Right now the specifics on Silent Hill 5 are as scant as sanity in that spooky town but GameSpot managed to put up the basics. (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6174453.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6174453)

Currently set for a 2008 release, the game will follow a veteran who returns to his hometown to search for his brother who has mysteriously vanished. As is often the case in Silent Hill games, his quest leads him to the titular ghost town, where eeriness is in full effect.
Silent Hill 5 is slated for PS3 and 360 in 2008.

I hope it's a throwback to SH2 and not like SH4.

I'm down with this. And at least I don't have to buy a PS3 right away either.

Agreed. SH2 was definitely the peak for the series. Atmosphere and a feeling of dread were just about perfect.

I love the Silent Hill series - one of my favorites out there. And I agree that I hope it's skewed more towards the 2nd than it is the 4th, though I actually had a really good time with the 3rd. A mix of 2 and 3 would leave me a happy ghost hunter.

Well first of all, SH2 was a great game but I really think SH3 was the best so far in the series. Also, SH5 has you actually going to Silent Hill again and not stuck in some silly room. What is really interesting is that you're not some girl or dad looking for his kid, but a war veteran. I'm curious about how he'll handle the weapons in the game.

I dunno why everyone hates on SH4 so much. I really enjoyed it. The first person perspective in the apartment was a nice change of pace and the rest of the game was very similar to other Silent Hill games. While I agree that SH2 and SH3 were the best of the serious, SH4 wasn't that bad. Of course I'm a HUGE fan of Silent Hill and other survival horror games and I will always buy every Resident Evil and Silent Hill game that comes out. :D

Silent Hill 4 wasn't even a Silent Hill game when it was first being developed, they just wanted a creepy game in "Room 302". I guess they just thought interesting concept/creepy game + popular franchise would help it out.

I'm kind of like carnage11, buying everying Res Evil and SH out there (though add in Fatal Frame for me). I'll be honest and say I never really played through all of SH4 since the controls just never seemed right, but it did seem like a cool idea.

I'll probably be getting SH5 for the 360 for the achievements. Oh, and SH: Origins looks neat. Here's to hoping the load times on it don't suck..

Random aside: Did anyone else think 1408 seemed like a better rendition of Silent Hill than the actual Silent Hill movie?

Funny, I told that to my friend while watching the movie.

As long as the soundtrack still kicks ass and they add more interactivity with the environment, I'll be happy.

war veteran.

Most Jacob's Laddery SH yet? Cool.

I dunno why everyone hates on SH4 so much.
I don't think it is hate, just that most don't think it was nearly as good as 1,2 & 3, and had precious little to do with Silent Hill in general. I think it was OK. It had a decent story (though poorly told, imho) and a few good scares and creepy events.

DUDE! I WANT!

I'm glad to see that SH5 is multi-platform. Whew, one less reason to buy a PS3. :) I hope SH5 is nothing like SH4. SH4 was a terd.

Yes! Finally. I've been waiting for this after the disappointment with 4. I wanted to like it, I did love some of the character design, but the inventory implementation actually kept me from finishing the game. Drove me crazy.

Also, now I definitely have to see 1408 if at two people say it's Silent Hill-esque.

(trivia time: My SH geekdom hasn't extended to wall scrolls yet, but I do own the boots she wore throughout the movie, the Fluevog Rosabelles. /complete nerd.)

SH 2 was definitely my favorite. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that Pyramid Head made it difficult to sleep at night (although SH 3's scene with the blood dripping into the bucket had a similar result).

It's being developed by what's left of The Collective (all the people from their good games have long since left), so I don't really have high hopes for this one.

SH4 to me was a major, MAJOR dissapointment. I got my hands on the soundtrack before I got the game, and was super hyped... I think I played about 1-2 hours of the game. Combat felt weird, story was good, but some of the locations just didn't make any sense. Not even in a SH context.

You mean the dark outline of a wall scroll on a dark background... yeah I can see Maria real well. ;)

Me too. I stuck with the game until i got about 3/4ths of the way through. By then I was totally sick of Walter and having to babysit Eileen. It made me mad, cause I really grew to like Eileen through out the first half of the game. Only seeing her through the wall and door. I ran to save her... then I had to babysit her and she acted like a retarded ward... really soured things fast. That and I absolutely detested the ghosts you couldn't kill and the stupid inventory system with the box in the room.
