenshots was released, I thought this would just be another visually stunning fps where mindless zombies just kills everybody. Incorporating an original storyline, setting and other characters wouldn't make this game feel like another Doom 3 run-through.

I prefer First Person Shooters over 3rd person.

Hey, Eric Nylund (the guy who wrote the Halo books First Strike and The Fall Of Reach) is credited with some of the writing, he's pretty good.

HL2 had good writing thanks to Laidlaw.

This isn't good writing at all.

Signal To Noise is pretty good. Had some great ideas and did very clever things with metaphor and communication. A Signal Shattered is alright, but not as good. He could do a good job, I suppose.

The Halo books that he wrote were great.
