Here are 10 things you may or may not know about Lost Odyssey

10. The main character has a back story of over 1000 years. This will be unveiled via 2 methods. Cut scenes and...
9. Mini Stories Each section in the character's back story is an unlockable and optional playable mini RPG or Interactive Story.
8. The cut scenes are done in-engine
7. The player can have a party size of up to 5 characters out of a total of 9 possible.
6. Even though the game is turn based, there is a real time element added to create tension in the battles. This involves a timing mini game of sorts.
5. Certain battles may involve using the environment to your advantage.
4. Around 40-50 hours of gameplay
3. The game is going to be localized into 9 different languages. English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, simplified Chinese, Italian, Spanish, French and German.
2. The main character isn't always part of the game. At least, this was evident by the cut scene that was on display.
1. The game is powered by Unreal 3 Engine and features a few different things for a traditional Japanese RPG. For instance, you are able to look around, and zoom in on different objects while walking through the game world. This is quite different than the usual fixed perspective of traditional JRPGs.

You can listen to an audio version of the closed doors demo right here. (http://www.evilavatar.com/e3/pods/LostOdyssey.mp3) You can also find it streaming here (http://odeo.com/audio/14883763/view) via Odeo.

Yeah, good work on the lists, Bap. It gives EvAv and your stories a unique hook that works well and makes for easy reading.

Huh, I was not aware that this game was an RPG. I guess I haven't really been following it all that much though.

I like that you can choose to play through bits of backstory if you want!

That's what I figured. Everywhere else is writing up previews, and most likely you've read them. So I just tried to pull out some high points and possibly little known facts for quick digestion.

The game is looking much better than it did previously. It is as close as you're going to get to an FF-esque experience on a next-gen console this year, imho.

It is on my short list of buy day one, regardless of reviews, titles.

I wasn't interested in this game at all until I downloaded the recent Xbox Live Marketplace trailer. Now I'm quivering with anticipation. Excellent list Bap. I had no idea all those groovy cutscenes were done in real-time!

I so want this game. Now only make it suitable for SD please, cause Blue Dragon was on the edge of unreadable item screens and too much white on screen.

11. Nobuo Uematsu does the soundtrack

WIN!

I'm confused though, the main character and supposedly some (if not all) party members are immortal and do not die of old age or through battle, does that mean no "cura" or "phoenix downs"?

Sounds amazing. Its like an old school rpg with sprinkles of innovation.

Forum trolling signing in to say that I also really like the lists. With this, and the marketplace video I've watched I'm kind of interested in seeing this RPG (and Eternal Sonata). The reviews will still have to be amazing to get me to play an RPG, though.

This game sounds great! I don't know if it will be a day one purchase for me, but I do intend to own it at some point. :)

Yep. That's the deal. Right on Bap. Congrats.

The cut scenes being done in engine must be a new thing because a couple of older HD trailers at gametrailers.com show cut scenes which simply can't be done in-engine. They're just too damn good.

Welcome to Evil Avatar!

I remember seeing an older video in which the sky opens up with lava on a battlefield of strange armored troops. It looked far too good to be real-time IMHO. Maybe they've managed to trick us both with the sheer awesomeness of their in-game engine? I suspect not. After watching the E3 2007 video I see that there are in-engine cutscenes, but there are also pre-rendered sequences edited in there.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of cutscenes are in-engine, but there will be exceptions. I've also read that the transition between pre-rendered and in-game is seamless.

If you listen to the audio interview he does go into a little more detail. He basically says that some of the bigger explosions and destructive environment is pre-rendered, but otherwise it's in engine.

Wow, so that video where the main characters is killing all those guys with big helmets is in-engine? Holy crap?!

I think they got rid of the CGI cut scenes. I remember last time they were shooting to make the CGI blend in with the real time. Now it's all real time. I have to say it still looks damn fine. This here is the JRPG I'm waiting for, cause I don't have a PS3. Since I don't have a ps3 and all. ;)

I never thought to tell you way to go since I figured you knew you were doing a good job, but way to go ba. I like the Top Ten list. Hell, I would probably take a negative 5 but then you'd be trolling.

Boooooo... All the other "10 Things" threads got a front page picture. Give LO some respect dammit.
