The University of Bradford, University of Hull and Sheffield Hallam University have teamed up with game developers Rockstar, Team 17 and Sumo Digital to create the Game Republic Academy. (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=167969)
The Game Republic Academy will aid students interested in game development by providing financial sponsorship and summer employment at major game developers. In addition, the creation of the academy has allowed for the creation of new university programs, such as the University of Bradford's AI for Games Masters degree.
Team 17 (http://www.team17.com/) are the guys behind Worms and Lemmings while Sumo Digital (http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?type=company&mode=75165) have made Virtua Tennis: World Tour (PSP), Outrun 2 (XB) and TOCA Race Driver 2 (PSP). I believe we all are familiar with Rockstar.
Very cool development!

Saying Team 17 is behind Lemmings is a bit misleading. Sure, they did the recent PSP port, but the rest have been developed by DMA, which is now Rockstar North.
Also, I'd assume that the particular Rockstar studio involved in this little venture is Rockstar Leeds, given the locations of the other parties involved.
Edit: Apologies for being overly picky. :)

As yet unexplained by science, it is a fact that I am always in favor of more Worms games. Except for that 3D one, which is a bastardization of all that is great about Worms.
I belive my fascination started as a young boy in highschool with a 2D tank game that utilized angle and windspeed as the only two factors in attacking rival tanks and then graduated in college to a fantastic piece of shareware: Scorched Earth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorched_Earth_(computer_game)).
I am kind of surprised at this, given the almost xenophobic nature toward young inexperienced talent with game dev related degrees the UK game industry is. I really hope the UK follows more in suit of the US and Canada in this regard because they are far better at dealing with new talent.
Which is funny now that i think about it, because it wasnt that many years ago they were shouting about how they need people with game related education.

I remember playing a game almost identical to that only on the Amiga. I dont think it was called Scorched Earth though. Can't remember what it was called.
