A small startup studio, Klei Entertainment (http://www.kleientertainment.com), is trying to get as much feedback as possible on their new game: Eets.

Described by most as "Lemmings meets The Incredible Machine," Eets is a level-based strategy game where the player manipulates the character Eet's emotions and behaviors through the use of food and other props to solve a puzzle.

You can download the preview at http://www.eetsgame.com

Thanks!

And like a bolt from the blue, the Live 8 hunger/genocide debate is solved with a new game from a scrappy independant publisher.

Seriously, if you can't appreciate the awesomeness of this being posted after the Live 8 story, I have no patience for you.

Tycho might as well just copy/paste all his newsposts to this site, huh?

yeah it certainly sucks that the websites you visit don't collaborate based on your viewing habits and eliminate the need for you to see the same link twice, thus saving you the precious time it takes to post that you've already seen it.

It was an user-submitted item; I approved it. I didn't know it was on penny.

Klei is trying to get as much feedback as possible, so far they're +1 new audience, me.

I'd love to know when "Described by Tycho..." became "Described by most..."

Hmm... only place to download is fileplanet? Could someone post a torrent of this? I don't want to wait a half hour in the queue.

There is also a mirror on eetsgame.com for a direct download. As for the "Described by most" comment, Tycho was one of the people who described it that way, but it was described as such long before :)

Thanks for the approval! We apologize if we stepped on anyone's toes by being linked on both PA and then posting on EvilAvatar. We really are just trying to get as much feedback as possible.

BigFoot, I hope your delicious game catapults you to the upper stratosphere of success and achievement. To help speed you along, I've written the following taglines for your game:

"Eetz: So good, we have no use for "A"s or "S"s."
"Eetz: The most fun you can have with food (excluding chocolate body paint.)"
"Eetz: It's like eating, but with more strategy."

While I'm all for developer-community interaction, don't sweat them. ;)

Oh, and you should definitely use Justin's second slogan.

This game is comical and great, but tends to become unoriginal after a while. Still worth a playthrough.

For the record, I was commenting, not criticizing.

Anyway, I've taken a look at the game, and it's good. Simplistic visuals, but pleasing to the eye. I haven't played it a whole lot yet, but it's very fun so far.

yeah, nice game, the tutorial levels were well done, introducing you to a lot of new elements very effectively. The last few levels, which don't introduce any new elements, seem a little shallow in the puzzle solving area. Overall, a nice concept, very engaging artwork, and a lot of potential for some brain teasing situations that I would like to see fleshed out. Also I had some trouble with stability when alt-tabbing, or getting interrupted by another program. Usually ended in a program crash.

I really enjoyed it, feels a little loose at times, but then so did TIM and I still play that when it's been long enough for me to forget everything.

Interesting thing on the reverse gravity thing, he wouldn't eat it when I put it on the top ledge after he ate two angry ones, bug or feature, don't know.

Got stuck on the dark one in the proper puzzles, I'm missing something I'm sure :p

EDIT: Got it, got so wrapped up fiddling with the lights I forgot the whale was mine rather then part of the scenery.

Ok I downloaded the demo yesterday and played a few rounds. I found it to be fun, but I had some issues with the learning curve which while somewhat frustrating to me could be fatal to a casual gamer.

1.It is never explained that the fez on the cloud can be rotated and it really isn't intuitive that this can be done. The only reason I figured it out is by blindly trying everything possible in a level (like one would do in a point and click adventure game when he gets stucK) until I happened to stick the hat on at a tilt. It really is blind luck that I happened to get this right. I was mere moments from closing the game for good.

2.It's never really clear what the chocolate chips can do and takes a lot of expirimenting to figure this out. In my opinion expirimenting is good in a puzzle game but a player should theoretically be able to look at a level and piece out his whole solution before executing anything. This game requires you to fuck around aimlessly just to get an idea on how to solve a puzzle.

3.I'm stuck on the level where Eets is at the bottom of a gulch with no way of getting out. I can shoot chips at him and there's a little cart with a picture of a bomb on it who's physical properties I can't quite discern. A tutorial on that cart would be quite helpful because I am really stuck.

If you think THAT level's hard.....

Try aiming the fez at the cart and firing at chip at it. It'll roll down the hill into Eets.... Nuff said.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone! There are definitely usability issues that need to be worked out, and the comments we're getting is highlighting the most important ones.

The final game will definitely be much more complex, and yet more usable. The difficulty will come in solving puzzles, and there shouldn't be any difficulty in trying to figure out the game :)

Cheers!
BigFoot.

I think the game is awesome. The levels in the demo were easy, but fun. Half the time I wasn't sure if I solved them the way I was supposed to or not, and I presume part of the fun is going back and seeing if they can be solved another way.
