In the "about time" department (it's been a year already), the Xbox Live Arcade title Texas Hold'em will finally get LIVE Vision support. It was originally supposed to come with the camera support, even to the point of screenshots of it being used in-game on the box for the LIVE Vision cam. Today's update also includes a number of other features.
From Major Nelson (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/07/12/texas-hold-em-update.aspx):
The free update will introduce several significant features, bug fixes and updates based on user feedback, including Xbox LIVE Vision Camera support (player bankrolls will not be reset with this update).
Other features of the update include the following:
· Improved usability such as the addition of Custom Match Lists, which allows gamers to view and select which available Custom Match game they would like to join.
· Improved rich presence in the game, allowing players to not only see what their friends are up to, but also if they just won that big pot!
· Improved matchmaking and user results.
· Scoring and screens are more readable than before.

Hmmm, I may actually pick up the camera now. Nice to see they're still doing bug fixes to this too.

Yeah, I'd pretty much just written it off. Another odd thing is that on the Live Vision box (on the back) was a screenshot of it being used while playing chess. Kept wondering when that would hit the arcade and I finally see it again during E3.
Tried it when it was just released and everyone went All In all the bloody time, kinda ruined it for me.

Now if they could only get rid of the fuckheads who get in a game and put themselves in away status. The game just folds away every hand they drop so you eventually end up taking 2nd place in the tournament. Pisses me off bad. Just kick the people after 3 hands like yo udo with people who don't play.

Does it allow you to filter out the jackasses that constantly go all-in before the flop regardless of what they are holding?
Question: Do you have to have a camera yourself to see the video someone else is broadcasting? Knowing MS, I'd say "yes" but this is Xbox and it alway surprises me what the 360 team allows.

Nope. Hell, you can even have a video chat as long as at least ONE person chatting has the camera.

It would be really nice to get a game going with fellow EvAv folks. I think a good table with all of you would get rid of the bad tastes of people going all in all the time.

Excellent idea.
Indeed ... plus we could finally put those nasty fallacious rumours to rest. :p
And to prove there is gender equality on EvAv, the usual hotties could show us their hooters! :D

They just need to give us a mode where we play with MS points. You'd never see that idiocy in that particular mode.
But yeah, that is why I stopped playing it after the second day.
...and I hate to burst peoples' bubble but it was EvAv people who were going all in every hand.
Basically, if we're going to do something like this, we have to make one concrete rule.
A. You start with X amount of money.
B. If you lose all of it, you're done, game over, see you on the next poker night.
err, maybe that is two rules? whatever. :)

Cool. I’m actually not that excited by the Cam support (even though I have one). I’m more excited by the (possibly) improved match-making. I love poker. I play almost every week with friends. Hold’em on Live seemed like a great idea last year, and I played it a lot at first, but I hated that everyone expected you to play super loose. Notice that I didn’t say I hated how everyone played super loose. How you play doesn’t matter to me. In fact, I love it when you play poorly. More money for me. But I started getting snide comments from people when I didn’t play a majority of hands. I even had one person leave me negative feedback for “unsportsman-like conduct,” which greatly offended me at the time as I try really hard to be nice and fun to play with. Oh well. I wonder if being able to see people will make the games more civil?

Hey I'm down for whatever and whenever as long as we can get a group together for a full table. I enjoy taking everyone's money! :D

Do you mean gamerscore points or the points you buy? Playing with points you buy would be illegal in some states (like mine), but playing with gamerscore points sounds like a really cool idea--even if you could only play with the 200 gamerscore points that you can earn from an XBLA title.
Heck, get rid of the lame achievements that you can currently get from Hold'em. Award me 1 gamerscore point every time I get 1st place in a tournament, and take away 1 point every time I get 3rd place or worse. Match me with people who have a similar number of points. I would so be into that.

yeah, I'm aware of the illegalities involved. Doesn't make me not want it, though. :p
If they could do something like that the game would shoot to the top of the live! standings and probably stay there forever.
Woo hoo. This headline should really say "MS ENDORSES STRIP POKER!!!" I'll probably see more of the stuff that I've seen so far in 'after hours' UNO.

Why on earth should I ever play any form of electronic poker that's not pokerstars or fulltilt? And why should I ever do it NOT for money?
This doesn't make sense for me.
