Disney Online has announced that it is pushing back the release of its Pirates of the Caribbean Online game from summer to fall to allow them to cram in more development time and refinements. The massively online multiplayer game (MMO) is intended to let users live the life off a pirate, have adventures on the high seas, and sail out to meet their destiny.

Although it's been in beta for a while, Disney Online has pushed back the release of its Pirates of the Caribbean MMO game to pack in some additional development.

We talked about this early on in the show last night (http://mouselook.com/podcast/index.php?id=24). And came to the conclusion that Disney feels this would probably sell better when they can promote it with the recent films DVD release. Probably pack in a coupon for it or even just an advert inside the DVD (maybe a 48 hour free trial as well).

I think they will get in that additional development, but I think this is more a marketing move than anything else.

All the extra development time in the world won't save this POS.

I agree it was REALLY bad. Almost childlike.

I heard this conversation between some Disney guys once:

Guy #1 - Dude, did you know that people are paying monthly fees to play video games on the webbertubes?
Guy #2 - We should get in on that!

Dude... there is no reasonable comparison. Auto Assault was a stable game that was unpopular because it wasn't fun. This Pirates game is totally broken. I would compare it to Shadowbane or Horizons, but even they were more solid than this game.

After being in the Beta for a while I do agree that Disney should just let this one die. Even my 9 year old daughter after playing WOW, Dofus, and some other MMOs was unimpressed. ;)
