Sorry, kids, this is for our overseas PALs only.

Take it away, Game Spot (http://au.gamespot.com/news/6175392.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;3).

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 value pack will be coming to Australia on August 2 for A$999 ($879). The announcement came at a PlayStation Australia media event held in Sydney last night.

The starter pack contains a 60GB PlayStation 3 console, two Sixaxis controllers, Resistance: Fall of Man, and MotorStorm--both of which have sold over a million units globally. No announcement about whether the 80GB PlayStation 3 will make it to Australia was made.

The PS3 value pack is only being released in Sony's PAL territories, with US consumers instead getting a price drop on the existing 60GB PS3s to $499. US consumers will also soon be able to purchase the 80GB model--which comes bundled with MotorStorm--for $599.

... why?
I mean... why bother with a bundle like that? So damned expensive.
Lame.

The prices add up to less.

$500 system + $60 + $60 + $50 is less than $879.

Try again!

Don't forget the second controller and the fact that this is in Australia where every purchase comes with a free ass-raping.

It's the same price. It was already cost a cool grand here (-$1 and apparently turning a profit) they are just throwing in some bonuses.

Before this:
PS3- $1000
Resistance- $120
Motorstorm- $120
Sixaxis- $70
-------
Total- $1310 (at least RRP. Of course only a chump'd pay full price for all that and not scout out the sales. Of course if you want to pay full price there's always EB or GAME.)

{edit: actually I think a Sixaxis (I fell stupid every time I write that) costs a bit more than that, but you get the gist.}

So it's a pretty good bundle for the same price. But it's still a grand.

Toys R Us were doing the same\awfully similar deal already...well before this "value pack" at about $80 less. Sure, it had one controller, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost $80AU.

I think K-Mart was actually doing it too...this was like...a month after launch.

Try again, Sony!

Oh, when you put it that way, that's a damn good deal (I mean, compared to the normal price).
Still, I feel for you guys. You always seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to gaming.

It helps if you actually read the article. It's in Australia. Friggin' retard...

With the Aussie dollar at 88 US cents, we're still getting thoroughly raped on every console.

What, you don't have a spare thousand just lying around gathering dust?

They have to get rid of their massive PAL stock of those games somehow, and Making the PAL territories buy the old controller before rumble hits the world is another way to dump old items.

I'm still not getting one.

I should be able to still get $1000 for it.

Not exactly. I do have credit channels open to me though.

The price has never been an issue for me - it's the system itself.

If it was $500 AU - it still wouldn't be worth buying at this stage (to play games anyway - and even with an 81cm HD LCD screen, I have no desire to watch HD/BR discs) to me. Motorstorm and Resistance look OK, but really not system sellers to me.

Once again - I maintain my stance that if PES/WE2008 (Pro Evo/Winning Eleven) is significantly better on the PS3 than the 360 - I'd buy one yesterday.

I'd keep the import. It's got proper BC hardware, and it's not as if you'd have trouble getting the games for it...

We already have that bundle for sale here in Norway. Sounds like Australia is a bit behind.

Man that really sucks that the prices are so high there :(

I find it really difficult to believe that it is all shipping costs inflating the price.

What are the 360 bundles like?
How much would it cost for a 360 Elite, an extra controller, GoW and Forza 2?

Same question regarding the Wii for that matter... how much is it?

We've had similar bundles for ages. It's just now it's an 'official' bundle.

Still a rip-off, IMHO.

It's not shipping costs. Australia is actually quite near where the consoles are manufactured.
You can order from overseas much, much cheaper. (Even after you pay the shipping, etc. Plus you get a better console.)

The PAL Elite hasn't been released yet. 360 prices are highly variable, depending on where, when and what you buy.
Seriously, it's crazy. A game will be $120 one week, and on special for $40 the next. The RRP is pretty much ignored.
I got a Core for $379 and later picked up a 120GB HDD for $200.
Extra controller is $69, GoW is on special for $50.
Premium bundle is $537 in the JB catalog.

Same question regarding the Wii for that matter... how much is it?
$399

And to think... Here in New Zealand we still pay NZ $1200 for the 60gb machine.

That, btw, is $955 USD.

Wow that would pretty much keep me from buying anything in Australia. I bet importing is frowned apon but how can you even justify 1000$ video game purchase. Least of all 120$ games. I wouldn't have any money to spend on games if they cost that dman much.
