Server Moving Day!

As you may have read over on www.bapenguin.com (http://www.bapenguin.com) we had a "forced" server move -- our old server developed an oddball problem and while our host was busy not working on the problem, I have been busy moving us to the much promised new server.

(This is where your donation money (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/payments.php) is going!)

The forums are online today as a test before we reinstall the front page.

I'm sure you will find some broken artwork and other weirdness today, but I thought we would put the page back online tonight to let everyone know we are busy working on things 'behind the scenes'.

Oh yes! I could have just backed up the old page and restored it in a few minutes -- instead we are upgrading all our forum and front end software to the most recent versions.

Thus, the downtime today.

(I spent yesterday fighting with our old host until I realized that wacking my balls with a beer bottle until I puked would be a more productive use of my time.)

Do I need this kind of abuse? I fixed it, the code for the quickreply button was just a tiny bit different in the new versions and so it didn't show up any more.

The quickreply button seems to be broken and it may be a while before I can get it working again. It isn't an easy fix. Fixing it may mean manually editing the "new" post template until it looks like our old template. Or, I could just remove the "quickreply" button totally since all it does is take you to the bottom of the page.

This color is hilarious, what I shock when I opened the site.

No, but removing the border will be one of the more subtle (and difficult) things I'll have to fix over the next few days. Global color settings are easy... changing things for just the "post" part of a forum isn't that easy.

Yes, they are gone. Once I moved the database to the new server I had to upgrade the database to match the version of our software that we are using.

It wasn't a difficult task, but it was a little tricky at times.

I am glad that the entire post shows up in the feed. Make it easier to use reader software.

Yeah, that's a nice feature. It's just kind of useless if the feed is an hour old. Might as well just refresh the main page every so often at that rate. :P

Some users are currently having problems viewing pages (front page, forums, threads), getting the error message:Wraith, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
I'm able to post a new message, or reply to a thread, but only if I'm logged out before loading the forum/thread and hitting New Thread/Reply, and then logging in when prompted. Even after posting/replying, I can't view the thread until logging out again.

Naw, it was a problem with permissions not getting set correctly when I moved all our frequent posters to a new user group.

I "Promoted" all our regular yellow posters (people who visit all the time) and the promotion didn't have the right permissions.
